Happy Midsummer Fire Festival!
Yup, the festival of flame is appearing in Azeroth starting today through July 5th. There will be bonfires in the cities, new quests to be run, and new rewards to be had (Toasted Smorc is some tasty stuff, and that +44 healing is nice, too). And of course, coming next week around July 4th, the fireworks will fly over Azeroth's cities yet again.I'm kind of excited to see what new stuff there will be to find in Outland-- I especially enjoyed the new Children's Week stuff this year (even though it took long enough to show up), and so I wonder how they celebrate Midsummer Fire in Nagrand or Shattrath. Can you imagine what fireworks would be like in Netherstorm, if they indeed have exhibits up there? Should be cool-- or in this case, hot.
Enjoy the Midsummer Fire Festival-- I'll see you out by the bonfires.

Hmmmm...
Looks like some quest rewards are elementals that you can summon to fight for you? Sounds interesting! I just might actually have to finally do some of these!

I picked up all the quests available in Ironforge when I saw them. There's some Midsummer Folk just NW of the Shatt FP, but they gave no Outland-specific Midsummer quests. Then again, maybe it's for 70's only, I'm only level 66.
Gonna have to scrounge a group together to get the Captured Flame pet from the quest "A Light in Dark Places". LBRS, Scholo, Strat, and DM-North, where the flames are.
And don't forget to sneak into the opposing faction's non-BC cities, and steal their flames. Get all 3, and you can turn them in for a neat hat.

When your linking to an item on a database please don't use thottbot use wowhead. Please don't support the gold sellers.
Wartooth Jun 21st 2007 10:32AM
can someone post a link to this hat you get from stealing the fires from the opposing factions cities please?

How about some fireworks 3 days sooner? On July 1 - Canada Day... with our frozen winters, we have nothing better to do but drink real beer and play WOW...
Side note: I really enjoy these "extras" that Blizzard gives us... I still have a few wands in the bank...

1) Thottbot links FTL - they refuse to take down gold selling links. WoWhead is run by three guys and they can manage to do the work to have no gold selling ads displayed.
2) I hope the little elementals are as cool as the spiffy flaming shoulders from last time.

As much as I hate Thott not getting rid of the gold selling stuff, wowhead does not work at my workplace due to web restrictions (WebSense). I can https: to Thottbot and get there without any issues. Even when using Proxify, wowhead does not come up fully functional. So, I acctually have to say that I like them using thottbot for that reason.

Brad, we'll continue to link to the site that provides the most information on a certain item. Thottbot's goldselling ties are weak, and if you really want to blame someone for the gold problem, you should blame the people buying gold, not the people taking money from the sellers or whoever else has chosen to advertise with them. Thottbot isn't responsible for gold sellers any more than Time magazine is responsible for alcoholism because they run liquor ads.

Are the elementals like a pet? The last time I saw them, they were a limited use item (3 charges). :(

How does Wowhead generate revenue without any ads? Just wondering if they are trying to generate enough traffic to eventually hope to sell their asset to the highest bidder someday.

Aw dammit! I'm going to miss it AGAIN! Last year when this happened, I didn't have an internet connection. And this year, I'm taking a break from the game.
Doh.

wowhead is owned by Blizzard. They don't need advertisements any more. They use to have ads on their site for all sorts of wow services/guides.

"Final statement: IGE owns thottbot.com, ogaming.com, and a host of other
gaming sites."
How weak are those ties again?
Mike Schramm Jun 21st 2007 1:04PM
You guys are all crazy :)
As far as I know, WoWHead is not owned by Blizzard. They posted a press release saying that, but it turned out to be an April Fool's joke. At any rate, hopefully we'll find out soon-- I plan to have a nice piece up on WoWHead by next week or so.
And as for Thott, did you read the thread that you linked to, IKT? IGE *may* be paying for Thott's hosting but that hardly means Thott supports gold buying. Not to mention that I don't see any gold buying ads on his site, and even if I did, I blame gold buying on the gold buyers, not a guy who provides a great resource and makes money for doing it.
As far as I'm concerned, visiting Thottbot is not supporting gold sellers, whether IGE owns him or not. I've talked to Thott about it in the past, and there's no drama here. End of story.
So how about that Midsummer Fire? :)

@15, Mike:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
...
You aren't really serious are you?
The report that WoWHead was being bought by Blizzard was an April Fools joke. Go check the site headling history about it. Although true, 90% of the ads I see are for Alliance/Horde 1-60/70 powerlevelling guides. If they get enough off of that, more power too them.
Justin Jun 21st 2007 1:58PM
I am really looking forward to some "inside info" on both WoWHead and Thottbot. I have used both sites in the past, have no animosity to either one, and would love to know more about them and their creators. Its things of this nature that keep me coming back to this blog!
Rich Jun 21st 2007 1:53PM
Who cares who funds who. All of them have the information. If you don't like thottbot, then don't click on the link (Like I tell my gf, if you hate the way KFC treats their chickens, then stop buying KFC :D ). Its not like they don't tell you what the item is. You are smart enough to use the search feature of your favorite site.
Anyway, I am looking forward to this festival. I was only in my teens last year and didn't get a chance to fully do it.
Argent Jun 21st 2007 2:57PM
someone saying that thott has more information than other sites amuses me.
50 million instances of 'HUNTER WEAPON' isn't necessarily better, just more. for the most part, the comments in wowhead are much more spot on for most everything i look at.
imo, anyway
