Gamers on the Street: Attunement changes

This week, I picked the Gnomeregan server by asking someone in the <It came from the Blog> guild to name a server for me. It was the first one that was given to me. I rolled my two characters -- a Gnome Rogue and a Troll Rogue, which I dutifully leveled past one so nobody thought I was a gold spammer -- and headed for the major cities nearby to ask my questions. Amusingly, getting anyone to talk to you at level five (Alliance) or three (Horde) was difficult to say the least...

The first person I managed to talk to, after several minutes of getting no replies to whispers, or having people log out following being whispered, was a very nice Night Elf Hunter named Boherline of the guild <Metempsychosis>. He and his cat named Buddy (not pictured) gave me a few minutes of their time and their candid thoughts.
Wow Insider: What do you think about the attunement restrictions being lifted for Serpentshrine Caverns and Tempest Keep: The Eye?
Boherline: I do not think it should have happened. Especially after some people -- namely myself -- spent hours and hours trying to complete certain (hard) heroics and attunements.
WI: How do you think the changes will personally impact you, or will it impact your guild?
B: lol. I just left my guild actually. But it will certainly cost some people in guilds more gold in repairs, as they will go into things that they are not equipped for. (aside: He was guilded to <Metempsychosis> mid-interview.)
WI: Do you think Blizzard should focus on more raid content or more 5 man content going forward? And if you said Raid, what size: 10, 25 or back to 40?
B: I would like to see it raid focused. I think 25 is a great number. 40 was just too much, and 10 isn't enough.
From there, I hopped to the Horde side, and started to level my character past one to make my trek. I was greeted by a charming L40 Dwarf Hunter and a L26 Human Rogue Alliance trick-flagging and then ganking level 1-4 characters in the Valley of Trials. (I will admit I logged over and asked one of their Guild mates about getting them to move on, because attacking anything in a noob zone is about slimy in my opinion.) Rather than deal with them any longer, I headed straight for Orgrimmar at that point to ask my questions. Being a Hordie at heart, I was -more- than surprised at the response I got from the Horde on Gnomeregan. While many of my requests on the Alliance side were met with silence or logouts, several of my Horde requests were met with snark, flames, "lol noob" and some insults that I can't reprint here without quite possibly getting in trouble. A few were silent, and in comparison to their compatriots, I thank them for that.
After about an hour and a half of trying, I was ready to log out and say that I'd given the Horde population of Gnomeregan a fair chance to contribute. Just then, a lovely Priestess named Eights from the guild <Waste Management> whispered me back that she would be willing to answer a few questions for me, as best as she felt she could.Wow Insider: What do you think about the attunement restrictions being lifted for Serpentshrine Caverns and Tempest Keep: The Eye?
Eights: I think it's pretty nice for the casual gamer. But people who aren't ready for the areas (both gear and gameplay know-how) may not do well, which will probably lead to a lot of frustration.
WI: How do you think the changes will personally impact you, or perhaps impact your guild?
E: I'm in a pretty small guild so it will be easier to find people to run them with. It's nice to not have to be part of a huge guild that grinded out the attunements. But then it comes back to the fact that the people we find may just not be ready for it the way we are.
WI: Do you think Blizzard should focus on more raid content or more 5 man content going forward? And if you said Raid, what size: 10, 25 or back to 40?
E: Personally, I prefer the 5 man instances. Raids are nice, but there are so many issues such as who gets loot and people not showing up. Plus it's easier for a smaller group to learn how to work together.
Honestly, both sides have things I agree with. I can see it as being frustrating for those who did complete the attunement arcs already. But if Blizzard institutes further quests on those chains to reward the players who achieved those heights as they were mentioning, that might be a nice compromise. I also agree that it was a good gear check for those who would go there, and that there is probably going to be some sense of frustration from those who haven't done them and are just (ahem) not prepared. What do you think about it? Prefer 5 man, 10-25-40 man, or do you have an idea Blizzard hasn't even dreamed up? Do you think continuing the Attunement arcs with some tasty special goodies at the end is a good compromise for those who have already gone that far? Or is it just enough knowing that you made it in there the hard way and earned your stripes when earning them was tough to do?
Join us next Sunday as I report back with the opinions from the Front Lines of WoW on current game events from completely random folks... Assuming, of course, people talk to me. hee!

