Breakfast topic: WOW plus other games

Recently, I've been playing a lot of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. This in itself is not surprising -- I picked the game up a year or so ago, became overwhelmed at the options, and then finally came back to it when I had a lot of spare time.
I'm enjoying it, but it's beginning to mess with my WOW skills. Two fantasy-based RPGs do not always work well in sync. I've been pressing Ctrl to stealth, E to jump, and trying to hit C to cast spells. This leads to a lot of strafing and bringing up the character screen in combat. Oblivion has also left me with a marked aversion to clicking on anything or fighting in a city, despite most of WOW's guards being so clueless they couldn't recognize it if I stole their armor off of them.
I've had this problem before, with Diablo when I first got into WOW ("I keep clicking, why isn't my sword swinging any faster?") and Knights of the Old Republic ("So I don't get punished for doing morally incorrect quests?") Have you ever confused the mechanics of WOW and another game you were playing at the time?

ooooh, Control to stealth. Good idea.

Yep, I keep pressing "num" in Counter-Strike for auto-run.

Heh, when I came back to WoW from playing NWN all the time, I kept moving the mouse to the edge of the screen to pivot the camera and left clicking everything instead of right clicking. Led to a lot of frustration for awhile.

I haven't crossed a game with WoW yet, but i did get up set that i couldn't grind my skateboard while heading to defuse bombs in counter strike after playing tony hawk pro skater

I tried playing some NWN this weekend, after not touching the game for more than 6 months... Man, that was hard, I took forever to get used to the point-n-click and camera movements... Nah, I'll just stick to WOW :)

I keep trying to autorun in FPS games. It's only really bad when the autorun button (wheel click) happens to be bound to, say, "throw grenade".

Yes, the stealth thing in Oblivion is much more life-like as it were, but it's nice to rob the king of his jewels from time to time, (if you're lucky) but I think that if principles like these were applied to WoW, then it would make life harder for us Rogues and other common tasks we carry out!

No, but when I came back and played my Paladin to 60ish, and then played my 60 rogue for kicks again, I completely forgot how to play and was using all my paladin hot keys. I felt like I bought my account on eBay it was so bad. :(

I try to only play console games outside of WoW for that very reason.

Sure have, because of wow I have a hard time not holding down the right mouse button all the time in an fps.

Yep. I play a lot of Kingdom of Loathing and I've caught myself many times hoping for WoW armor to have "+ Item drops" enchants.

I dun play any other games. O.o but I catch myself holding my push to talk button on the phone. And I use 3d modeling software at work and the mouse wheel zoom controls are backwards.

My problem is most often camera control - especially with Neverwinter Nights 2 - the controls for moving the camera and changing views are just similar enough to WoW, that I get totally screwed up by the minute differences. Though to be honest I haven't played NWN2 or Oblivion in ages. I'm glad I have them - and eventually I will play them to completion...but WoW is kinda taking over right now.

I often attempted to use Push to talk to talk to people IRL when I was sitting at the computer. As a result, I informed the MC raid I was leading that I didn't know where the cat was, and she wasn't under my bed. Mockery ensued.

Also, when I got Zelda: Twilight Princess, I would try to sneak by mobs without aggroing them. I also referred to the different temples as instances, and I was upset when I couldn't farm for rupees for my magic armor.

I played a lot of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth for a while just before TBC. First thing I did after playing Cthulhu was run away from the mobs... I wasn't used to actually having a weapon and NOT going insane from seeing an enemy. The felreaver footsteps in HFP made me jumpy until I adjusted.

Neverwinter Nights, definitely. I keep wanting to play it again, but the controls are so frustrating compared to WoW...

"Impulse 101" does NOT work in WoW.

I get the same problems with TES and WoW. I always forget what key does what on both games. Ill play WoW, forget thee Oblivion controls then go back to WoW and forget those. Always fun!
