Breakfast Topic: Do some things just make you say "Wha...?"
We all know this is just a game. We know this, and it allows us to overlook several things that would really shock us if they happened in real life. And I don't mean strange blue aliens with tentacles coming out of their chins, or meteors of fire raining down on top of us -- these are standard fare fantasy and we look forward to seeing them. No, the things I'm talking about are more like this:
- The big blue alien walks right through you on his way to the bank.
- Meteors rain down on some people standing by the mailbox -- but they don't seem to notice.
- Flying mounts go the same speed up and down, unaffected by gravity.
- A polearm takes up as much space in your bags as 20 bottles of water.
- Creatures you kill just respawn a few minutes later.
- Big spaulders and weapons just pass through your character's head as they move and yet there is no brain damage!
What other odd aspects of this gaming experience would you add to this list?

WHY MUST I KILL VAN CLEEF AGAIN!?
Chira Jul 22nd 2007 8:26AM
Why can't I actually 'loot' bodies so I get all their armor, items and weapons. That would be imba against raid bosses :P

@2: Yeah..."I just killed Ruul the Darkener, I saw him dual-wielding two Thunderfuries and yet he doesn't even drop one for me. What the hell."

While a rogue can pick a pocket, I can find those pockets when they are lying dead on the ground.

I also would like a more "life-like" wow
for example : to let my mount in a stable (it would free my giant bag and force people to choose when and where to put a mount. more choice more strategic)
I do not like people can pass through me, it's not helping to feel the "massive" side of "mmo", of course it helps to go into the bank (I would like the same for my real bank) but it simply destroy all the fun of massive game
and beside, blizzard could add bank/ah/professions tools in all villages to help to spread people. at last Darnassus would be useful.
the same for fight, they could remove or add "bump into people" depending of the size of the instance and the tactics needs.

Like when my hunter puts his gun on his back and it simply disappears. Or when my giant ram shrinks small enough to fit in my pocket. Or when I kill a pvp and cannot loot them. Or when I am collecting horns or eyes or whatever from the things I kill and can't simply cut it off, no I have to wait for it to "drop." Why can't I guide the grif where I'm going so it flies straight there and not take the scenic route every time? How does someone covered in armor jump into water and swim just as easily as they do when they are only wearing their undershorts?
I could list things all day, and I wish some of them would be more like RL. But, I'm glad most of these things happen because this game would be WAY TOO HARD to play otherwise.

I don't know about the brain-damage-thing. The way some people are playing/behaving I can't help believing that although the character works fine, the person in front of the screen has somehow been affected by it.

Boats and zepplins without crews.

No one needs to sleep. Along with that, the citizens of Stormwind need to have 24-hour access to a cheese shop.

Bears drop two-handed swords... explain that.

CoH has a 'body buffer' so that you can't run through each other, or NPCs.
Lemme tell you, it's a PAIN. Especially since the NPCs walk around on predetermined routes and, in a shoving match with a player, they always WIN.
The buffer makes RP kind of a pain, also. In instances, navigating doors or narrow passages with the buffer in place is a headache, especially when there are pets out.
However, it makes (imo) melee combat in CoH MUCH easier to 'see' and manage, because the bad guys can't stack up inside each other -- picking/switching targets is a breeze.
Honestly? For that one reason alone, I'd be willing to deal with the other annoyances -- if it made the mobs unable to stack up inside each other and 'cleaned up' the field of battle a bit, it would be worth it.

When you kill something and loot it then skin it or wait some time the body just disapears into thin air? Is there some invisible Road Kill workers we dont know about?
Ortai Jul 22nd 2007 9:59AM
Oh yeh and yetis carry coinage. Is there some secret yeti 7-11 that we dont know about?

Let's see.
How about the fact that both my Belf Hunter and my Tauren Warrior need 2 hands to wield the same style of sword, even though the Tauren is roughly 6 times the size of the Belf?
Further, along with assorted other odds and ends, my Hunter is carrying something along the lines of 1,200 arrows right now. And yet, I can't see them, and the added weight doesn't seem to slow him down in the slightest. The dude can't weigh more than 120 lbs., but he's carrying 10 times his weight and runs like a gazelle...
Speaking of Hunters, has anyone realized that our pets are idiots? After all, how many times would you let someone send you into battle while they stood back firing arrows before you broke out the punchline of the classic Lone Ranger joke and said, "Screw you, Kemo-Sabe, I'm going home." Don't get me wrong, I love having my cat (Slinky) with me, but he's a moron...

@7 - I feel the 24/7 cheese shop is a necessity.
Dean Jul 22nd 2007 11:09AM
@14: Yeah your pets and all tanks too :)
How about banks charging you more the more stuff you want to keep in them, rather than paying you more interest the more stuff you have in there!

"3. @2: Yeah..."I just killed Ruul the Darkener, I saw him dual-wielding two Thunderfuries and yet he doesn't even drop one for me. What the hell.""
And the opposite is true: You loot the boss and get an uber l33t 2 handed Mace of p0wnage... why wasn't the boss using it on the players?

I kill a couple of farmers in Hillsbrad. Their blood and entrails are strewn everywhere. Uh-oh, here comes a sentry! Quick, hide!
The sentry walks down the path... now he's a sentry, mind you, patrolling and looking for trouble. He delicately steps over the eviscerated bodies and continues on his way, oblivious.
