Ex-Nihilum member claims guild exploited
There's some pretty interesting forum drama going on in the European Raids and Dungeons forums.
Lewt, an undead priest who spent two years in the guild before quitting WoW, claims that Nihilum purposely exploited a bug on their world first Lady Vashj kill (instead of an accidental bug that took away HP, as the guild states.) According to Lewt, you can purposely wipe at 20 percent and have a paladin use Divine Shield, which I don't really understand unless Lewt actually meant Divine Intervention. Then Vashj will reset to Phase 2, but since her HP is connected to the pillars she has, the HP will disappear when they despawn. This leaves her at 1 HP. Presto, a priest pops a soulstone and Shadow Word: Deaths her, and there you go. Lewt even provides a screenshot of him finishing off Vashj with an SWD, complete with chatlog.
Kungen, Nihilum's guild leader, fires back with some screenshots of guild chat immediately following the kill, which are full of confusion. He said that the HP loss was a bug during the fight that surprised Nihilum, not a specific strategy that they exploited to get the kill. Lewt responds by saying that Nihilum had exploited in the past on BWL, bought gold, and had the guild second-in-command, Awake, pay Kungen's real-life bills. I've heard the first two accusations, but the last one is freaking awesome. My guild leader never pays my bills.
And from there, the thread goes on in many entertaining ways, with Nihili (or whatever) and ex-Nihili arguing about the guild: whether it's possible to lead a normal life in Nihilum, whether the "Danish Mafia" edged out the English players, and a lot of other things that I'd probably understand if I spent more time on the Euro forums.
I really don't know enough about the Vashj fight to judge this. I don't like Nihilum's guild recruitment policy and the gold buying rumors, but I'm not exactly ready to take the word of someone who named themself "Lewt." Another forum poster probably has the right sequences of events: The raid wiped, they noticed that Vashj had bugged out, Lewt decided to pop the soulstone and SWD her, writing "Sorry, I couldn't resist" in chat. Then the Divine Intervention thing was when they were trying to get their loot off Vashj #1 while Vashj #2 had spawned. And now that Vashj is fixed and the top guilds are on to Black Temple, it's sort of a moot point anyway. As proven with Overrated, guilds who truly cheat will get found out eventually.

why does people still believe that the no-girls rule was anything but a joke? especially if you're a wow insider writer...

In a community of 8 million, there are going to be the hardcore guys. The ones who have the will to run ultramarathons, scale Mt Everest, sail the seas and so on. They just congeal in a high end raiding guild. (Not that the achievements are that big a deal outside the WOW community)

Just an interesting note: According to an EJ survey, around 30% of raiders have bought gold. Not very surprising.
The accusations: Where's the proof? She bugged out and reset at 1%, someone popped a SS and killed her. From BOTH chat logs it sounds exactly that way. I'm not saying Nihilum can do no wrong but this sounds like sour grapes from an ex-member.

@2 You do realise there is a girl in nihilum?
You do realise this has been mentioned about 4000 times?
I think lewt didn't 'leave' the guild on his own terms, and is just acting out to get some attention.
Michel Jun 4th 2007 5:43AM
what?? there are a GIRL in nihilium ? Where I sign ?

I think it was luck that they ended the encounter like they did. The truly entertaining part is their comments on their forums post kill about how that encounter sux blah blah. We hate you Blizzard for blah blah and in chat they were like gg Blizzard. Yet they pretty much pwned her from the SS and the 'new story' that has cropped up cause of some internal conflict. Post-Nihilum departure fighting seems to be quite entertaining. Though I don't really care about who pays their bills or whatnot. If they buy gold or not. Big deal. Though it seems like somebody got the /gboot and decided to tell a story out of anger?
For me, this raises more questions. Why would they say the encounter was so horrible post fight if they brought her from 20% to 1% so quickly? That makes zero sense to me. They make WoW seem difficult in their heads? There were a few comments post kill about their kill of Essence of Souls being extremely difficult also. Which I don't doubt cause they did get some practice in on the PTR. It did take them a little while to figure that one out. Then again they could be making more scare tactics as usual? Oh well another world first debunked.

Sounds like the fight was just buggy. There's certainly nothing new about that.
I find the gold buying thing more interesting, really. Its interesting that the high-end raid game is fueled by gold buying, and how people don't seem to have a problem with that. Those same people have a major problem with spam, but the gold sellers exist because of the gold buyers.

