Does anyone do the world PVP objectives?

The world PVP objectives were a nice addition in the Burning Crusade. Capturing objectives in Nagrand, Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh and Terokkar Forest provided minor buffs to everyone in the zone, as well as exchangable tokens for the capturers.
Yet today, at least on Magtheridon, barely anyone actually does the world PVP objectives. What went wrong? As best I can figure:
- The rewards aren't good enough, at least for sustaining competition. As one of my guildies put it, "Woo, you get a graveyard in a zone you probably aren't doing anything in, or some marks for items that you don't care about."
- Unless you're doing SSC and can afford to station a couple people outside to keep the graveyard, most level 70s aren't in the areas affected by world PVP, and thus have nothing to gain from the zone-wide buffs.
- In a lot of cases, it's easier to get rewards simply by letting the opposing faction capture the towers/city/arena or what have you rather than actually holding the thing. "So you captured Halaa? Great! Now quick, lose it so we can take it back!"
- Dedicated PVPers are probably spending all their time on arena teams, rather than farming in Outlands.
- And, last but not least, that one level 70 in a guild with a name like "Huge PVPness" who spends hours in HFP or Zangarmarsh, constantly camping all of the objectives and pyroblasting anyone who comes near. Amazingly enough, no matter which faction you are on, this guy will always be on the other side and you will never have any 70s of your own to rescue you.
Other than increasing the rewards to attract more people and/or tying world PVP objectives into honor and arena points, I can't think of many ways to fix the world PVP situations. Currently on my server, there's little to no town raids and organized world PVP -- "world PVP" consists of ganking and the occasional hunter on roofs.
How is the state of world PVP on your server? Can you think of anything to make the world objectives more attractive?

For starters, make it so the objectives aren't capturable while on a flying mount. There are always people just running around capping from the highest point they can, and they will just fly away if you try to fight them, since there is no way to force them to dismount.

World pvp is rather decent on my server. Not a day goes by that something isnt getting attacked (even if im not the one starting it :P). In fact, its the only way i get HKs (cause i dont like BGs). Plus, i find it more fun cause theres so many other places u can fight and more unperdictability in world pvp then BGs.
So, the concept certainly isnt dead, just some servers like to do it more than other ^-^

The best world PVP seems to be around the Spirit Towers in Terrorkar. The difference seems to be because those STAY captured after you take them. So its worth it to capture them before running Shadow Lab (if the timing is right), as you can get the reward of the capture for the entire run. This also kills the incentive of letting it be captured so you can take it back, ala Hellfire.
If the Twin Spire Ruins stayed captured for a few hours, you'd see more competition for them between SSC guilds.

Halaa can be fun, but it requires a pretty large amount of people on both sides to be worthwhile, and this doesn't happen often- by the time I had enough tokens for my 18-slot bag and Dark War Talbuk, I was finished for good.

There is nothing to gain from taking turns with Halaa, there is no reward for capturing it, it's access to vendors once the city is captured.
Attacking Halaa also announces to everyone it's token farming time, they do have a unique gem which costs a fair few battle tokens afterall (not to mention 18 slot bags and an alchemy recipe in exchange for research tokens).
HFP also has gems and a banner that's boosts Thrallmar/HH rep gain quite considerably, very nice for those sick of running Shattered Halls over and over.
Terokkar not only boosts xp gains and damage for everyone in your faction in the zone for 6 hours, it lets you farm Spirit Shards which you can use for, you guessed it, more unique gems you won't get anywhere else.
Zangarmarsh rewards tokens for kills around the objective, which let you buy all sorts of wonderful niche items

While low, I can tell you as a druid that finding idols ANYWHERE is something very rare indeed, I expect it to be the same for shamans and paladins in that regard.
I'm on a low pop PvE server and World PvP is alive and well, maybe everyone on your server sniffs glue or something.

You're right, this is the best incentive for these objectives
In HFP, a few marks can save you quite a bit of gold for a decent +AP gem and that banner is a god-send for honor hold rep when trying to hit revered.
Terrokar: 5% more XP... come on, this easily makes this zone one of the best to level in just cuz of that zone buff.
Halaa: Dont want to grind to exalted for that ram? Just pvp! Youll have it in like 2 days.
Zangarmarsh: Very nice PVP rewards/trinkets for leveling up.

Wanna make Halaa worth fighting for? Put a faction AH, bank, and/or class trainers there. Not the cross-faction AH like in Gadget. A REAL AH. I promise you people would fight to control it.
Savok May 28th 2007 3:24PM
Put an AH there and they'll never STOP fighting. Sometimes a zone just needs quiet for a bit.

The main problem is that Blizz doesn't want to bother the players who don't wish to participate so the PvP objectives really don't have any value. They should make a whole zone contested, with resources that can only be gotten if you control it. Then you'd see some REAL warcraft.

