Thottbot introduces interface upgrades, new scoring system
I sure thought Thott had given up putting new features on his site (since things haven't changed in so long), but apparently not-- just the other day, he introduced Thottbot 3.10, including a new "scoring system," which is customizable so that you can determine for yourself just which weapons you want.Basically, every item now has a score associated with it, and that score is based on a number of different qualities, including base stats, armor, gem slots, resistances, spells, combat ratings-- anything that you'd ever associate with an ingame item. And then (and here's where it gets really cool), you can even change those score ratings yourself-- if having mp5 on a certain item is hugely important to you as a Shaman, for instance, you can add value to the mp5 stat, which will give those items a higher score. And custom score settings can even be turned into a permalink, which means players can easily trade their own custom scoring sets with each other. Incredibly powerful little feature.
And Thott's added some awesome Javascript features to the listings as well-- you can now customize listed displays of items much more than ever before, and since it's done with AJAX, browsing loads faster as well. Really amazing job.
Now ever since Thottbot and Wowhead moved under the same banner, players have said they wanted them to stay separate. But if this is the kind of thing we're going to be seeing coming out of these sites, bring it on-- I'd love to see the score feature brought into Wowhead's interface, and I'm sure a lot of people would love to use their same scoring profile on both sites to see what kind of information they can dig up.

Meh.
Still sucks compared to Wowhead.
I tried to search for two handed swords to find that I can only search for one-handers! Yay!

Yep, still sucks

I use Wowhead most often, too, but Thottbot still has a couple of advantages. The 'Source' column is one of those. When looking up class skills, Thottbot will tell you if they come from a trainer, book or quest, right on the main listing page. Thottbot will also tell you if a recipe drops or is available at a vendor from the profession recipes page. Maybe Wowhead can't do this because we are technically looking at the results and not the recipes themselves, but it sure is handy.

Awesome change once it works. Currently I can't search using my custom score which seems to be the whole point. I save my score and ... when I look at items they still have the old score. I.e Frozen Shadoweave still tops the charts even though I weighted its stats 0.

A WowAce addon called ItemValue does exactly this and much more, it can add multiple scores to item tooltips that can be based on your own formulas or simple stat value assignments.
It also gives multiple options to compare those scores between items. And make a sum of all your equiped items so you can even compare sets. It even gives options to virtually select and socket gems for items so you can compare items with gems socketed to one with empty sockets, a similar approach for enchants is available but also giving the option to ignore either when calculating a score.

Must have for any theorycrafter!!!

After taking a look at Thottbot's default stat values I think I should point out that these values are outdated and are based on pre-2.0 itemization.
Most up to date estimations (because Blizzard never released a full list) can be found at

I have a spreadsheet I've been using to compare holy priest items. Nothing's perfect but mine is the most complete I've seen by a long shot.
I've converted my scoring system over to Thott. Here's a Thott link for item scoring based on the assumptions: 70 disc/holy with a reasonably likely talent spread incl. 3 points in Meditation, goal is to pump out the most total healing with a bonus for higher heal/second, you use potions frequently, your buffed stats are around int 500 spirit 340 heal 1200 mp5 120, you're a PvE raid healer, you fill gem slots with the blue quality gems, and short fights (1-2 minutes, so +heal is more important and +mp5 less):

Here's scoring for the same assumptions, but long fights (4-9 minutes, so +mp5 is more important and +heal less):