Nihilum exposes people who have the lack of balls to play Alliance characters for what they really are -- people that lack balls. GO NIHILUM!

here's the deal, their still considered the first, half the people that insult a guild and are in one shouldn't be people to judge. There will always exist a level of discrimination in any guild. Racism is existant period. Now don't insult someone's work, throughout game breakthrough. Personally in my opinion if many of you we're part of a big guild like theirs, you wouldn't want to bring up this issue. Could it be many are jealous, of course it can. People will always judge people on their performance, especially when their the first ones to accomplish something world wide. Another issue, Lewt so called left the guild or was he kicked maybe there was a reason, and may be a simple issue of wanting to get back at his so called "Home away from home." All I have to say is keep deconstructive criticism away from the topic.

That's not too big of a deal now, especially since people have moved onto bigger and better content. If they hadn't moved on, or nobody had passed Vashj then it would merit more attention.
It's not like a certain guild on my server (pre-BC)who downloaded new wall textures for Naxx (when Naxx was THE endgame) and set it up so they could run through walls and go right to the bosses. They, of course, got their arses banned.

I'm not feelin' it.
1) I didn't see anything in the screenies that told Lewt to pop SS and do the deed. It looks like that was his choice.
2) If they bought gold and it bothered Lewt so much, why didn't he tell Blizzard? Why did he hold on to it until now?
3) So someone payed someone elses bills? WTF? How is that a sign of a moral or ethical problem?
The thread was deleted, so maybe some of my problems with this were answered before the delete. If they weren't, then I call shenanigans.

First off
For those saying 'who cares', a lot of raiding guilds do. Mainly we learn off tactics employed by others through a variety of ways, so a guild that sploits passes the wrong info to us that will inevitably get fixed and therefore have to take a step back if the shite they have been using is cheats.
Second off, its a cheap kill. Look 'world firsts' are fine and dandy but no one lives off them and its sad if you do but the overall feeling is that if you can't do it right, it ought to be not credited as the first kill. It cheapens the game and the guild when you BS everyone going 'how did you guys do it?' instead of admitting you got past by exploiting the XY axis (another infamous boss kill for any oldschool players out there)
Regardless, the general goofiness overall of this does cast a dim light on Nihilum and their overall advancement in comparison to others. Sure, a lot of people will still go "I don't care cause I am not there" but honestly, if people get all up in arms over wallhacks in CS, what is the real difference between that and what Nihilum (may) be doing here?
Ticks me off, in case you are wondering

I love all the comments accusing "casuals" of being jealous.
I, for one, am not jealous; I pity them. Perhaps if they spent a bit more time grinding success and happiness in RL they could all finally move out of their parents' basements.
Boor Jun 5th 2007 5:23PM
I give props to Nihilum for the progress, but if that's the cost it takes, one can only pity them.
It doesn't look good for Nihilum, that's for sure.
Tom Jun 6th 2007 9:41PM
This is such BS
Nihilum are the only one with the guts to admit to buying gold. I would bet my house that every other top guild has had many members who have bought it (if not frequently).
And Nihilum owns all you haters hard anyway. Go run back to your DnT buming waste guild /spit
Skorne SwC Jun 30th 2007 10:34AM
Ya know? the way I see it is it really doesn't matter if they did, I mean...So what? they are showing everyone new content and weather they bugged Vashj or not, they are still doing BT and Hyjal honestly. Their guild recruitment does bother me but there are some good (and bad, don't get me wrong I am anything but sexist) points, come on, we have all seen guild drama befor and its never any fun. Also I heard Gror saying blizz should stop high end raiding, but I hate to tell you buddy, High end raiding -is- the game, its where they make the most money because if you hit 70 got D3 set and were done that would be the end of it. High end raiding brings a whole nother level of team work to the table and Nihilum really didn't do anything so wrong, If you can find a way to beat a boss you are gonna do it. simple as that.
angel Jul 8th 2007 8:52AM
haha, anyone else take the time to fully inspect lewts SS? That little black box he put over the top half of his chat box in the bottom middle seems pretty suspicious. Oh come-on, what are you hiding? I mean obviously if you have to cover up part of your SS, you're obviously hiding something, and if you're telling the truth, what is there to hide? I'm pretty sure Nihilum, as a raiding guild that has been raiding for years and getting all the world first kills before the BC would be good enough not to have to resort to exploits to kill simple bosses like Vasj. I've faught vasj, and believe it or not, its not too hard. If we can do it, umm Nihilum can do it. Next time don't cover parts of your SS up that give vital information thats supporting the fact that you're lieng. What, did you not get loot from a boss or something, so you had to turn around, and try to make them look bad. Oh, and you were a big part to that event anyways, why expose, and spice it up
?
