Breakfast Topic: Casting the WoW movie
I have to admit, this one caught me by surprise, but with the continuing fashion of adding "murloc" into every possible movie title available (this is especially funny with James Bond films, IMO -- "The Murloc who Loved Me", "Live and Let Murloc" but I digress...) I suppose it was the next progression of silly things to overhear in /guildchat, or in the /trade channel late at night.
As rumors of the WoW movie travel around, people are talking about who would be the perfect casting choices for the various characters that they might present if they're touching upon the lore in World of Warcraft. As you can see from the image above, one of the people I heard suggested was Reese Witherspoon, cast as the powerful but somehwat naive Jaina Proudmoore. I've heard a lot of other interesting choices, but rather than bogging down this post with the ones I overheard, I figured I'd toss this one out and see what you all thought. If they do a live-action film based on the Warcraft universe, who would you pick for the roles, and why? For that matter, what race and class do you think some of your favorite stars would be if they were cast -- but just as non-lore characters? (And a bonus cookie* if you can name -- and justify -- which star would make the best murloc!)

The murloc would of course be played by Andy Serkis in a motion-capture suit (just like he did for Gollum and King Kong).

If its live attack then i have my doubts about it, they probaly turn it into 300 again. they should have kept it as CGI. This movie could turn out to be quite Sh*t

Well, seeing as how Murlocs have the racial ability to draw a violent rage out of me from no where, it's only fitting that all Murlocs be voiced and acted by Rachael Ray.

I am really afraid of this movie ever going into production. A large majority of the people I talk to in the game never played Warcraft 3 which was chock full of story and lore. Instead they play hours and hours a day and really have no clue as to what the story is.
They whine about playing on PVE servers and horde and alliance should fight, and give me blank stares when I explain there was a truce between horde and alliance after WC3.
So this movie will come out and the kiddies who play for "stats" and not lore will whine about how come the horde and alliance are not fighting or they hope somebody yells "pwned" somewhere.

I think fat man-boobs Tom Cruise should play a Vicious OwlBeast
Henry Rollins as Thrall (WOOT!)
Alec Baldwin is an actual warlock, so... he should be in it

Best murloc ever: Ben Stiller. He already has the pouchy lips, and if they staple his ears back under a skull cap he won't even need a lot of makeup.

Steve Buscemi as a Murloc for sure!

Ashley Angel (of O-Town fame - remember them? Neither do I) as Kael'Thas Sunstrider. It's stupid enough to work, especially after seeing Azeroth Super Villains Pt. 2.

Nah. You'll get your knickers in a twist playing whack-a-lore looking for errors. It's a game and that the lore doesn't suck is a near miraculous bonus. If you'd played the original
Warcraft when it came out--I did--you'd know it had a pitiful story. Orcs, humans, fighting, got it.
Not looking forward to a movie because it's likely to be a bad movie. If it is a quality film
I'll be thrilled and send you one gold for every lore error you find. Call me on it on this site, I'll pay up. Make a list.

John Leguizamo is a shoe in as a Murloc. LOL.
Falgorn Jul 7th 2007 12:43PM
Roy Schneider was a Wall street Banker. Then one day his whole world got turned upside down and now...
He's a Murlock...
Rated pg 13
Durp de durp de durp de durp de durp
Oh and Morgan Freeman as Kairn Thunderhoof, Matt Damon as Arthas and Rosy O'Donnell as C'thun.

Warcraft 1 did not have a story yes I remember playing it on a DOS/win95 box. They did add a Beyond the Dark Portal expansion and WC2 expanded the story but many consider WC3 best from a "lore" point of view because it expanded the story line immensly.
I do not nit pick about "lore" just don't want to the movie to suck too badly.

12: Agreed that Rob (not Roy) Schneider would make the best Murloc.
Anyway, here's who I would cast:
Thrall: Sean Connery
Jaina: Helen Hunt
Malfurion: Ben Stiller
Illidan: Eddie Murphy
Murlocs: Rob Schneider, John Leziguiamo (sorry if misspelled),
Tyrande: J-Lo
Cairne Bloodhoof: Arnold Schwarzenegger
Kil'Jaeden: Alan Rickman
Sargeras: Hugo Weaving
Khadgar: Samuel L Jackson
Lady Vashj: Rosie O'Donnell
Kael'thas: Eddie Murphy
Sylvanas: The Olsen Twins
Magni Bronzebeard: Gary Coleman
Arthas: Eddie Murphy
Grom Hellscream: Eddie Murphy
Medivh: Hugh Jackman
Everyone else: Eddie Murphy
Best cast ever, amirite?
Rich Jul 7th 2007 1:22PM
Oh and Bruce Willis as every Alliance soldier...Clone Wars style.
Chris Anthony Jul 7th 2007 2:41PM
Sadly, my choice for Murloc, Peter Lorre, is dead. But given that these castings are strictly hypothetical anyway... ;)

If WoW was ever made into a movie I hope I am ganked by the Horde and never resurrected again!

@17: They ARE making a movie. Really.
First, I don't think the movie will take place during the same time period as the one that WoW takes place in. It would be stupid of them to start at the "end". They need to tell where the Orcs come from, what the Burning Legion is, why the two sides fight each other, etc.
So I think trying to come up with an actress to play Jaina is a bit premature. And it certainly shouldn't be Reese. Jaina needs to be played by someone who can do "smart".
We should really be trying to think of who should play Lothar, Medivh, Gul'dan, Llane, Doomhammer, Garona, Blackhand, Khadgar, Durotan, and so on.
Ben Jul 7th 2007 5:14PM
Patrick Stewart (Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek:TNG for the less informed) cast as Khadgar. Hands down!
The Desolate One Jul 7th 2007 8:43PM
Not Greasy Witherspoon,,,,,,that broad couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag, not to mention she is one egotistical class A biotch.
