Around Azeroth: Looking over Thousand Needles
Reader Xylar of Tichondrius sent in this lovely shot taken of the sun setting over Thousand needles from the Horde outpost of Freewind Post. (And I really feel for those of you out there who play Alliance but have never played Horde -- this particular Horde-only location gives quite a view.)

When I first started playing (a wee troll), I was pretty "meh" about Durotar and the Barrens. Sure, Orgrimmar was cool, but a bit overwhelming.and busy. Same for Ashenvale as I poked around there ... just a bunch of green and purple.
Then I got an order to go someplace called "Freewind Post" in an area with the ominous name of "Thousand Needles". It was about 3am when I dropped down this huge elevator and started slowing making my way through a canyon unlike anything I've ever seen. That was the first and only time I'd ever really felt grabbed by the visuals of WoW.

The first time I rocked up in Stranglethorn, it was raining and steamy and was one of the best weather effects I'd seen in a game since Morrowind. Then I probably got oneshotted by a level 60 on his way to Zul'Gurub. Good times.
