LF rep for cross-racial mount
It has been a while since I worked toward getting a cross-racial mount. I wasn't even really that interested in doing it with my alts until I started leveling my priest in the human lands to group with friends. All of a sudden she was honored with Stormwind and a seed was planted in my brain. I had a picture in my mind of a Draenei on a palomino, and it was a beautiful thing.
I didn't really start working on her rep until this week however, and man was I disappointed. Previous to Patch 2.1.0 people were raving about how easy it was to attain exalted reputation with any race in your faction, simply by completing all the Horde or
So it's not as simple as I thought, but I think it might still be doable. I played tour guide for an orphan, which got me about 500 rep or so. I am becoming a regular hero to the Night Elves, and soon will move on to questing for my own race (how novel.) But I am not sure I will have enough rep by the time I reach 40 to get my horse. Do you have any tips on how I can get extra rep now that Patch 2.1.0 is in effect? Is anyone out there doing the cross-racial mount thing along with me? Any tips you might have would be great. My priest thanks you.

I'm not certain how things have been changed since 2.1.0, but I do have Exalted with every race but the gnomes with my Draenei priest (at 44, no less), and a macro that randomly chooses between my Black Stallion, Striped Frostsaber, White Ram, and Grey Elekk. And I thought I remembered that I got my Ram after 2.1.0, but I'm not 100% sure of that.
The best advice I can give you is just to start at the very bottom of the quest chains - i.e., the quests you get at level 1 - and go up. Although the quests won't give you much (if any) XP, they should give you full reputation with their faction.
WoWHead was my greatest ally when I was going through this process (since, once you get more than a certain number of levels past a quest's level, the questgivers stop advertising their quests with yellow !s); you can find a full list of quests that give Stormwind reputation from levels 1-20 at this link: http://www.wowhead.com/?quests&filter=minrl=1;maxrl=20;cr=1;crs=72;crv=0
(The filter is relatively easy to expand and modify, too.)

I hasten to add that when I say "the very bottom of the quest chains", I mean the quest chains for that particular faction. For Stormwind reputation, start in Northshire Abbey; for Ironforge rep, start in Coldridge Valley, and so on. (You do have an advantage; although you can't see at a glance who will give you quests, the low-level quests are trivially easy if you have a mount-level character.)

Spillover rep only begins when you leave the start zone (Elwynn Forest, Dun Morogh, etc.) but before that, you'll be able to get a pretty hefty boost.
You're in luck, though, because you're trying to get Stormwind rep, which is one of the easiest. If you were trying to gain rep with the gnomes, you'd have a trickier time. But Stormwind is definitely doable. Just work your way through Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Redridge, Duskwood, and the associated instances and you should be well in to Revered.

If I'm not mistaken this was how it was prior to the patch also. I'd been working on rep for my wolf mount on my Blood Elf, then my friend told me to just go back to the starting area for which ever race I wanted the mount for. That was about a month ago. I didn't have enough at 40 but with the help of the Children's Week quest I was able to get my mount at 41.

I don't know if alliance have this, but a vender in Orgrimmar will sell you a "swift" mount from any faction by handing in 30 av, ab, and wsg marks. IE. black war wolf or such. I haven't actually tried it myself but I think said vendor doesn't take into acount your rep.

I got my Pinto Horse as a level 46 Dranei best bet for getting stormwind rep is to do all the Human starting quests such as northshire valley and goldshire. thats what I did and it works great
RogueJedi86 May 27th 2007 6:52PM
Yup, there's one in Stormwind. They're epic, level 60 mounts though. And I think that's cheating, in a way. I did the Rep thing myself for mounts. I'm level 64 and have Exalted with everyone but Exodar, and that's 3k away. Many think it's a waste of money, but I like being to pull out so many mounts on a whim. The Gnome mount impresses a lot of people(I'm a Dwarf). :P

Lexanya,
I can only tell you not to bother with the wolf mount. It is annoying like hell. It bounces in an extremely annoying way. Besides, I have a problem with a wolf as big as a horse. My Orc warrior will try to go for the raptor if I can.
Khanmora May 27th 2007 8:38PM
Amanda, I don't want to burst your bubble but the horses available at 40 don't include the palomino. You can get an epic mount palomino but not the regular mount. My human was so disappointed when she found that out :(
I did have exalted with everyone but the draenei by level 33 with her though. The trick was to go back to the start zones and do the quests for all the races (Northshire Abbey, Coldridge Valley, and Teldrassil, and now that the xpac is released Azuremyst Isle). I then continued to do all of the quests (including through Loch Modan, Ashenvale, Stonetalon Mts the places I usually skip). And did all of the holiday quests and cloth turn ins to get them all done before 40.
It took me about a day and a half /played time to get them all to exalted. If you don't know who the questgivers are for each starting zone make sure to look them up so you don't miss any quests. Faction specific quests (this was on my rogue so they had lockpicking, weapon, and poison quests for all the races) can also be done. If it is a weapon quest however it will sometimes take destroying your weapon and to get it again from the other faction quest.

