Phat Loot Phriday: Primal Mooncloth Bag
This is it. If you want to hold your stuff, ain't nothing better than this. The only thing is, the mats might drive you up a wall first.Name: Primal Mooncloth Bag
Type: Bag
Abilities:
- It's a whopping 20-slot bag, which is the biggest in the game. There are a few bigger ones out there-- in fact, quite a few. But those are all specialty bags, and this one will hold whatever you want in it.
- If you want to hold stuff-- a lot of stuff-- this is what you need.
So before you even start, you'll need a tailor (preferably Mooncloth specced), leveled all the way up to 375. There are a few of those around, and if your guild is raiding endgame, you should have at least one, so that's not too hard. But to make this bag (the pattern is available from the trainer in the Lower City of Shattrath), you'll need four Netherweb Spider Silk and eight (yes, eight) Primal Mooncloth.
The spider silk ain't no thing-- you can grab it from the spiders in Terrokar or even the spiders in the animal wing of Karazhan if you want. But the Mooncloth is the kiler. For each Mooncloth, your tailor has to have one bolt of Imbued Netherweave, one Primal Life, and one Primal Water. For a bolt of Imbued Netherweave, you need 3 Netherweave bolts and two Arcane Dusts (available from an Enchanter). And for a bolt of Netherweave, you need 6 Netherweave cloths.
But oh wait, there's more. For a Primal Life and a Primal Water, you need 10 each of Motes of Life and Water (that drop from plants and earth elementals in Zangarmarsh, Nagrand, and elsewhere). All total, then, you'll need 144 Netherweave cloths, 16 Arcane Dusts, and 80 Motes each of Life and Water. Not anywhere near impossible, but that's a good few hours of farming, for sure. A Mooncloth tailor produces two Mooncloths per click, so with an MC tailor you can actually half those mats. But that's still a lot to find.
And then there's the cooldowns. Mooncloth making actually has a four day cooldown on it-- each tailor can only make one Mooncloth (or two if specced right) every four days. So not only do you have to wait, but if your tailor is backed up with other orders, it could take even longer than two weeks to get your Mooncloth from them. Of course there's ways around this (use four different tailors and you can get it done faster), but getting some tailors to work for you is harder than farming those Motes sometimes.
Enough work for you? But farm all that stuff, hook up with a tailor (or four), and the 20 slot bag can be yours. Now for the other three bag slots...
Getting Rid of It: Are you crazy? After all that hard work? These are BoE, so they can sometimes be seen on the AH, for up to (and upwards of) 500-1000g. Otherwise, if you've already used it, and happen to have all your bag slots full of these, a vendor will give you 5g for it. What a waste.

It made me smile to see this as the Phat Loot of the week, because I was just gifted one yesterday. :) Only 6 more to go for character and bank slots!

Every four days, a mooncloth-specced tailor can make 2 mooncloth -- plus 1 spellcloth and 1 shadowcloth, each of which she trades to another tailor for primal mooncloth. That's just 2 two-day cooldowns, or just over a week. Not bad for such a big bag, really, especially if you can catch two tailors with available cooldowns. Voila!
Lisa Poisso Jun 29th 2007 4:42PM
Err, that's two *four*-day cooldowns ... Quick typing FTL!

@1 I could be completely misunderstanding what you're saying, so i say this with no snootyness, but wouldn't it be cheaper and give you more space to just buy a 4th bank slot and put a 16 slot bag in it or something?
Jason Jun 29th 2007 5:00PM
Overall, it's not bad. As Lisa points out, you can make Spellcloth and Shadowcloth along side it every two days, provided you have the mats handy You can generally trade those away to smart tailors of that spec, as they're turning out extra mooncloth.
So, yea. Every 4 days, you should be getting 4 mooncloth, if you're able to find a party willing to barter with you.

The extra bag space is always nice, but I'd recommend just sticking with 18-slot Imbued Netherweave Bags. On my server, they go for about 40g, which is quite reasonable.
Of course, that extra space will pay for itself in time if you're one of those people who pick up EVERYTHING to sell later, like me. If I've learned anything from WoW, it's that every little bit helps.
I was lucky - I stepped into Outland with an Onyxia Hide Backpack (18), a Panther Hide Sack (18), and an Argent Dawn Supply Bag (18), as well as a Traveler's Bag (16) for each remaining slot and bank slot.
Can't wait to get my tailor up to Mooncloth-making levels.

@4, I'm kind of a packrat, so I already have all my bank slots filled (Imbued Netherweave plus one Reinforced Mining Bag and one Bag of Jewels) as well as stuff on alts.
Getting all Primal Mooncloth Bags isn't the most important thing, obviously, and I'm certainly not going to pay market prices for them, but getting guildies to make them gradually will be manageable. :)

Dear Blizzard:
If I give 20 Morrrowgrain, 40 Arcane Dust, 2 Badge of Justice, and 1 Void Crystal to Mathengryl Bearwalker, can I get a 28-slot "Druid Bag" for leather gear only?
Kthxbye

Druid, lots of armor, carrying bag space is important. I have 4 of these, made the guild priests cry though I had them made before they finished thier Primal Mooncloth Sets :P ...but putting P.M.B in the bank is a bit excessive, just sell stuff or use bank alts.
Also the more free bag space you have while running everywhere, the more loot/trash you can carry per haul. :P

What is that on the front of the bag? A snake? Is that a snake crawling out of the front of the bag?
Durrill Jun 30th 2007 11:54AM
I have NEVER been able to sell these at your low end (500g). I have 3 mooncloth specialists pumping out their cloth. This allows me to make ~6 bags a month. Often I am the ONLY person putting one up on the AH, they never sell. Along with several Transmutation specialists making Shadow->Water and Earth->Water. All I have to do is farm primal life and netherweb silk. I was convinced that this was a money making machine. Evidently not, since all its done is cost me my time. At least a dozen of my friends are at 2-3 bags each.
Monistatus Jun 30th 2007 12:04PM
@11
Yes, there are bigger bags - but they're profession bags (ie. Herb-gathering, Mining, et al.)
Monistatus Jun 30th 2007 12:06PM
@12 Yeah, there's no way I'd pay 500g for an extra 2 slots when I can get by just fine on a 35-40G Imbued Netherweave.
Nice to have, but that G is better spent elsewhere.

Couldn't sell on Nordrassil if my life depended on it, I'll even link it in trade for 300g, where immediately I get called an asshole and some dickhead says they go for 35g on his old server. Seriously what kind of crack are ppl smoking, do they even understand what it takes to make one of these bad boys, I have 4 Primal Mooncloth Bags on my paladin and having to carry tanking, healing and dps gear at all times as well as consumables and my sleepy willy I end up with about 8 slots left over to go farming and such with. Banks full of resist gear and enchanting mats these bags are the best boe in the game!
