The Armory changeth
Recently some new features were added to the Armory section of the World of Warcraft website. These changes were put up yesterday, and there is enough here that it's worth taking a second look at. There are lots of nifty new features that make this site a whole lot more useful to players. I can't say whether or not it is yet a contender to the database sites, but we're definitely getting there.
The first thing to notice is that the arena team standards can now be visible when you search for teams via the armory. Not only can you see who you came up against, but you can also see their fearsome (and sometimes comical) emblems. It's also nice to see that rating has been replaced by a relevance column. It seems to make more sense that way, and doesn't leave you wondering what you could possibly do to improve your rating.
My favorite new additions to the Armory site are the added categories. Now there are tabs dedicated to items, dungeons, bosses, and factions. In addition to the items tab there is now a feature that lets you search for an upgrade for your armor and weapons. This is a feature that I have been looking for on the database sites, and have only been able to find something close when I visit WoW-loot.com. Now I am able to see what Blizzard suggests as an upgrade to those darn Tempest's Touch gloves I have been sporting for so long. Yes they're good, but they're also boring!
There is a new concept added called the "Pin a Profile." This acts as a save button for the website, making comparison of profiles easy as pie. The basic stats of the pinned profile will be saved in the upper-right-hand corner of the page with some small navigation buttons around it for simple bouncing between pages.
Last but definitely not least is a filter added to the search called "Desired by." This search lets you navigate through the items database on the Armory site looking for items that are desired by your class. In this way you are able to select the uber delicious gear for your 70 lock or your 42 pally. I think of it as a small out of game version of the Auction House, only without the temptation to empty my gold purse.
Lots of yummy goodness out there on the Armory now. Let's hope the functionality will continue to improve and their server strength bolsters over the coming weeks. Otherwise the site traffic from the forums might make the Armory searching a little dicey.

I love the armory.
If they ever add in a model viewer, so you can see what a character looks like with all their gear you are viewing on, I would be a happy man.
Especially if I could make him emote.

Wow that was fast :)

Unfortunately, the site seems to be completely flummoxed at the moment.

The changes don't appear to be in place for the EU as of yet, however.

Internet Explorer Only FTL.
Can someone ask Blizzard to give Firefox some love too? Thank god for IETab

I love the new changes, but their rating system seems a bit off on some items =/. I can't really complain though, the feature alone saves me HOURS of sorting through wowhead trying to find stuff that is realistically obtainable.
Thanks Bliz.

@5
I had no trouble browsing it with Firefox. In fact, Blizzard recommends Firefox for viewing their site.

Yeah it's clearly not all too organized. I'm a hunter and it recommended an epic thrown weapon to replace my gun :-/
All in all not bad. I like that the source of the item is clearly outlined which saves a lot of time sourcing through what's a 5% drop from this heroic vs. what's a quest/rep reward and can be worked towards.
It makes me realized itemization for mail bracers sucks terribly. It's recommending leather items.

I have Firefox 2.0 and it does not work, sadly IE only.
Jorelos Jun 6th 2007 12:04PM
I'm not sure about IE but the one issue I had with Firefox is that either due to the way the site is scripted (or more likely) due to the way Firefox handles it lags up the entire browser constantly.

Ya, the armory compeltely crashes Firefox (locks up the process) for me. Does this both at home and at work.

I can view the armory page just like I have been, but the new features, of pinning and looking up items via the profile, I can't see in firefox. Can you?

@5) From the Armory FAQ:
What are the recommended and supported browsers for the Armory?
The Armory supports Internet Explorer (version 6.0 and up), Opera 9, and Safari. However, the Armory is best experienced with Firefox. In addition, certain features require Flash Player to function. Currently, the arena team icons are Flash elements, and future aspects of the Armory may be reliant on Flash as well.
Until to this update I always had problems with IE 7, had to use Firefox for Armory Browsing (AJAX links hanging etc). Firefox always worked great
Amanda Rivera Jun 6th 2007 12:51PM
Tigraine,
The new Armory changes are Firefox compatible, but only with the latest version. If you upgrade your copy to version 2.0.0.4 you should be able to see all the snazzy new features without a problem.
Tigraine Jun 6th 2007 1:32PM
@Amanda ..
something went wrong here :)
I tried to point out that Firefox worked just fine.
BUT: I for my part prefer to use Internet Explorer 7, and THAT was a problem with the older Version of Armory due to some Problems in their AJAX Code.
Now everything works just fine and Firefox still works fine.
And I just quoted that Blizz text to tell Poster #5 that Firefox is working, not broken :)

This change ROCKS I have always had a hard time doing just this finding upgrades now it is so EASY.
This is the best thing since the armory has come out I would say!!!!
Very excited!!
FireStar Jun 6th 2007 2:59PM
@16 completely agree. Rocks!

I'm currenly wearing 'object OBJECT' for all my gear. Not sure what the set bonus is for 'OBJECT' but I'm sure it pwns.
RogueJedi86 Jun 6th 2007 5:52PM
I love the new item/gear information. At the rate Blizz is going, Allakhazam/Thottbot/WoWHead will be outdated within a few months of tweaking of the Armory. Just you wait. The second Blizzard adds Quest Walkthroughs to the Armory, it will become a de facto information site.
Yeah, I love the stuff they keep adding.

I have FF 2.0.0.4 (Max OSX) and it works fine. Does not seem to work on my Safari 2.0.4