That hunter of yours appears to be a bit of a guild hopper... he's in a new one already, Karate Explosion.
And yeah, me and my guildies had a look inside SSC on the weekend when we were getting ready for Heroic slave pens... at least we would have, if it didn't let us in the instance because I had it set on Heroic! We're still a loooong way off being able to take down any bosses in there, which I think is the point - casual guilds like mine will see the inside of SSC and TK for real, around the same time as when we would have through attunements. Hardcore raiders are crying about having to share their space with us casuals, but realistically, we won't be snapping at their heels on progression any time soon.
Bring on Zul-Aman!

Personally I would like to see another 10 man, or a 15 man, from which guilds can progress to from Kara.
A lot of guilds I have seen have a decent group running Kara, but have issues making the next step up to 25 man

Yea I think something between kara and the 25mans would b great not just in terms of progression and difficulty but in size to help move a guild from 10mans to 25mans

I just don't get the "they won't be geared for it and brind frustration" argument. AQ40 had no attunement. BWL attunement is easy enough for any casual player to get. For Naxx one just needed cash. Yet at 60 noone got frustrated about unable to kill a boss in those places. It's just common knowledge that these raids require certain level of gear (and raid-experience). How is that different with the BC-Raids?

Attunments dropping out has no impact on me whatsoever. I quit the big hardcore raiding guilds several months ago and haven't looked back since.
I've been part of several, I've even led one guild, and the hassle it entails is just too much if you want to enjoy the game and have a life on the side.
In my experience so far; You have to join a hardcore raiding guild (that does 6x5 every week as well as grind all your consumeables/repair money) if you want to play with people who actually understand how to play, or you're stuck with a group of semi-dedicated people who raid less, but also take about 3 hours just to get past 1 boss.. :(
Personally, I'm hoping blizzard will focus more on 5-10 man content and also have it drop higher iLvl items. I mean, fighting something with 5-10 man, should be a lot more challenging than with 25, right? :)

OMG! Im sorry you had to endure Gnomeregan... I mean seriously, I think we were the last server to open AQ gates... not only that, but ther are alot, and I mean alot of people that are extremely rude on Gnomeregan... Id know, I have 2 70s on it, lol. the trick is finding the nice group of people, which don't enjoy belittling people. Server inflation is absolutely horrid on Gnomeregan as well... anyways... flame away

Blizz made a good decision with TK. the heroics were a sticking point with our guild and some of the players could only raid and not get in the heroics. I do think SSC attunement should have been re-worked so it involved no heroics but you should still need to kill Nightbane. that was a very good progression check for guilds. Keep the keying in the instance preceeding it.
also 10 mans shouldn't come into play once you start 25 man raids. You spend time building the 25 man team and then you have to worry about building 1-2 10 man raids. a 15-20 man instance to help guilds build up to a 25 man i think is a good idea.

My story:
On Friday my GM said that we had to get attuned to The Eye by the following Thursday (that is, complete all heroic pre-quests by Wednesday, our scheduled Mag raid).
That night I did 1 heroic as healer, then respecced Feral to tank another. 2 down, 2 to go.
Saturday I hung around all day waiting for the right setup of people to come online, helping other guild mates get their revered with the right factions etc, and by midnight had managed to complete the last 2 heroics.
I /sighed and patted myself on the back for having the final Trial: Magtheridon.
Sunday night raid (SSC).
Monday night raid (Hydross server first kill).
Tuesday night raid (Gruul grind) - and then I find out that in 24 hrs the attunements are removed.
It hurts still!

I think I am more intrigued by the reactions of folks you are trying to interview than the topics themselves. :D
I will be interested to see what your experience is like on an RP server. I have found those to be very friendly to "Anyone able to answer a few questions about..." requests in General Chat.

I had a lvl 15 tauren druid on Gnomeregan and it was simply awful. The horde didn't act like any of the other horde-side servers i'd ever been on. They were rude, uncooperative, and basically made the game experience very poor. I'm sorry you went to that server.
I've had good experiences on Firetree(alliance), Daggerspine (horde) and Black Dragonflight (both sides).

i think he was sent there on purpose. lol

@ Morianna & Ben1778 - There were a couple of nice people, who made the article possible. But hey, now I get to see how the other servers live!
@ John - He? O.o
