Rolling restarts to fix 2.1.0 error [Updated]

If you were attempting to play this evening, you may notice your realm vanishing out from under you. That's because Blizzard has been in the process of rolling restarts to fix a serious issue with today's 2.1.0 patch. As of 3:45 PM PST (that's 6:45 PM to you east coasters), restarts began, with an anticipated downtime of 15 minutes for each realm. The problem that caused all this hubbub? The official forums are a bit flakey this evening, but reader SirCasey reports that stacked items taken from mailboxes are vanishing from players inventories -- and I don't know about you, but I can see this resulting in hundreds of gold lost. What to do if you've already lost something? Blizzard poster Hortus says talk to a GM, but makes no promises that they'll be able to restore items.Update: CM Drysc reports at 6:30 PM PDT (9:30 PM EST) that complications from the earlier fix has prevented some realms from coming back online. However, they're working on bringing the remaining realms back online and plan to have all realms back online by 9:00 PM PDT (12:00 AM EST).

I'm just glad I've been more interested in finding updates for my addons today than I was in playing.
Sounds like a lot of people lost some very expensive materials this afternoon...

This patch has been hell for me. I've gotten nearly 4 or 5 evade bugged mobs, horrible lag, and now this???

25 Minutes after the restart, got stuck up on Retrieving character list, then spit back out only to get stuck on Authenticating. This is FANTASTIC.

Heh, I havn't been on my main server at all today. It's now 8:30 eastern and i could see my server the list. I tried to access it all excited like and it just says retrieving character list. So i exit game and come back in, now it just says authenticating. I am having no fun today.

Well, I haven't even been able to log onto Bleeding Hollow all day (whee for upgrades...), and it looks like it may stay that way all night.
Maybe I'll go start an alt on a server that's actually up or something.

*sigh* Fairly certain I was the first person on my server to complete the Epic Flight Form quest and the *&#)!#$ servers had to go down just as I was flying towards my last turn-in following the Raven Lord kill.

Yeah I got on fine after teh restart but now it kicked me out again and i can't get past authenticating now and the forums are down.

Dunno how I would get past phase 2 (linken's boomerang maybe?) but hell, i'd never run out of mana!

I've seen the forum stay busy/overloaded, but i've never seen it be TAKEN down. I think blizzard borked something up pretty bad this time.

My guesses:
1) Shut down to stop the flood of 'what happened to my stuff?' and 'servers down again?' posts.
2) All servers being shutdown including the authentication server to fix a more widespread issue than we even know about.

The forum is a part of the auth system. And it seems like they're having problems with a lot of things at the moment.
Saying you're pissed, or flooding the forums with "omg when's the server going to be fixed" isn't going to help Blizzard at all.
They haven't had a lot of problems recently with patches, most of them have gone smoothly. Even BC on my server was flawless.
Anyway, I'm sure they'll be giving us free play time. So quit getting your panties in bunches.