One method is to continue doing rep for races you have completed - it becomes Faction reputation (signifigantly less, but still all the races). I do not like Eelkes so I made a point to get Human rep so I could get a Horse. I'd REALLY like a Mechanostrider, but grinding Gnomer to get that rep.... no thanks. I'll stick with doing some Dwarf quests (I'm just shy of Exalted with them, and I haven't done Coldridge Valley or Dun Morgh, just Wetlands, the Loch and various and Faction rep).
Surprisingly, did every quest on both Azuremist and Bloodmyst islands, and did not get exalted. But they are very close too. And my character Draneai.

Elo, between a ghey bright bird and a wolf I went with the wolf. :P I've already gotten my mount and I love the wolf. I think it has a lot to do with me just finishing "Lord of the Clans". That stupid bird mount is punishment for being a magic crack head.
RogueJedi86 May 27th 2007 9:29PM
Bobby, if you're a Draenei, don't bother on Gnomes anyways. Gnomish Mechanostriders are Dwarf and Gnomes only.
I notice most Draenei have a Darnassus Saber in their early to mid 40's, so I guess that rep isn't hard to get.

I got a black stallion when I hit 40 as a Draenai. I didnt start grinding SW rep till I hit 35ish. As the first poster said use wowhead.
Trahlys45 May 28th 2007 2:34AM
I just got my exalted rank with SW, tonight, at lvl 36. I am revered with everyone, but Darnarsus, which is screwy because I am Draenei. I just started at the beginning quest for SW - Northshire Abbey and have worked my way through SW quest from Westfall to Southshore.

I am a night elf druid with a Swift Palomino mount. How did i do it? luckily for me a epic warden staff dropped for me whilst grinding and i dident need it so i sold it in the AH for 200 gold.
I bought all the runecloth in the AH to rep grind stormwind using the cloth donation. Yup its daft and silly but it was free money anyway :)
Blake May 28th 2007 10:44AM
As a gnome, my mechanostrider worked nicely for me, but when I hit exalted with Stormwind, I switched to a pinto horse. I have since hit 60 and when I had the requisite gold saved up, I decided a frostsaber was going to be my first epic mount (this is only my second 60 character). I was about 1500 away from exalted with Darnassus, but I had completed most of the quest lines in Darkshore and Ashenvale. So, I did what any 63 would do - solo'ed BFD. Easy to do, just picked up 3 quests to complete, and in an hour I was exalted and had my frostsaber.
The bouncing is kind of annoying, and when I hit exalted with Exodar, I'll probably head up there and buy an Elekk (about 2k away - and there's some easy Exodar rep I'm finding in the Outlands, so I'll be there soon). Gnome on an Elekk FTW.

Every low-level grey quest in the target faction starter area. Each one I did on my BE to get the Skeletal Horse gave me 250 each.
Backfill with Runecloth...but do the quests first.

My Draenei shaman hit exalted with Stormwind at level 32 =)
She was about halfway through Honored with Stormwind by the time she left the Draenei starting zones, and from there I went straight to Northshire Abbey and started doing all the Human quests. I think I hit Exalted from doing the Southshore quests.
Watch out though - Draenei females do look sort of silly on horses. Their legs stick really far out to the side =( Here's to hoping that someday the Blizzard devs make Alliance mounts scaleable (example: raptors and wolves are much larger when a Tauren rides them)!

If you can wait until lvl 50 I reccomend doing the repeatable quests in AV for faction. Just be sure to loot any player corpses since they give the best drops for the repeatable rep turn-ins. I find that the blood and armor scraps are the easiest to gather.
Zilvermer May 30th 2007 8:23AM
I'm working on Exalted with SW too since I just don't like riding Elekks. I just hit Revered last night by doing the low quests. I'm only level 24 though, so I've much time to get there! I was considering a ram, but IF rep seems much harder to get.
