Guildwatch: A good healer is hard to find

Guildwatch is your weekly look at drama, downed, and recruiting notices from all over the realms, in both the US and the EU. For this week's glance at guild turmoil and triumph, hit the link below. And to send your own info in, just drop a line to wowguildwatch@gmail.com!
DRAMA
- Followup: Wildly Inept Raiding of Earthen Ring-A, which we featured in this space a while ago is apparently back on track and farming Karazhan with three teams plus two teams of alts making strong progress. So I guess it goes to show that an iron hand works well, even if you don't have a Powerpoint presentation.
- A "drama bomb" dropped on Scion of Malfurion-A, according to our tipster: when they decided to switch from rolling on loot to a DKP system, the GM apparently raised a fuss-- because he was late to the raids, the system would have put him at a disadvantage, but when they tried to offer him extra DKP for raidleading, he said he didn't "want anything that favors me." They eventually went with a Loot Council, because, as our tipster says, there's no better way to gear yourself than to be on a loot council, and as it is now, Scion is apparently on the way down-- in a twist on most drama, it's the officers who are being selfish with the gear, not the members.
- We're not ones to report on trolling on the forums, but we'll make an exception this time-- Saudukar from Frostwolf has started up a guild with no apparent intent except to get people angry at him. Good times. And just in case that's not enough (and admittedly it is not much), here's some real trolling by another Frostwolf dude named Sergey. Ah, the forums-- can't live with them, can't delete them all.
- Lilyth writes in with a question about guild drama: what percentage of endgame guilds has officers who abuse their power? Of course that's a hard one to answer, because no one knows what all the guilds are like, but I tend to think the perception of abuse is pretty high, not because all GMs are jerks, but in every large endgame guild, there are so many officers that you're bound to have at least one jerk. People (all of us, myself included) get a big head when given even the smallest amount of power, even if it's nonexistent power in an online videogame. So do people abuse the power? Yes. Does it matter? Nope-- it's just a game. If someone's being a jerk, either kick them out of the guild or /gquit and move on.
- And finally, here's a really good bit of juicy drama: Tinkerfind, the GM of Gamma Terra on EU Khadgar, reportedly ninja-ed the entire guild bank just to get his epic mount. He bought the mount a few days after hitting 70, and right at that time, the guild bank dropped out of sight-- Tink says he just has to update the database, but after many updates, the bank is still missing, and Tink is still flying around at epic mount speed. When they ask him about it, he just shrugs off questions-- our anonymous tipster says it's pretty clear the GM cashed out the bank for mount money.
- Ascension of Whisperwind-A dropped Gruul for a few T4 pieces-- great!
- Modus Operandi on Sentinels-A finished off Netherspite, and with that, Karazhan. And then later in the week they also trounced High King Maulgar, and gave Gruul a very stern look.
- Incendria on Trollbane EU finished off the Prince, and say it's an extra achievement because they are open and casual. Gruul is next!
- Dawn of Damnation on Quel'dorei finished off Kazzak for a server first. They're also LFM-- Warlocks, resto Shamans, resto Druids, and a Rogue and Priest (holy).
- Exalted on Scarlet Crusade-A did something I haven't heard about before-- they were farming Kara for a while when they decided to split up into two groups, and on their first night out, both groups cleared Kara. Not too shabby. High King is also downed, and Gruul is next.
- Ordo Domus on Earthen Ring-A has dropped Gruul. Magtheridon, you're on notice! Away, you mindless parasites! Your blood is theirs!
- Lucidity on Thorium Brotherhood-A finished off Netherspite and Nightbane.
- Relentless of Gorefiend killed off Gruul the Dragon Killer. And don't think the dragons don't appreciate it-- they do.
- Deaths Embrace on Anvilmar-A is farming Kara and Gruul and heading towards SSC and TK. They're looking for a good bear and a shadow Priest or two.
- Tempest on Eldre'thelas-A is seeking Warlocks and caster DPS for Magtheridon and beyond.
- Darkfriends on Boulderfist-H have killed Attumen, Moroes, Maiden, and the Opera Event, and now they want to do more: they're seeking all classes for casual raiding.
- Optimistic Nihilists on Thrall are looking for Druids (Feral and Resto) along with resto Shammies and some Holy Priests. They also think they're a shoo-in for Best Guild Name this week, but they didn't count on us hearing from...
- JFK is AFK on Terenas-A (who, yes, win the Best Guild Name award this week) need raiders to fill out their 25 man group, especially prot Warriors. Bonus: you can go with them to Kara, which they've already got on farm.
- Dreamscape on EU Draenor are looking for Rogues, Warriors, and Druids to fill out a Karazhan group.
- Dawnbreakers on Silver Hand are farming Gruul and Karazhan, and looking for a few more: a healer, a Warlock, and a DPS Warrior and an Enhancement Shaman. Wait-- an Enhancement Shammy? No one's ever asked for that before!
- The Legion of Elders on EU Anachronus are recruiting players 35+ for raids, chat, and lots of fun.
- Souls of the Damned on Rexxar-H is LFM to fill out even more Kara groups, and beyond. They're full up on Rogues and Warriors, but they're especially seeking healers and ranged DPS.

