Breakfast topic: Legendary bad pulls

Every raider or dungeon crawler knows the heart-stopping terror of awful pulls -- the shaman who accidentally pulls Vael before the raid is buffed, the tank who disconnects as the hunter shoots the boss, and, of course, the newbie on Ragnaros who thinks it would be a wonderful idea to talk to this Majordomo guy. There's a nice thread in the Raids & Dungeons forum about the worst things to hear before pulling. Highlights include:
- "Why are we in combat?"
- "I wanted to see if I could." (From a hunter who shot Al'ar.)
- "What's the worst that can happen?"
- "Why isn't the MT wearing pants?"
- "Don't worry, I saw a video of this fight on Youtube."
- "The living are here!" (From the Eye of Naxxramas, wiping Stratholme groups since 2004.)
My favorite bad pull was when my guild was still learning early Blackwing Lair. We had a notoriously temperamental main tank and raid leader, and we had wiped several times on Razorgore already that night. So his patience was wearing thin as we lined up for the pull. We buffed, prepared, and as he was re-explaining the strat ... an arrow comes out of nowhere and goes flying into the orb controller. The rest of the strat was yelled out as everyone scrambled to kill the guards and then get to our corners. Amazingly, we killed Razorgore, and it was only after the loot was handed out that one of our hunters admitted that he was playing WoW with his infant daughter on his lap. She had reached out and pressed one of his hotkeys while he had Razorgore targeted.
What's your favorite bad pull?

My favourite one was right in front of Aran.
First time we were facing him.
When we were buffing everyone I asked our best hunter (I'm a mage): what's the mana cost of the silencing shot to see whether it was worth trying & using if it worked.
While waiting for the mana cost... He actually shot the silencing shot, pulling aran, and introducing us for our first wipe of a long series.
But it was definitely our funniest wipe!!

Me with my warlock. Blackrock for the very first time. A room with like six smaller, mob-filled rooms around it ...
Tank: "OK, ready".
And just as the tank pulls ... I take a step back ... into a room full of mobs. Panic, run forward - into the next room full of mobs.
Two of my guildies STILL keep hassling me about that one :)

Another "Whoops, I think that was me" wipe:
Strat with 70s.
"Hey, warlock: do some AE k?"
Seed of Corruption will, when the tick runs out, explode and hit all enemies in a globe around that mob. Not a circle. A globe.
That means? In Strat, if you use SoC early on, you'll pull the cellar mobs who'll immediately come running to you (along with every single other mob along the way) ...
Turns out they'd wanted a simple old-fashioned FIRE AE ... in a CIRCLE around the target :-)

A week after our first successful Majordomo killing, an enterprising young Warlock recruit decided he was going to get a closer look at Mr. Executus. He fired up his Eye of Kilrogg and proceeded to walk it on over to the boss and his circle of friends. Unfortunately, this was also a patch day and they had issued a stealth nerf to the Eye, removing the stealthing effect (to counter the use of Mr. Kilrogg's Eye to solo pull Rajaxx in AQ20). We made a valiant effort, but the lack of preparation and relative inexperience proved too much for our young guild. This technique became something of a guild joke later, as many of our boss pulls in BWL and AQ40 came courtesy of our glowing green spherical friend.

omg... I thought I only happend to me, My guild had the exactly same pull in razorgore with the difference that the hunter pressed the auto shot by mistake and with all yell around we manage to kill him, it was awesome...
I think the most funniest times I had in a dungeon, since rfc, was when a bad pull happen and we survive, even if it is a one man stand.

There's the classic "falling off the bridge" Golemagg pull in MC, but my favorite has to be the warlock who pulled Onyxia with the Eye of Kilrogg from the entrance while we were getting ready to start.
We all just ended up in combat and Ony teleported people into her lair and killing them. When we figured out what was going on it was a mad dash to the exit. Fun stuff.

When i was playing my lock and runnin SM. we got to a pull in which i died nad as i was runnin back i noticed the ones in the beginning had respawned. Well, i told them i couldnt get through and needed them to come back and help me, they said "ok" and i told them ill wait. Well, to amuse myself i summoned my eye of kilrogg and proceeded to run it through SM to my team mates. Now i knew it would draw aggro but i didnt know the enemies in SM would follow u till u left the instance. So to my surprise after reaching my team mates i had the entire first part of SM tailing me and they immediately aggroed my party members =P.....All i could say was "I didnt know they'd follow me that far."

Ah, good old Marudon. Through my leveling I never took too much advantage of instances, but I would do them occasionally with guildies or friends, so basically I didn't know much about the mob dynamics in an instance. So, the first time I went into Marudon, we're going through the instance, but trying to do it fairly quickly, skipping groups of mobs as we can. Well, we got to the ramps and decided to jump instead of following them down. But wait... there's a group of mobs there. Well, why don't we agro them and have them come up the ramps? Sure! Good idea.... *pull* *wait* OH MY GOD! THEY ARE ALL COMING! RUN! *hack* *splat* *dead*. I laughed about that through the entire instance. To this day that is my favorite wipe, never to be topped.

