Dismounting automatically, or on command
Do you guys like the new AutoDismount option built into the interface? There's now an option that you can check or uncheck (in the interface window) that will automatically dismount you from your flying mount whenever you start casting a spell-- and that includes dropping into stealth, shapechanging (for druids-- Hugsy of Thunderhorn tested it for me), and mining and herbing.I used to use an addon called EZDismount a while back that did exactly this, but I eventually ditched it because it seemed like it kicked me off my mount too much. But since the patch, the AutoDismount seems to be working perfectly-- it saved me tons of clicks farming herbs while flying around (and towing my orphan behind-- what can I say, I'm a multitasker). I don't know if Blizzard has theirs set up differently, because I haven't used the old addon in so long, but so far it just seems to work better.
But I do realize that not everybody likes it, and unfortunately, it seems the checkbox only seems to work for flying mounts-- AutoDismount is set on by default for all ground mounts now. If you want to turn it off for all mounts (so that you get an error message, just like before, when you try to cast a spell while mounted), you can simply type this: /console autoDismount 0. That, we're told by Slouken, the UI blue guy, is all you need to type in once, and it's set off for all mounts. I'd assume to turn it back on, you just type /console autoDismount 1. And there's a few helpful dismount macros in that thread as well-- you can use a hotbutton to select a random mount in your inventory, or use a hotbutton to turn on or off AutoDismount (if, for example, you want to use it in battlegrounds, but not in PvE). Interesting stuff. I'll be autodismounting, I'm sure, but with all that info, it's good to know that you have control over when you get on and off your mounts.

Auto dismount on spell is all good, however I was trying to talk to a npc yesterday and accidentally right clicked someone of the the opposite faction (npc was rather crowded). I was auto dismounted and started to attack, being a spellcaster it's very unlikely that i would ever want to dismount to melee, hell it's one of the reasons I'm usually mounted around crowded NPC's to stop myself accidentally attacking. I know i'll be turning this feature off.

I was an avid user of EZDismount, but no more. The Blizzard version is near instant, and works great for herbs, etc. It is also somewhat intelligent, it will not dismount you if you cannot actually perform the action. I.e. Charge for a warrior will not dismount unless you are actually in range.

I used to use EZDismount too, and I'm very happy to have this functionality built in now (so I can get rid of another mod).
The Blizz version is nice because it only requires one click/press to do something. With EZDismount, you had to click once, then it would dismount you, then you clicked again to do what you wanted.
I can't imagine why you'd want to have auto-dismount turned on for flying mounts. I'd hate to accidentally hit my Lightning Shield button instead of my autorun button (they're Mouse Button 5 and 4, respectively) and fall sparking to my death.

This is one of many things in 2.1 that I can't get enough of. It's so simple that it's hard to notice, but that's just a testament to how awesome it is. I was still dismounting manually at first, but no more. Much easier to run around herbing and mining now. Thanks Blizz!

You know today I have been reading a bunch of posts, and it turns out a lot of the things I thought were my add-ons working and it turns out they are now part of the default UI. Now when I get home tonight I'm going to have to figure out what if any of my add-ons are still working.

You know, I didn't even realize this was in. Well... there was that portal in Shattrath I was able to click while mounted that surprised me but I did not know why it worked.
This'll be nice but it would be cool to be able to configure it. Say... two different tabs (one for land mounts, the other flying), with your options being something like "Dismount on spell cast", "Dismount on instant spell cast", "Dismount on gathering", etc....

Yeah, great new feature, but I've grown so used to my setup I probably won't utilize it. I have my mount button set to scroll wheel down, and my auto run to scroll wheel up, saves a lot of energy it seems. I have a strange setup for a lot of my abilities that I've developed over the years though :P.

As a hunter there are some annoying things about this. I used to be able to switch tracking modes, Humaniod, Beast, etc. while mounted, now it autodismounts me. In BGs for example I used to mount immediately on rez and cast my humaniod tracking once I was already running. In all other ways I like the change.