FACT: For *undergeared and rushed* Kara runs, 2 priests are necessary. There simply aren't enough priests to meet the demand of the raiding initiative on most servers.
Karazhan is a bottleneck for casual guilds that want to experience content in greater than 5-man parties.
It's not necessarily about the purples. It's about getting all of us together.

forgot to email guildwatch but:
The Unemployed on the server Illidan has downed Gruul!!! Woot to us! And High King offically on Farm Status!

Everyone needs healers because they are treated like shit by the playerbase. No one wants to put up with that. I have a 70 Holy Pally who will under no circumstances do a PUG. I'd rather not do an instance in that case.

Why don't healers tell the players that give them grief to STFU or healer leaves?
That's what I'd do.

The healer shortage will only become more acute with the release of Warhammer Online - a game where healers must actually interact with fights (read: deal damage) in order to heal well. No more of this stand around at the back of raids and spam 1-2 keys.
Paladins are the worst, since they're billed, advertised, and leveled as a melee class but end up being a ranged caster in endgame. Pathetic.

I really can't believe that you didn't mention in your "Guilds Recruiting" area that "It came from the blog" on Zangarmarsh is always recruiting WoW Insider Readers!!! A very casual guild and a bunch of GREAT people!

Healer shortage was to be expected when it came apparant that offspecs for the primary healer classes will be viable.
There is a shortage but there is none of the old L60 hatred for Ferals, Moonkins, Shadow Priests etc (or just less hatred if your so inclined to hatre everything and everyone :P)

Optimistic Nihilits is way better than JFK is AFK.

Blame blizzard, main healer are paladins / druid now
blibli forgot Priest in the "official" main healer place, more aggro, less mana regen, flash heal poor efficient, but priest still usefull in group raid, just know, its 1 shadow, 1 holy, or less... 2 shadow...
kinoki Jul 25th 2007 6:15AM
The problem is not to find a good healer as much as putting up with too many bad dpsers. The lack of progress almost always comes from having to many noob huntards and rouges (misspelled to prove a point) that simply cannot play their classes properly.

We just did Karazhan yesterday with no priest at all (9th week of this raid). Me (Pally) and a shaman were healing, and a feral druid for those few times were we think we need three (Aran, Prince, Illhoof). Cleared all (except animal boss) in ~ 5 hours. Equip level is Karazhan or less - group setup is (sorted by equip level): Warrior Tank, Warlock, Rogue, 2 Feral Druids, Shaman, 2 Mages, Pally, Hunter (Twink).
Actually we find eg Moroes easier without Shackle than with a bad one. Decursing Magic debuffs is a pain for me for sure, but works well enough. Aran was a pain (4 tries), but everything else went quite smooth.
We've done Karazhan with as many as 3 Priests (2 Shadow), but it doesn't really matter that much.
& no we are not an "endgame raiding guild", we've done no more than Gruul and little poke at Void Reaver.

Is every guild only up to Gruul's? You never post news of guilds downing Illidan or even Kael'thas here :/
Tridus Jul 25th 2007 7:42AM
@12
There are a lot more guilds doing Kara and Gruul then doing Illidan or Kael, so the list of stuff going down reflects that.

Here's some realm news: Elune has an over abundance of healers and not many tanks. Period. If you're looking to transfer realms, and want a place full of healers LFG, then come on over to Elune.
About 75% of the groups I see in LFG are looking for a shadow priest, and not a holy priest. It took me about 30-45 mins to try to find a PUG needing a healer for anything in tempest keep. This is quite disturbing as blizzard has made every class with a healing spell a viable healer class for instances and raids. Where's the lore in that?
Oh well, I guess my alts will be pretty happy trying to find a healer tho =D
Phoenic Jul 25th 2007 8:44AM
@14
Same goes for Azjol'Nerub. Healers abound, tanks are damn near impossible to find these days. Seems like more and more warriors are inept at tanking which leaves feral druids with the pick of the lot. Good tanks will get a group anywhere they want in less than 5 minutes.

Solo PvE Priests have a hard road to walk... Follow the crowd and go Shadow to get some decent damage in order to survive, but get a big "meh" when you try to get into instances; or go Holy to attract the crowds but get creamed against the first "rabid hyenna" that comes your way.
I finally gave in and went Shadow just get through the PvE leveling. I prefer to level in instances though.
I have noticed that others seem far more willing to let a Shadow priest heal now than before.
darkicon Jul 25th 2007 10:05AM
My kara group runs with only 1 priest. He is shadow. the healers are Pally and a Tree Druid.
terry Jul 25th 2007 10:23AM
Fidelius on The Venture Co has merged with Venom. You would think two guilds who each have their own Kara raiding team would be able to organize two Kara raiding teams when in one guild. It is the first week though, so things are bound to be messy for a bit. Other than that Venom is working to take down Prince.
Akks Jul 25th 2007 10:55AM
Evolution on US Moonrunner has now cleared Kara. Last week we downed Netherspite and Nightbane. Currently working on Gruul. We are recruiting one Tank and 2 Healers to help fill out our 3 Kara groups and the 25 mans.

Funny, because ever since TBC, I have seen more healers than ever before. The introduction of two hybrid classes (Pally for Horde and Shammy for Alliance) has caused people to play them and many do so for the healing. Druids are tanking more, and Palladins are as well (though I don't see as many as I do of Druids). DPS is always in abundance. I might just be living the good life on my server though...
