Breakfast topic: WoW in the world
It's been a while since we last did this, so let's do it again: Where have you seen WoW in your real life world?Umi on WoW Ladies sees BOP, and automatically thinks Bind on Pickup. I was once driving around looking for a party, and had been playing WoW so much lately that when I realized I was lost, my first thought was to type /1 (without a computer in the car, mind you), and ask where the party was in General chat. No one was in the car, but I felt pretty stupid after having a thought like that.
And my favorite lately came from that post on boss quotes the other day. Here's what happened to commenter Thingy at work:
Person 1: "How about we get that stuff in next week?"
Person 2: "Too soon"
Me: "You have awakened me too soon, Executus."
*odd looks from the rest*
Me: *finally realises what I just said*
Funny. Where have you seen WoW in the world?

About a week after getting my girlfriend hooked on WoW she calls me from the car and says, "You know, while driving for the last 15 minutes I have been checking the surrounding countryside for copper deposits."

I notice that when I'm at business parties, lunches, or get togethers (like we don't see enough of each other during the day) I'm very aware of how much agro I generate. In other words, don't make eye contact, they might come over and talk to you. That sort of thing. This also applies to people who are selling things on the street and such.

I work in downtown Chicago, lots of lunch options. Several of the bigger buildings here have multiple food spots in them and they are named boring things like "401 N Michigan", or "222 W Wacker". When we discuss where we are going to eat, it's no fun to list those buildings. So we have named all the nearby multi-food complexes with instance names. Shadow Labs, Botanica, MC, Underbog, etc all exist near north Michigan ave!
Trying to get non-wowers to just call them that has been a bit of a struggle. They'll come around.

Sigh, I farmed Netherwing rep like a madman this weekend for my drake ... went from honored to exalted in two days (yay eggs). I got it ... but it cost me on Monday.
I'm not repeating what happened ... all I'm going to say is that there are now two girls in this office that think something is seriously wrong with me ... and my co-workers/guildmates won't stop making fun of me. It has gone so far as to have them create a new rank in the guild just for my toons.
To my defense ... I was REALLY tired and did not think before I opened my mouth =/
PS - I know my friends are going to reading this ... I hope you guys DIAF! At least I got drake (chicken).

Recently someone was showing me a picture of their daugther, and in my head I was going to ask "Oh.. how old is she?'. But it came out, 'What level is she?'

The day I knew I needed to lay of WoW and get some sleep was the day I was coming home from my boyfriend's house and stopped at a stop sign. I looked both ways, didn't see any cars, and naturally I thought to myself "Yea, but there may be some stealhed cars out there waiting to get me".
I told my boyfriend and he laughed for about a week straight.

This one is not too funny, but it's real. When I was assigned to a HR project in the company I work for, I noticed how WoW can be useful in real life. After much debate, we realized we could structure our career plans as talent trees on WoW - as people studied and made progress, they would improve certain "talents" that were linked - so after being considered fully prepared in a certain "talent", a person could pursuit two or three different specialization paths related to that talent, with an increasing salary the "deeper" that person went in one of the trees. They could also go for a "hybrid build", incorporating talents from different trees. Career choices became pretty much like deciding if you're going to be an Elemental/Enhancement/Restoration or Hybrid Shaman!
Since WoW is a big hit between the people who work at this company, everyone quickly understood the concept and what they needed to learn in order to evolve and grow within the company, and where they could eventually get if they invested their time and effort in developing certain talents.
The only hard part was convincing the "conventional managers" that they would have to respec in order to understand these new ideas ;)
