WoW Moviewatch: How the spammers did it
We covered the story of the dead goldspam gnomes in Ironforge the other day, but now, direct from Alice (complete with Benny Hill accompaniment), here's video footage of exactly how it was done. How incredibly strange.
As far as anyone can figure out, they created these gnomes using a bot, and then used a client-side teleport hack to put them in exactly the right place above the Ironforge floor. They also had to kill them somehow of course, but who knows how that was done. Did they send newly created gnomes out to the trolls in the lowbie area (because most starter mobs are actually neutral, so won't attack normally), and then wait until right as they died to teleport them away? If you went to the starting area while this was happening, would you see little gnomes disappearing? As I said: how extremely strange.
Update: You commenters are so smart-- that's why we keep you around. Jesse and hookkick80 instantly recognized that they probably die from the fall damage after the teleport.

This is one of those things that's so unique, let's hope it stays that way, and outlandish it would have been really cool to see.

They died from the fall imo.

I think I have now permanently associated Ironforge with the Benny Hill song.
That's not really a bad thing; it's my ringtone.

Oh, good call Jesse. That makes sense.

It was the fall. If you were there, you can hear the horrifying sound of a gnome's last breath as they hit the cold hard stone... Oh, the horror!

Happened today on Bloodhoof-EU but they didn't die from the fall, they just disappeared. perhaps Blizzard have done something in the last patch to avoid this.

Maybe Mike will edit the post to reflect that they died from Fall Damage, and not the random speculation on trolls attacking them somehow.

A bit off-topic but how is corpse-graffiti done? I sometimes see dead gnomes or night elves in IF with silly names like 'mailboxgnome' or 'iloveshauna' (which resulted in one named 'nowaimetoo' the next day right next to it). How do you 'self-kill' yourself in your own faction's city? (teleport hacks notwithstanding)

Easy. Aggro Gamon or that CE representative near the sky tower.

How is it done in Alliance cities?

a level 1 could use a dark rune and that would auto kill them.

I watched the video and I still don't see how they were able to do this.
As far as I can tell, The Teleport Hack does not allow for altitude alterations...
I don't understand it, but however they did it, it was an ingenius way to advertise...the FIRST TIME.

Well that makes sense, thanks Antzarmy.

They did the same thing on Agamaggan with orcs in front of Orgrimmar.

I would like to point out that this video was likely made by a guy participating in the wowmine.com contest to win free gold.
I know how people hate to support gold selling, so I thought I would bring it up. :)

When I saw this happening on Norgannon on July 4, I just assumed that it was a GM having some fun while the bosses were on vacation. They weren't able to spell anything out before they were stopped, so it wasn't until the next day that I found out what was actually happening.
