Breakfast Topic: W... w.... warlocks?
I'm shivering in my boots as I type this post. I quiver in fear at the very mention of warlocks. My knees are shaking, my nose is dribbling, and my eyes are getting teary at the mere thought of seeing a warlock today, walking around with one of those spooky infernals or... *gulp*... succubi.Okay not really. But you've got to admit, with sooo many people complaining about how overpowered warlocks are, that's got to amount to a lot of fear! But fortunately for warlocks, fear is what they're all about. Warlocks seem to just soak it up when people cringe at the sight of them or complain about how overpowered they are.
Still, there are plenty of chances to complain in other places. If you'd like to complain about warlocks today, by all means start a warlock of your own so that you can really get the inside scoop on what exactly should be changed! But today, which is Warlock Day, in our very last breakfast topic about class encouragement, let's not complain -- let's tell all those warlocks out there: whether you are a warlock, play with one, or fight against them in PvP, what is it you love and fear about them?

I love when Warlock fears my frost mage - then I can wait till I'm right at the edge of my Frostbolt range, pop Will of the Forsaken, and rain chilly destructionz from afar. :-D

DoTs! Both love and Hate

I love duelling a warlock as a Shadow Priest- they tend to be really intense fights! I've won some, lost some, but seen enough of Warlocks to make me want to roll my own!
Warlocks are overpowered but in my opinion nothing really needs to change- just l2dispel.

Fear should just be removed from the game.
It's underpowered in PvE, overpowered in PvP.
Give Warlocks some other kind of CC that breaks on Damage like every other class has.
No matter how many times they nerf it, it will always be overpowered to be able to damage a player who can't control their character for x seconds. Unless they make it 2 second duration (I think it's down to 10 now?) In which case why bother having it at all?
The fear mechanic itself should really be entirely removed from the game. It's retarded in PvP, and it's retarded in PvE because only 1 faction can deal with it (hello draenei/dwarf priests).
Blizzard are just pig-headed on this. Every single patch involves nerfs/changes to fear/horror mechanics. They should just give up, admit that the mechanic is fundamentally flawed, and try something else.

Though I walk through the valley of WSG, I fear no Warlock.
In fact I seek out the clothies with my 19 twink Hunter. Send in my Rake and do some dmg! Sure, when it's a lock I walk away hoping the dots don't finish me off even after they're already dead, but that's part of the game.
I'm not sure if they're "overpowered." But, I will say this, my 11 yr old son has a lock now and is actually enjoying lvling alone. "Watch this Dad... The mobs are dropping all over the place." He may even play this one long enough to get a mount. hehehe

Fear is the foil to stun lock. So, in my mind Warlock and rogues are natural enemies. If a rogue can stun lock a warlock, the warlock should have a chance to keep him away if he manages to see the rogue. It's a ying yang thing.
Warlocks are powerful only if the fight lasts. Getting the DOTs on the target takes upwards of 5 seconds (there is substantial time between instant cast spells, about one second, most non-casters don't realize this).
What do I love about warlocks? Versatility. They can DPS if they want, and, with the felguard, they can essentially Tank. They can CC, and, with a destruction spec, they have burst DPS.
What do I hate about warlocks? All the whining about overpowered. I think all classes have strengths and weaknesses. Warlocks are no different. Get a stun lock on one, or a couple of DPS shots, and it's an easy kill.

My main is a warlock but i disagree that warlocks are soo much OP atm, if you play it right (Fact) there are 18 ways to become immune, 32 ways to resist fear,
2.2, fears getting even more nurfed with a 10 second limit in PvP, and our DoT's are getting screwed over by resilence

As a Priest, you know why I love 'locks?
Their buff that increases healing by 20% means that, for the cost of a Renew, I get some sick DPS -and- CC or a tank at my side. And I will never, EVER, pull aggro. ;-)
Three-clothie groups for the extreme win.

As a warrior, I absolutely loathe warlocks in PVP.
(Them)Fear, DoT, DoT, Fear, DoT, DoT...
(Me) Release Spirit?...

I agree that Locks are not overpowered cause without fear they would have no chance to live with the time it takes for DOTs to tick down, pulling aggro from their pets unto them and no healing ability outside that life drain spell they would easily become a severely underpowered class. The combination of stuns and trinkets to take off fear would keep Lock skeletons piling up. Locks are fun to fight and group with ^-^ and for beginners to WoW its a nice way to experince it without getting frustrated.

Curse of Elements!
Much love from me! :)

Cookies (healthstones)! They're tasty, easy to cook in large quantities, and a great source of vitamin S.
S is for soul, of course. :)
Seriously though, as a healer Warlocks are one of my favorite DPS classes. They're highly self sufficient, and when they do need a heal, they get more out of it thanks to Fel Armor. Its just nifty seeing these giant heals.

I love DOTing in battlegrounds. As a cloth wearer, there's something very satisfying in taking a suicide run into a crowd, insta-DOTing everyone, and continuing to do serious damage even when I'm dead. Maybe they kill me, but I'm taking a lot of them down with me.

Two words.
Wipe Prevention.
Another four words:
In AV: "Summon pls!"
I'm thinking of writing a Warlock haiku.

/e feels the healer love.
As an Affliction 'lock, I love walking away from fighting 2 mobs at a time with full mana/health. OP? Sure! It means you'll think twice about running blithely past me, 'cause if I'm in a bad mood, that means you'll have 3 curses stacked on you as you ride away.

If you cant beat them, join them.
Sylythn Jul 13th 2007 10:21AM
I love that the first time, since speccing affliction at 60, that I ever ran out of mana was on the Illhoof fight...man that was fun - and shocked the hell out of me that I was actually having mana issues.

@15
You couldnt have said it better. the fact that even if that rogue kills me i know that it will be the last one that he kill before a trip to the healer.
@8
as a UD lock, WotF and deathcoil. that will end a rogues stunlock on you. now for the dot, dot, fear.
