The disappearing Hunter pet skill trick!

The other day a friend of mine went through what we initially thought was a weird bug not unlike what happened to Trappa and Craig. When he logged on to play his hunter, he found that the Scorpid Poison Rank 5 skill from his pet had vanished. Oh no, he thought, something is definitely weird and filed a ticket with the GMs. He had tamed his level 51 scorpid the day before, only to have the skill disappear the next time he summoned his pet.
After some clarification from the GMs and some research on his own, he found out that the talent was too high for him and his scorpid, and so was removed because of his being level 55, not because of a bug. So why did the level 51 scorpid have a skill that is labeled as having a minimum level of 64 he asked? Good question. No answer from the GMs.
My hunter is young, and I admit that I have set her aside for now to focus on my other characters, but this still seems wrong to me somehow. I don't see the logic in having a skill on the tamable beast that ends up being too high for you once you tame said animal. Help me out here. Is this really as great an inconsistency as it seems, or am I missing some piece of the puzzle that will make it all clear to me? Have you found any gaps in the pet skills like this elsewhere in the game?

As for your question, yes it seems a bit strange since according to Petopia there is indeed a lvl 51 Scorpid that comes with Scorpid Poison 5, the Scorpok Stinger in the Blasted Lands.
But it also appears the only other Scorpids with lvl 5 Poison are lvl 64-69 Outlands Scorpids. So maybe Bliz is making some stealth changes to this aspect of the game, increasing the level requirement of Poison 5 and about to remove it from the lvl 51 Scorpids. No idea really, just speculating.

It's been this way for at least 4 months -- I did the exact same thing. The pet can keep the skill until you logout & log back in.

Let's mention the following unlearnable skills:
Gore 5 - Gore 6 - Charge 4
There are no Boars (or Ravagers) in the level range from 29 to 47.
Rotting Agam'ar is 28 and Ashmane Boar is 48, and there's nothing in between.
Therefore those skills are not in the game, even if the GM (when I asked about it) said that the skills ARE in the game.
By the way, Boars are maybe the most used pets (after cats), so it's kind of wierd that nobody at Blizzard fixes this issue.

Those boars are classified as "undead" and not as "beast", therefore
they're not tameable (and even if they were, they don't have those
skills.)

I had the same problem at lvl 63 with the Spiders outside Shattrath. Spider lvl63 had Bite (Rank 9), tamed and learned. Logged out and next gone. Bite (Rank 9) is for lvl 64. Actually had to do it again and the second time it stayed because while in the course of questing I dinged 64. All's well now and both my Ravager and Raptor both have Bite 9
