Get your own Ghost Saber

Petopia promises a "how to" on where to get your own soon, but if you don't want to wait, apparently it spawns at level 19 or 20 from "Glowing Cat Figurines" in the northernmost Naga area in Darkshore. Find cat figurines on the ground (Dwarven treasure tracking will find them, apparently), open them up, and there's a chance that the Ghost Saber will spawn. Tame him and he's yours. He may die soon afterwards (since the spawn has a usual despawn time), but even if he does, you can simple ressurrect him as long as you've tamed him as your pet.
The low level of the pet, unfortunately, doesn't really make it easy for hunters who are already high level (since to get this guy up to 70 from 20 would just take way too long). But if you find one that's 19, it's perfect for battleground twinks or up and coming Hunters who want a cool, different pet.

My wife got this quite a ways back. At the time, it was unique. Now...not so much. The things are bordering on common. It is a very cool looking pet, without a doubt. However, it is rapidly becoming the black warmount cat of the hunter world. And if you've ever been in the Alterac Valley BG's, you'll know just how common those black cat mounts have become...

It's really easy to get. I got one on the thirteenth cat figurine I picked up. No, it wasn't a glowing cat figurine, just an ordinary one. As soon as I looted the container, it spawned and attacked me, and I was able to tame it after abandoning my temporary pet.
However, while on the way to level it up, I came across two other hunters who ALSO had it! So not that unusual at all, apparently. I went back to my tried-and-true, already trained-and-leveled boar.
By the way, if you want to level up a pet a long way (say 20-70), just respec your hunter to survival (or Marksman might also work) and fight hand-to-hand for a while to level up your beastie. You can't rely on them to handle the monsters until they get within 3-5 levels of your experience, but survival hunters should be able to handle greens or low yellows solo quite easily.

can the cat figurines be picked up by horde or even higher level alliance characters that have already completed the quest? i'd like one for my horde twink's collection.

You don't need a quest to pick up the cat figs. They'll spawn randomly either way.
And yes, this has become a MUCH more common pet on the realms I've used.

Every time I see one now it's become the new "noob pet moment", unfortunately.
Oh! ANOTHER Ghost Saber. Yay.
It's a problem of pets having more reason to get them. Give Raptors a "lashtail" ablity, Hyenas a "disease" debuff, serpents a dispell (or something), and you'd see ALOT more reason to have something other than a cat, boar, or windserpent (which it seems is all you see anymore).

I got mine at level 25, long after I had done the quest in the area. I opened a lot of figurines before she spawned. I tamed her, hearthed out to the inn in Ratchet and looked down and she was dead at my feet...another player in the inn gave me an odd look. But I had researched it so I rezzed her and she has been fine since then.
FWIW, I've never seen another on my server altho I'm sure there are others.

Are any other hunter's frustrated at the extreem leveling curve for pets? I've never had a boar before (I always favored bears for some reason). I respecced BM and realized the awesomeness of having a double stun if needed. Unfortunately, the highest level boar is 60 so I'm stuck wandering through outland with a pet 10 levels lower than me.
I take him out when I'm farming consortium rep in an effort to level him up without gimping my DPS in a raid/group setting, but it's taking forever. I can't imagine grabbing a level 20 pet and trying to get it up to 70.

I used a ghost saber from 19 to 66 and have run into less than a dozen other hunters with one. Even though I use a warpie full time now, I still keep my ghost saber stabled.
Ghosties with Prowl & Dash are very very hard to see in open country, let alone at night or in any kind of rough terrain. I've put mine on prowl standing in the Stormwind bank and people havn't been able to spot him. The usefulness of this in PvP should be obvious. ;-)
I don't think this sudden rise in popularity is 'noobish' or anything like that. Ghosties are just like other hunter pets that are only available in small, specific areas; all you have to do to get one is know where to look.

Thanks for posting this, my 24 hunter was happy to get a new pet and I've been really enjoying the ghost saber.
On the other hand from everyone else commenting, I haven't seen anyone else on my server with one, in fact I had two hunters in their 40s-50s ask where I got such a cool pet.

i mean...whats rare and cool thats left anymore? i mean, whats left to really hunt?
Jiazu2 Jun 23rd 2007 4:13AM
@12 yeah really! I'm glad I got mine a while ago... there probably won't be many 40ish hunters training a cat twenty levels.
@11 I haven't seen anyone else with this on my server either..
This was my second major pet.. I've had mine since level 21 or 22 (i'm at 39 now).. I play horde, and so I swam from the horde outpost in that place south of darkshore... i think it took me about one and a half water breathing potions... not sure how long that is. It only took about an hour or so of searching the cat figurines though.

Ok, two days ago, right after this article came out, I took my level 18 hunter to norhtern darkshore to get this fine looking cat. On the way, I leveled up to 19. After about 2 or 3 hours of searching for figurines, I finally open one (about my sixth) and a ghost saber appears. Great! I quickly abandoned my beloved boar which I had since level 10 and start to tame. All went well and this transluscent cat became mine. It de-spawned as expected, about 5 minutes later, after we hearthed back to XR. I re-summoned my pet, and again this new cat was by my side. We flew to Org, where I visited the hunter trainer, because during my grind for the cat, I levelled again, to 20. There, I quit the game for the night.
The next day, I joined a group (four of us) for wailing caverns. Along the way, I got 2 whispers about my cat, which I enjoyed and responded with where I got it. Then in Wailing Caverns, my group wiped when we pulled to many at once. After the graveyard run, I entered the instance. I called my pet, and what did appear? My old trusty boar. Truthfully, I like my boar, but I am confused about why this might have happened. Where is my cat and why is it no longer with me? Any ideas?

@kayor - try to stable the boar and see if the ghost saber reappears...