People loving to "Bang the Gong" in ZG and summoning the Panther Boss.

My favorite of recent ... Maiden of Virtue.
Our first Kara run we must have wiped on that *#^% at least 30 times (after spending close to 6 hours on Moroes. Some of us were getting tired and replacements were being filtered in here and there. However, our MT, priest, myself (druid), and two mages were there from the start (weekend raid started at like 9AM =( )
The first time we got to her, we found out how far we could go into the room as she wiped us before we half of us got down the hallway. Near 30 attemtps later, we're buffing up at the pillars and MT is going over our strat for the fight after a summon and regroup ...
MT: "Ok [new guys], this ^%# has a *#^#% hu ...
Maiden of Virtue: "Cast our your corrupt thoughts."
MT: ... "aggro radius watch you ... *#%*%!!!"
MT: "Spread out ... new guys ... do ... whatever!!!!"
Amazingly, we melted her face off ... still is remains as one of our fastest Maiden kills (yes, we have some guild nerd that tracks that crap). It was the first try we were really were not prepared for and sadly the new guys still in a majority of greens =/. She dropped the only hammer we've seen from her in countless kills ... our healers have pretty much given up on that one and focused hope that Prince is a little more generous with the healing loot.
Outside of that, pre-BC pulls we're pretty fun (the greatest of all done by Jenkins, Leroy), but almost always ended in a wipe and were not as forgiving as BC pulls. We had a lot of bad pulls in ZG when everyone was learning to 20man ... by the time MC we rolled into MC/BWL people knew better.

One mage (no names) wanding Grobbulus while we were fighting trash before Patchwerk. Even Patchwerk wanted to play with us!
koey Jul 5th 2007 9:23AM
Did you know a snowball could aggro the Spider Boss in AQ20? Neither did we? :)
However, the greatest bad pull ever was during a clear of BWL. We were clearing trash leading up to the Broodlord and somehow managed to pull every boss left in the instance up to, and including, Chromaggus. To see all those drakes and the big ugly dog bearing down on us was hilarious.

Ok, so who knew that casting 'Hunters Mark' on one of the Giants (I forget what they are called, it's been so long since I was in MC) at the beginning of Molten Core would pull them? Not me. :)
Our guild was taking an unusually long time to get started one night and several of us were getting bored. One guy kept running up close to see how far he could get before he aggro'd. He'd pull the two giants and we'd all have to run out.
One time, he was talking to me in chat and mentioned something about one of them. I hit it with Hunter's Mark and said "This one?" and it aggro'd him!
Whoops.

Right before High King:
"Crap, I SSed the rogue!"
"It's ok, he always dies."
---
"I'm frapsing this."
---
"This guy is a loot pinata."

It wasn't a pull, per se, but it was hilarious.
My lvl 65 Pally husband said he'd take my level 30 rogue self through Gnomer just for fun. Neither of us had ever been there and knew nothing about the place.
We got to the deeper levels and were spotted by one of the alarmbots. We didn't realize that it would aggro and bring every remaining mob in the place. They came from everywhere.
Once we realized the extent of the mobs after us my hubby says to me "vanish", which I did pronto. Then I got to see him go down in a blaze of glory valiantly taking down as many as he could. You couldn't even see him under all that mass of mob. It was a sight to behold. He took down quite a few before he ran out of mana and health.
I just about died laughing.

I feel for the player whose daughter pulled Razorgore. While it has yet to happen in an instance or raid, my habit of letting my 2 year old daughter sit on my lap and watch me play "monkeys" (Don't ask, she has this thing about monkeys, and apparently my Tauren warrior looks like one) has gotten me into quite a few tight spots. The Yeti cave in Hillsbrad was probably the best. She took advantage of my momentary distraction to hit the arrow keys and drop me off the ledge into the waiting arms of my new furry friends... guess what happened next... yep, corpse run time.

First time my guild was in MC. We had only 23 people online, but we decided to give it a shot anyways. Surprisingly (even with few people, little experience and poor equipment) we were managing to take Lucrifron down quite easily - everyone was practically cheering on Vent, when suddenly... a pack of angry imps shows up and toasts the entire raid. While we were all trying to figure what happened, we had this guy saying "sorry, I got too close to the imps room". It was our guild leader.
Fun times :)

A group of my guild and I were farming Schlo for rep. (Okay I was going in to do the quests) There were 3 70's, and myself and a warlock in our low 60's. We got through the Library and then got to the big room with the little undead groups. The 70 warlock in the party dropped a seed of corruption and aggroed the rest of the instance...Twice. We finally realized what was going on and he stopped using it.
Timatah Jul 5th 2007 9:57AM
In Scholo we were sailing through rather nicely untill we came to Lorekeeper Polkeit's room... y'know.. the "Thriller" room chalk full of zombies and ghouls... well we were with a Mage that'd never been there and he asked how the fight went... somebody said "you AoE everything in the room, then we pull the boss" He then proceeded to AoE then entire room.... simultaneously... Funniest wipe I've ever been though...
