If you can arrange with your group ahead of time that you are looking for something in particular and do they mind if you need it...then that's one thing.But mid-way through an instance to proclaim it as yours...you have no right. You should see the QQ'ing that happens when you play something unconventional, like a kitty druid, a shadow priest, or balance druid, and you roll on the dps gear. How in the world do you get in your head you are more deserving of something over someone else? EVEN if you've ran it 100 times more? Eh, pugs, hate 'em.
