Life without working addons
For a certain kind of WoW player -- specifically, the kind that has addons out the wazoo -- the days after a new patch are always days of terror. Which part of my specially-customized setup doesn't work anymore? Where are my chat windows? Why can't I move? Dear God, how do I live?
While this addonpocalypse is somewhat less extensive than the one that destroyed virtually all addons last December, there's still a lot of stuff that's just not working. Wowinterface.com has a nice list of updated 2.1 addons, so if something's not working, you can always check and see if it's there. But not everything is fixed yet.
Personally, most of my AllDeuce UI is intact, but my Autobar and ag_UnitFrames have bitten the dust, and I'm getting a lot more errors. I can live without Autobar, but not having any unit frames is a little wearing, even though I have ArcHUD for the super-important stuff like health and energy. "Can you kick me out of the party because I can't leave?" "Can you open trade? I can't." "Who's the enemy targeting now?" Here's hoping that all the addons will be updated soon!
How many of your addons no longer work? How do you handle post-patch addon confusion?

My ag_UnitFrames works fine for me. Grab the latest release from www.files.wowace.com maybe?
WowAce Updater has helped me out a lot here.

Ace2 FTW... I've been running the WowAce Updater regularly and nothing has been broken yet :d

I had a small problem with SendSelf interfering with sending Mail in game, but prompt use of MacAceUpdater immediately after the patch has left me with nary a glitch. A few log-on errors with bigwigs, and depost box went a little nuts, but everything is pretty perfect. ag_Unitframes and autobar are working pretty damn fine for me.

@ the author: I don't know where you're getting your Ace addons updated from, but I use many of the same ones you claim are broken, and they're working just fine. Sounds like you need to use the Aceupdater!

Thanks for the link to the updater, dudes and dudettes. I had indeed not been using it, due to some problems in the past.

It's not a bad time for a bit of a spring clean. If I have to set everything up again then I might as well see if I can find something better.
NB: Most of my addons were still working, but I had to reset everything because of a verification problem.

The two big ones for me are Autobar and Totemus. Autobar I can live without (except I'm too lazy to make a mount macro), but Totemus is pretty big. Oh, if only Blizz would do a Totem UI...

None are broken actually... Bongos2, x-perl, equip compare, Auctioneer, OmniCC, OneBag... (Hm, didn't check my SCT...).

Cosmos UI has really been slowing down recently, so I took the patch downtime backup and delete my entire Interface and WTF directories and start over. This time I went with Sewell UI, reviewed by WoWInsider recently:
http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/05/07/reader-ui-sewell/
I effing LOVE it! Wow, it's great, sooo much better than the Bliz default UI. It uses Ace2, including ag_UnitFrames, and none of its components are listed as out of date. I also installed Spellbinder, which I can't live without, Auctioneer, and Gatherer. Even though it was originally made for a mage, it works fine with my Hunter. Only problem I've found is that Display Target of Target doesn't work, still trying to figure out what the problem there is. Next step, install AceHUD. (Yes, rewrote all my macro's too, but not a big deal since I know them well by now).

That update list needs an addon to make it alphabetical!
Was Cartographer listed there? I didn't see it.

For whatever reason, all of my bag's actual "slots" are offset from where they should be visually.
I know I'll probably have to delete my WTF folder, because even with all addons disabled I'm still having the problem, it just sucks.
Yeah, I hate patch-day addon woes.

Perfect timing on the OP, at least for me. I was coming to this blog to grab that link to the World of Warcraft UI Updater that was mentioned a little while back.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/wuu
Last night was a nightmare with all my Addons not working at exactly the wrong time.

Census+ is having annoying problems. When it does a scan of all the users now, it keeps popping up the /who social box. Very annoying if you're scanning Auctioneer when it pops up, canceling the Scan. But yeah, most of mine work now. I've been looking around for updates all of the past 2 days when I get a chance.
My only real problem is how often my client freezes and crashes now since 2.1.0(at least a dozen times today alone).

Is anyone else getting a bunch of errors with CT mod? What about Cartographer?
RogueJedi86 May 24th 2007 12:10AM
update CTMod on http://ctmod.net/, and if need be, specifically disable CT_UnitFrames in the addon list.
Cartographer has a working update already. either use the WoWAceUpdater, or go to http://files.wowace.com/

I used WUU yesterday to update my addons and found that cartographer and SWStats weren't working and I also got a few errors. Foundout today, cartographer's transparencey got set to 0 which meant the map was there, just.....transparent. Changed that and downloaded another SWStats and everything seems fine now.
An addon updater is a great thing. WUU seems to be vague about what it is doing so I'll try UI's maybe, although it looks complicated. What I need is one button that says "update my addons and tell me when you are done".
OT but the Blizz auto pet dismiss sucks. It dismisses my hunter cat when I mount my riding cat and I don't want this. Flying mount, great but not riding mount. It also opens my pet window when it calls my pet back.
RogueJedi86 May 24th 2007 12:32AM
That's why I use the WoWAceUpdater for Cartographer.
Stephen Moore May 24th 2007 2:13AM
I updated my ag_UnitFrames but still got a million errors (it wasn't getting on with Grid or Decursive).
I switched to Pitbull, and would strongly recommend it to others too, looks like ag_UF but with a much better config mode!
doobtray May 24th 2007 2:45AM
ag_UnitFrames doesn't work for me as well. I changed to simpleunitframes instead and I personally like that better only because it looks like more part of the game if that makes any sense. I agree with Mr. Moore in that Pitbull is a very nice mod.
Bongos 2 with omni cc does the trick. Mario fx mod still works fine which is key.
Sometimes starting a UI over or just adding a few mods back at a time refreshes your UI with new ideas and views. Although it's taken a little bit of time, I am very happy with my UI as of right now.

If you have trouble with AG_Unitframes: Just delete the ag_unitframes folder in interface/AddOns/ and copy the latest release to this folder again. Just overwriting hadn't worked.
