Ask WoW Insider: What pre-BC content did you miss?
Welcome again to your weekly dose of Ask WoW Insider, wherein we publish the questions on your mind for readers to answer. Last week we talked about how to find a good guild, and this week we're waxing nostalgic about some of the pre-BC content that new players might now miss as they're levelling up. Megilion from Crimson Blade on Gorgonnash writes: I just realized recently that, as my main is only level 62 and I didn't hit 60 until after BC came out, there's still a lot of this game that I haven't seen yet. There are several zones I've never been in, as well as many pre-BC raids that I'll likely never experience. I'm curious what experiences, locations, and even quests WoW Insider readers have missed on their road to level 70 that they're eager to get to someday if at all?For those of you who made it to 60 before the expansion, what are some of the highlights of then endgame content that new players might be missing? What are some of the best quests, locations and experiences one might miss when rushing off to Outland in the late 50s?

I feel bad for warlocks who ran Scholo so many times. They really should have increased that drop rate.

When I made my first alt that I seriously started leveling to 70, I told myself that I wouldn't step foot inside Stranglethorn Vale. That forced me to explore other zones and I saw a lot of content that I had missed before. ;-)

The Alliance Blackrock Depths storyline is pretty developed, linking the loss of Magni Bronzebeard's daughter, Onyxia, and Molten Core. All instances that can be ignored now with Outlands out.
Dire Maul is a sprawling dungeon, with multiple quest lines. Who makes an Ogre suit anymore for a tribute run in hopes of getting that elusive purple?
And I managed to make it to 58 without setting foot in either of the Plaguelands, Scholo, or live and undead Strat. So much for the worthiness of Argent Dawn rep, their fantastic caster trinket, and 18 slot bag.

Well, my guild did ZG, AQ20, MC and Ony before TBC. Beyond that, I got to look in BWL and AQ40 where we tried the first trash mobs but didn't get past them. I did get my AQ40 riding bug, though.
I would really like to experience all the raid content I missed and that is why I think Blizz should incorporate some reason or requirement to run those instances in a future expansion. It seems there is too much wasted content as it stands now.

Former endgame content that someone might now miss on the road to 70:
- Dire Maul
- Scholomance
- Stratholme
- the 40-man raids (Molten Core, Black Wing Lair, AQ 40, Naxx)
- the 20-man raids (ZG, AQ 20)
- parts of the Eastern Plaguelands and Winterspring
Pre-BC, I dinged 60 on my main in Winterspring...now, my alt will probably ding it somewhere in HFP. Once you turn 58, why slog through (old) content that gives 500xp a kill and maybe 10 silver, when there's (newer) content in Outlands that will give 800-1000xp a kill and maybe 15-25 silver? If your goal is to move up to 70 as quickly as possible while making money, you'll head to Outlands. If you are a nostalgia nut, or just want to see everything you can, then you'll stay in Azeroth to see those things. But you may not see BWL until you and 6 friends are bored and sporting uber-epics that allow you to 7-man old 40-man content.

I never got to see BWL or AQ40 but other than, I've pretty much seen it all. However, I doubt that I will ever do any of that again.
From now on, I will just do what I have to do to hit 58 and go Outlands.

Probably all the fun that used to be Eastern Plaguelands before the Naxxramas expansion. Turning Light's Hope Chapel into an all out gank fest/PVP battle. All of the deep lore quest chains about the Scarlet Crusade. When the Tier .5 sets were released, that was a fantastic quest chain, even if it was expensive. The 45 minute UD Strat run... Some of those pieces were good compliments to tier 1.
The Ahn'Qiraj world event, while woefully laggy, is another notable experience. Pretty much any world event, though AQ felt more involving than Naxx did.

All the 40 man raids had (some) cool encounters.
I personally loved Twin Emps and Nefarian.
I only did 6 bosses in Naxx, but I know people who cleared it, and I wish I had seen more.

having hit 60 after BC, i missed all the "end-game" raids and dungeons. Though for fun we did AQ20 last friday night with 14 people (most were 70) and it was fun! at least since the 60 encounters are tuned to level 60's and pre-bc gear, you can run them with much less people. Maybe someday they will make heroic versions (as well as flying mounts in azeroth!!!)
Norik Jul 20th 2007 4:06PM
I think that Naxxaramas was the coolest instance that 80% of players never experienced. I've never finished it but I've killed a couple of bosses in there. The reason was that it was released so close to BC that everyone stopped raiding and waited for BC.
Euphorion Jul 20th 2007 4:12PM
On one character or another pre-TBC, I saw pretty much everything except Naxx. But the rogue that I started a few months ago is 64 now, and I'm going to go back to solo/duo most of it at 70. Things like LBRS, Baron runs, and such are fun, but not worth the hassle of trying to get a group together at this point.
It's going to be lots of fun grinding my Timbermaw, Cenarion Circle, and Argent Dawn rep when I go back (after they boost them in the next patch). I dunno, I don't think there's much that people are really missing in Azeroth, just more versions of the same stuff with lame loot.

@10
What? Boost? Explain yourself!
terry Jul 25th 2007 10:24AM
I didn't start playing wow until the week before BC came out. so I might have missed something.
CTDeLude Jul 20th 2007 5:35PM
@ 11 This is the only thing I could find in the patch notes re: rep changes:
World Environment
• The following old-world factions have had their acquisition rate significantly increased: Cenarion Circle, Argent Dawn, Timbermaw Hold.
Not sure if that means scourgestones and the like or what though.
Talitha Jul 20th 2007 5:45PM
I feel sad for alot of the people that missed pre-BC stuff. I dont know how many times I've been crakin' shots with my 62 hunter Alt with his Rhok'Delar. And some hunter comes up to me and goes "WHoa, where'd you get that?" So different from when every hunter knew what Rhok'Delar was....It's weird, Comical, yet weird.

I sent a question in
It was:
How did the term "twink" make it to world of warcraft
http://www.wowwiki.com/Twink
from gay porn
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twink_%28gay_slang%29
RogueJedi86 Jul 20th 2007 7:34PM
Okay meno, but what does that have to do with anything? That's more a dictionary definition than a real question.
Mir Jul 21st 2007 6:32AM
I never got the opportunity to do Scholo, Strat or Dire Maul while levelling. I recently went back with a friend and two-manned all the old 5-mans we'd never done, but it wasn't really the same thing (great fun though). What bothers me more is that I never saw a raid instance until Kara :P
Gief heroic modes!!!
Shadowisp Jul 20th 2007 8:19PM
A guild rogue was asking about gearing up for Kara so I said
Shadowisp "Since Kara has so much undead to start with, the Seal of the Dawn is nice" (http://www.thottbot.com/i13209)
Rogue "Nice, where does that drop"
Shadowisp "Quest chain in Stratholme Undead"
Rogue "Who is Stratholme ?"
Shadowisp "Not a who, a where, its and instance in EPL"
Rogue "Where is EPL ?"
... that went on for a while.
I am Exhalted with Argent Dawn, ran that place countless times at 60, it made me cringe that he didnt know any of the L60 instances.
Bess Jul 22nd 2007 7:52PM
I have a 66 Tauren Druid that has barely ever seen the inside of any instances and I have never been in a raid. I did WC, RFK, and Scarlet Monastery, I just went into a portion of Dire Maul a few days ago.
I just never had much luck with Pick up Groups most of them being frustrating more than fun. I have also never been a part of a guild until last week. So raiding is pretty much right out. But that did mean that I saw pretty much all of Azeroth as I was running around questing and grinding to get my levels.
