Warrior hits 70 without going to Outlands

Monhay of Dunemaul-EU writes to us with a rather interesting story about a guildmate of his. According to Monhay, Oasie, an undead warrior in Rigor Mortis, decided that he wanted to level up to 70 without ever setting foot in Outlands.
He chose to grind on the level 60ish mobs available in the game, from Winterspring to Silithus to the Plaguelands. When those stopped giving experience, he headed to the mobs in front of Karazhan and running the Caverns of Time: Old Hillsbrad instance. To upgrade his gear, he PVPed and surfed the auction house. At 4:07 AM his time this Friday, he walked through the Dark Portal for the first time.
Most people probably have the same question right now as I do: Why the heck would you do this? Most of us found it painful enough to get through levels 20-58 of post-BC alts, knowing that Outland was there with its tantalizing quest rewards and good experience. I can't imagine buying the expansion and waiting six freaking months to see any of the content. But Monhay said that Oasie had a very good reason: he heard how much money you got for doing Outland quests at 70, and wanted that money to buy his sister's epic riding skill. Awww.
What do you think of this story?

Could've made more money by hitting Outlands at 58 and farming. It's a sweet story, but a little research would've made it unnecessary.

or you could make 5000g in about 2 weeks from mining and doing daily quests...

Awesome that he had the dedication, patience and willpower to do this. I think he’s totally nuts but Monhay If you are reading this. GRATS, and don’t let Blizzard filter your gold when you help your sister with her mount.

You say he wanted the Outland quest money to get his sister a mount - well at level 70, he's gonna rip through quests pretty darn quick :D
Quite an achievement.

Like @2 said, He could have gone to outlands and killed all the stuff without doing the quests. However, i'm sure part of the reason was to just see if he could.

Oftentimes the effort counts more than the results.

Hats off to Oasie! Grats! I really would not have thought it was possible!

Chances are he's probably had other characters in the Outlands. I think part of it is like the Melee Hunter. Its something different to do.

Its cool, and grats that he managed such a feat, but he could've just grinded mobs and instances from 58-70 in outlands, and then done the quests after. I know many people that did that, with great results.
I think the better reasoning for such an action would be "I was bored and wanted to see if I could do it," because the questing for money thing could've still been accomplished while grinding in outlands.

So sweet ^^

Aww!
Speaking as a long-time doer of apparently stupid things that the game wasn't designed for, I salute him.

I'd agree if, as some of the other posters have written, he was doing it for the sake of being able to say "hey y'all, check this out." I'm all for people doing goofy shit in-game just to see if they can. Speed runners, melee hunters, the guy leveling 1-70 naked, the guy who got to exalted with every non-mutually exclusive faction in the game - all those guys are cool in my book. So someone wanting to try leveling to 70 without setting foot into the Outlands - that's great.
But if, as the article seems to state, his sole purpose in doing this was to help his sister get her mount, it would've been much faster and easier for him to just go the traditional route to 70.
Wanting to make money to help your sister out - that's a sweet thing to do. The article speaks, I think, to a basic good nature. But I don't think that the method in which he did level adds any value to the end result.

I had this idea for a few months, but never had the nerve. And I'd had the idea to level by killing mobs in Azeroth instances, since they get higher level. But I guess his way is better. I bet it was tough getting closer to 66, when all the Winterspring/Silithus/EPL mobs got very green, and gave crap xp.

I thought this guy was doing a cool stunt, like naked leveler, or melee hunter, but when I read the reason, well, he just became a dumbass.
Baluki Jul 13th 2007 12:38PM
Well, if he really wants to do it that way, why stop him? I'm guessing that he has already gotten another character to 70 in Outland...why buy the expansion if you're not going to see most of it?
I must nitpick though...if he PvPs, does that mean he also avoided Eye of the Storm and the Arenas? EotS, RoT, and CoB are all technically located in Outland.
Fryn Jul 13th 2007 1:16PM
You might think he's silly for it because of his reason, but I bet his sister thinks he's the greatest brother in the world.
Joyd Jul 13th 2007 1:19PM
In any sufficiently easy game, people will find ways to add to the challenge if they like that sort of thing. Speed runs and no-save clears are two classic methods, and this guy found another.
There's quite a bit of 60ish content, although the amount of experience it takes to advance explodes past 60, so it must've taken a lot of dedication.

I have a guild mate who got the money for his epic mount by just doing all the quests in Outland. He doesn't have any professions, doesn't work the AH and didn't get any special, hi-value drops that he could sell. And he even leveled from 60 to 70 at the same time and trained the whole way.

Well, if he really wanted to get her the money with the least amount of effort, he just could have bought the gold. My take on it is:
a) Doing something no one else has done (70 without entering Outlands).
b) The effort is part of the gift.

lol im glad no one has suggested goldsellers as a way to make money.