My server has the worst Alliance-to-Horde ratio of all the servers, which really kills World PvP for the Horde. I've honestly never seen Halaa under Horde control on my server.
If you try any PvP whatsoever as Horde, you've gotta get a huge group together, immediately (if they just trickle in, the Alliance will also do its own trickling in), and get your crap done before the Alliance comes back with 4x the players to take back what you took.
Blizz needs to add some countermeasures to make World PvP more fair, like a damage bonus if you're outnumbered. Let's say there are 40 Alliance players in a zone, and 20 Horde. The Horde should be doing 50% more damage to Alliance players.
I'm VERY glad it's not a PvP server.

I miss the old world PvP.
The Plaugelands used to be great fun, but there is no-one there these days. Same with Silthus.
Blizz needs to show us some old world love.

Rewards definitely need to be bumped up. Most of the time they just flat out are not worth doing, based on the rewards.

There is no point to the current world PVP objectives. By the time you get around to either a) finding enough people to participate or b) racking up enough marks to buy anything, you could run 3-4 instances and picked up items far superior to what the PVP quartermasters offer. The only plus side to WPvP is that your "loot" is guaranteed.
World PvP (WPvP) on my server, outside of the random Halaa fun-ness, is pretty much dead. You see a few noobs or bored level 70s in Hellfire, but thats about it.
Since Blizzard dropped the ball on WPvP, my guild has been creating our own WPvP event every Wednesday night at 7:30 server. We tired of Kara runs and wanted something fun ... so ... every Wednesday we gather 10-20 guildies, pull in some of our favorite peeps from other guilds, and head out to Hillsbrad to pick a fight. If the opposing faction doesn't show (posted on the forums), we head to STV, Duskwood, Redridge ... and if need be, "we get in ur tramz" and head to IF for the festivities. We've had to go to IF twice so far to get any interest from the kiddies ... but once there it was quite fun.
There are no rewards outside of having fun, HKs, and stupid bets such as ... 50g to the priest who can mind control a select class, obtain full buffs, and get a kill with said MC ... etc etc. Despite having our own pallies now (Horde), we have bets on pally kill counts (last won ... by a pally) and change it up for other races/classes/gnomes.

# In a lot of cases, it's easier to get rewards simply by letting the opposing faction capture the towers/city/arena or what have you rather than actually holding the thing. "So you captured Halaa? Great! Now quick, lose it so we can take it back!"\
As I understand it, that has been changed in the 2.1 patch and now you no longer get marks for winning the thing, only for actually killing horde.
Btw, the same is true for the battlegrounds, often it would be easier to get your three marks by just losing quickly three times in a row instead of trying for half an hour to win. But somehow people don’t do that there :). So it doesn’t seem that that’s fundamentally wrong, yet somehow it didn’t really work out in Haala, apparantly.

Halaa - has seen some increased activity now that they dropped the price of the +10 resilence gem from the ridiculous 500 tokens to a more reasonable 100. I was already half way there when the patch hit, so now I have some incentive to fight there. But once that's done, I'm sure it will go back to sporatic activity.
Hellfire - I farmed this for a bit when I was trying to get to revered with Thrallmar. The Thrallmar Favors you can buy are nice when doing a SH run, so I stocked up. But yeah, it's mostly a round robin of we capture the Stadium they capture Broken Hill and then we swap. Not a heck of a lot of real PvP going on. And I think they changed the tower capture quest to a daily one...so it will see even less activity.
Terokkar - an objective worth fighting for. But usually not a heck of a lot of actual fighting. Jump on your mount, take a tower while sitting on top of it, move on to next one. More often than not one faction has a lot more people fighting than the other one and it's over in five minutes without a drop of blood spilled.
Zangarmarsh - useless. Tried it once in the first week or so of TBC just to see what it was all about and didn't see any point to it. The corpse run is not that much farther if you have to run from your camp. No one is wasting their time on this one.
Karazhan - no, this is not just PvE. Easily the best World PvP action in the game right now happens at that entrance as the huge piles of skeletons everywhere can attest. One night I had over 100 kills while we waited for a couple of late guildies to arrive for a run. A constant stream of PvP action. Now only if it would drop tokens.

I just got done with a 2 hour battle session over Halaa. It was the most fun I've had in WoW.
Scored 34 battle tokens and a nice belt. Don't know much about the 70's, but for a 67 pallie who's still leveling the rewards at Halaa are quite nice.
Milktub Jul 17th 2007 8:00PM
I agree with #17 there.
WPvP is mostly dead on my server (Alexstraza PvE), but usually on a weekend day there will be someone hollering for a horde raid on Halaa. When it finally happens it's great fun. Always starts slowly, with half a dozen folks slowly bombing away the gaurds, but then the excitment starts mounting as Halaa goes defenseless.
When it's on, it's a blast. You end up in situations that you don't get to see in battlegrounds. People are coming at you or running away from all angles, and there are no "defined roles" (e.g. let the druid take the flag) that make BGs boring at times.
Plus, the rewards aren't too bad for a casual player who doesn't have time for an Arena team or regular dungeon raids.
