Breakfast Topic: How often have you respecc'd?
My mage began her time in WoW as a fire mage, blasting everything in sight. I was in love with blastwave, utterly, but I couldn't seem to deal with crowd control at all, and since I was spending a lot of my time soloing, I respecc'd to frost. That was my first time switching specs. Since then I have respecc'd one more time, this time to one of the frost dps spec's recommended here on WoW Insider's Build Shop. I absolutely adore my spec now, and can't see ever changing it, despite my occasional longing for my Water Elemental by my side.
As I was talking over this little respeccing history with a friend yesterday I realized that I imagine that's fairly rare for players. I know in his case, as a paladin, he's had to respec numerous times, depending on the situation. It seems that being a jack-of-some-trades class means that you spend a lot of time and gold at the trainer erasing your talent trees.
What is the most number of times you have respecc'd a character? When would you consider enough to be enough?

As a druid I've respecced oh 7 times I believe, first from my crappy and non-gear complementary balance spec to feral, then back to balance around the 40's in my ever present urge to avoid being a carbon copy. Then somewhere after learning how awesome a healer I was I went resto, twice during this period blizz reimbursed druids talents, which saved me some money. Then my most recent switch at level 54 back to balance to level to 70, which has carried me to my current level, 63.

atm I'm respeccing my druid and my paladin about once a week, switching between healing and tanking spec.

I'm the same as you Amanda, I've only coughed up for the respec twice on my priest main. First time was from shadow to shadow to get Spirit Tap instead of Blackout for grinding, and the second time was from a leveling shadow build to a raid DPS shadow build. Yeah that's right, my guild didn't want me holy. I'm probably one of the few healers around who really wanted to be healing and couldn't =[

Never. Each of my characters are 'specced' for roleplaying, and I never make a mistake in doing so.

The most I've respecced is my 60 Warrior, who I think has respecced 6 times? Fury, Arms, Arms, Prot, Arms, Fury. In contrast, I've only respecced my 70 Hunter when Blizzard reset talent points, and she's been around almost since launch.

as a rogue, i respec twice a week....15-41-5 raid spec, and 41-20-0 or 30-0-31 arena/pvp spec

Hunter alt I've only respecced twice; once at level 25 or so (decided to level as FULL BM and only put points into Marks at level 50,) and at level 70 when I specced deep marks (I think it's something like 14/47/0.)
Rogue, though, man... Didn't respec at all from 1-60 but I had a really retarted spec (pretty much a tri-spec) so I went combat daggers; screwed up so respecced again; went assasination for awhile; went back to combat; tried sub; went back to combat; screwed up talent points so had to respec; pvp'd alot before tbc so went to assasination; respecced combat swords the day before tbc came out; respecced combat fists at 65; specced mutilate at 70, didn't like it for soloing; tried shadowstep, hated it completely; went back to combat with imp sap; and finally I started raiding so I got rid of imp sap so I now have the build I've had for months. (5mans were painful without imp sap, thank you blizzard for listening to rogues!)

I respec twice each week on my paladin PvP character between Holy (for Arena and some premade PvP) and Retribution (random battleground fun).
I'm not too worried about it since it is fairly easy to make 100 gold in TBC.
On my warlock raiding character I haven't respecced since I settled into an affliction build, although I did spend a lot trying to find a build I was comfortable with. Was worth it though :)

I've respecced three times on my warlock, and they were all done to fix my various noobish affliction tree mistakes.
Dark Jun 2nd 2007 12:49PM
I've had instances where i respecced my pally at least 3 times in a week. Got pretty expensive, but now that I'm doing kara I just stick with holy.

Same as 8. Same class, same noobish mistakes. The last one was to Demo to get a Felguard with TBC. And I should really respec again to move 2 firestone points to something more usefull.
It would be nice if Blizz gave us the ability to change a few points at a discount. Up to 5 points at 1g each, perhaps. We could us this to remedy mistakes, as well.

Warrior : Hybrid DW until 45, arms until 60, then prot, arms, prot (free respec), then fury until 65, and arms ever since.
Hunter : Heavy marks until 58, then went survival dps, went back to a raid-friendly marks until I had over 400agi, then back to survival dps. Is currently a heavy marks PvP build (still sitting at 60 and owning AV).
Rogue : Not counting messups, 4 times total.
Mage : Started frost until I realized that even with +100 frost, my fireballs still hit harder; then I went full fire and PvP'd at 39, then went PoM/Pyro at 42 and currently leveling up that way (plan for lots more PvP).
Paladin : Started ret like everyone does until I found it to be more boring than watching paint dry, so I went prot and haven't died since.

Somewhere around fifty times I'd say... But I think I've finally found a decent specc that I'm gonna hold to for a long time... (Hunter - hybrid MM/Surv, till LR 5/5 talent)
Thijz Jun 2nd 2007 1:50PM
I've respecced my warrior from arms to fury last month... But it still sucks...
Delilah Jun 2nd 2007 1:52PM
Amanda, don't be lured in by the siren call of Mind Mastery! 10/0/51! 10/0/51! The problem with Mind Mastery is that it doesn't scale well at all - once you start getting into the better +dmg gear, you lose a lot of int. So if you have any kind of decent damage gear, you're better off with empowered frostbolt. That plus the new Arctic Winds, plus the water elemental...10/0/51. I do so much more damage in raids than I used to pre-patch 2.1.
Anyway, back on topic, I don't respec all that much. I'm a pretty dedicated frost mage (see above!). My priest, though, I have a feeling I'll be respeccing a lot on her. She's lvl 63, and I'm toying with going the rest of the way to 70 as holy/disc instead of her current full shadow build. So there will be some experimenting there.

Priest, hmm about 12 times now. From leveling to healing on 60, then several to shadow again and respec several times to find the right spec. And on lvl 70 I'm raiding in shadow but i did respec several times to holy for healing.

64 mage, 60 rogue, 70 rogue are my 3 toons since launch, and pretty much I respec twice a month to try out different things. on my gnome rogue, when I have time to play I will respec for raids and instances for one day and then respec to farm for respecs the next day.
I've probably spent easily 2000g respecing on my toons.
Dave Jun 2nd 2007 3:44PM
I try not to respec so much. I've never paid more than 35g because i go long enough for the price to go down. I did change it twice recently for an arena team that lasted 2 weeks. Now i want to change my spec back to what i had before.
Twitchy Jun 2nd 2007 3:53PM
70 mage, ive been virtually every spec imaginable, settled in on a nice scorch spam spec 33/28/0
decent for raids, awesome for pvp.
bob Jun 3rd 2007 10:18AM
when the armory first came out, a guy on my server respecced every time he logged out.
bet that got expensive
