Essence of Souls killed by Nihilum (world first)
Nihilum is really on fire these days. Fresh from seven world firsts in the past week or so, they have now achieved the world-first kill (on the live realms, anyway) of the Essence of Souls, a Black Temple boss. No details have emerged about the fight that I've been able to dredge up, although WoWWiki speculates that the boss has a different phase for each of its three different faces.
In their comments thread, Nihilum deem the Essence of Souls "the hardest encounter we've met so far in WoW, ever" and "likely the hardest and most intense encounter in the history of world of warcraft," so my guess is it was probably pretty hard. Congrats! And in an unusual turn of events, they actually got their loot upon killing the boss:

What's the chain of boss progression in Black Temple? Who's after Essence of Souls? When is Illidan? I'm eager for Nihilum to get an Illidan kill, so we can see the Twin Blades of Azzinoth. Even though I'm still not clear on why we want him dead.

I don't really know why we want him dead either... But he drops PHAT LEWTZ!!.. so thats reason enough for me to drop his life bar to zero, and loot his corpse. I will just need to learn to live with my guilty conscience I guess. :)

We want him dead because he's crazy and will eventually move from Outland to try to conquor Azeroth, and Akama is sick of being using to hurt his own people, he's done alot of crimes and is just now facing what he deserves.

I believe the bosses left in BT after essence are:
Mother Shahraz, Illidari Council, and then Illidan Stormrage

Illidan wants the Burning Legion dead, and he is in a truce with the Night Elves, being that their his former people. He still has affection for Tyrande Whisperwind, and at the least is neutral with his brother, Malfurion. A bit like the Horde and Alliance. Both have common enemies, and have small ties to each other(Thrall and Jaina). But I don't see Stormwind destroyed in the name of the Horde.
Illidan seems like a swell guy. I at least hope he isn't killed in the boss fight, and somehow gets away. He's too great a character to get rid of this way. Arthas, maybe. But not Illidan.

When did this become the Nihilum blog?
RogueJedi86 Jun 2nd 2007 8:33PM
Geez, what's with you people? First you say this became a StarCraft 2 Insider blog instead of WoW, now you're complaining when they blog about world first kills. If some other guild had been the first to kill a boss in bleeding-edge content, they would've been posted about instead of Nihilum. Are they just supposed to pretend a Black Temple boss wasn't killed, just because it's the same people who've killed a few other bosses in the past few days?

I wonder why a Naaru-blessed rod does shadow damage. Weird.

I dunno, do priest talents still increase dmg done by shadow wands as well as spells like it used to (yes I havent played priest in 2yrs). If so then its shadow to be sweet lewt, but if not...then who knows :p Naaru must be evil after all.

I love the BAWWWW every time there's a Nihilum-related article. "omg who carez" "lolz i have a lief gz loosers" "omg nihilum blog 2!!11"
Quick correction: MMO-Champ didn't get those items from PTR kills (AFAIK no-one killed Essence on the PTR), they were dug up from item IDs as soon as a few pieces drops from a boss they can work out a pretty accurate list of that bosses' drops.

European servers: Where the gold is bought cheap* and high unemployment, and lots of social benefits, allows lots of playtime. "Grats" on your successes, Europe!

5500 gold on a US server = $629.
5500 gold on a European server = $138.
(Just a quick snapshot of the first server on US and Europe from a top gold seller site.)
They've bought their success. Maybe we can make them stars.

@11: Booo hoo, one bitter American you are. Now get back to work!!
Europe FTW!

Please don't start posting world first articles. That's what WorldofRaids.com is for and why I never visit it unless there's nothing interesting left to read on WoWInsider. The vast majority of players don't care about this sort of thing and many of those people are irritated by it. ^_^ Grats to them on whatever it was they did, but I will be very disappointed if my favorite fluffy WoW news site goes "hardcore" and starts tornhooting.

Loni: we've always posted world firsts, as far as I'm aware. I don't see why we can't have raid stories and "fluffy" stories too.
