I agree with @1If you are going to equip the item on that character (not an alt) in the next 1 or 2 levels you can roll NEED.If it's for an alt- it's GREED for you I'm afraid. Bring the alt to the instance if they need it so badly.As for calling dibs, I think it's important to announce up front what loot you are after. But by calling dibs you are not getting first pick of the loot- you are just announcing ahead of time that you intend to roll NEED. If you call dibs and it's something I feel I NEED- that's what i'll be rolling.It can get the debate about the loot item up front and out of the way. There's nothing worse than an item dropping and getting looted while a hammer-and-tongs Boss fight is still going on. The party is about to wipe and you're typing "Umm do you guys mind if I roll NEED on that?"If you say at the beginning that it's what you are after the discussion is done and dusted
