Epic mount price drop rumors
Some people are passing the rumor around that the Epic Flying Mount prices have dropped to 3000g on the PTR. This is not true. The price is still 5000g and will probably remain so until there is another expansion or later. Drysc confirms:Depending on how mount riding skills are going to progress, the most likely point for a price drop would be with the release of the next expansion, just as the ground mount prices dropped when Burning Crusade was released. Again it would likely depend on a few factors, and may actually not change. But that's a question for a later time.
Three days have passed since Quiham first posted this topic and it is still on the front page of the WoW General Discussion Forum, so this is a hot topic.
Do you think, as Mike does, that the current Epic Flying Mount price is too steep? Or are you happy that only the privileged few have them? Or do you agree with many of the posters, that the "privileged few" = "players with no life outside WoW"?

cry more, MMORPG's have grinds. this is one of them.

Before we saw the release of daily quests in Outland, I would have agreed that the flying epic prices were too steep at 5k. But when you can reliably gain 23.98 gold a day, and up to 71.94 gold before you get your hands on an epic mount, 5k doesn't seem to be quite so distant. Not that a price drop wouldn't be welcome anyway...

There was a time when I basically thought that amassing 5000g was an impossible task for me.
Then i switched professions and realized that it was easily attainable, and just a manner of time.
So far i have about 1300g, but admittedly haven't been farming as much lately as I should since I decided to farm for my Transmute Spec quest.
Is it too much?
Well even though I am making money now, i still think it's kinda steep. I have spent a large amount of time already just to get about ~20% of it done. I can't really same I'm excited about the rest of the grind.
Now that I have some capital, maybe I should start playin the AH?

I don't think they should change the price in the near future unless they immediately give a refund to all persons who already bought their mount, it's just not fair to change the price like that... when the next expac comes out, eh, sure, go ahead and reduce the price

I worked and saved and was smart with my professions and money for a month and a half once I decided I wanted an epic mount to get mine. I took all three 70's to Skettis every day, and made the most of my skinning, herbalism, alchemy and mining. I also sell of any greens worth more than 4g, the rest I had DEd and sold off the results. It was very worth it.

The price is too steep if for no other reason than that the mount can only be used in Outland. That's just way too small a place for it to actually be worth the 5k gold imo.

Yes, it's a LOT of money. But I think they wanted epic flappies to be rare. After all, epic ground mounts are significantly more expensive than normal ones... about the same 5x factor as a matter of fact.
Can you grind for the gold? Sure... 2 gathering professions in Outland would likely let you get 5k pretty fast. The problem with that is that if you want to tailor some of the great cloth items you need one profession slot for that, plus it will take time and mats. I've probably spent 2-3000g on mats and skilling things... but my priority is gearing my rogue to do well in Kara and beyond, not flying faster. For someone who wants the flapping, grab mining and skinning and get the money...
Honestly though, I just can't care that much... I'm sure the extra speed is cool and all, but the combination of my regular flying mount and an epic ground is fine. Yeah, I could fly faster from Shatt to Cosmo when doing the TK instances... but half the time I get summoned anyway, and now I can take the regular flyers, tell the flight master where I'm going, and then do a few other things (get on TS, grab a drink, etc) while I'm flapping.

Well, I may be in the minority but I feel that the price should be reduced about 50%. 5K gold is just very difficult to reach for a casual player, and for a player that is in a raiding guild and supporting multiple runs, VERY difficult.

Personally, I would lower the costs of the riding skills a lot. Then I would increase the costs of the mounts at least quadruple their current prices.
Basically, make it easy to get the skill and harder to get the mounts.
Mike H Jul 29th 2007 2:48PM
Yeah it would be a bit unfair to drop the price at this point; I almost have enough for an epic flying mount and will soon start my Netherdrake rep grind, if the price was to drop so soon after me earning the money I would demand to get some money back.
It all depends on how much the next expansion relies on mounts, Like at level 70 everyone "needs" a flying mount so it is quite cheap; the epic one, however, is more of a luxury thus the price is much higher.
So if a new "must have" mount is introduced then the price for the skill may drop so everyone can pay for the new skill.

Having 2 characters with 300 flying skill, and the money to pay for a third, after having given away 2000g so our Raider tanks could get resistance gear.. No, money is so easy to get that 5000g can be gathered by anyone with half a brain.
Simple things like:
Do quests (this one is SOO important)
Don't buy stuff of the AH.
Pick up everything
Vendor all gray items
Sell all green items on the AH
Sell and inform about Blue and Epic items on the AH.
When you do a quest, and get a questreward that you don't need. Pick the item that is worth the most to a vendor, not the one you need. So if your a clothy, pick the Chest Plate item. The bigger and heavier a item is, the more it's worth.
Get a gathering profession or two.
Kayron Jul 29th 2007 3:18PM
money is so easy to get, honestly
not to mention - is it such a bad thing to ask for a handful of items or achievements that not everyone has, that are actually useful - outside of those items attainable only through coordinated group play (raiding)
besides, srsly, who doesnt have epic flying training?
Argent Jul 29th 2007 3:18PM
my rogue alt had really no problem getting his epic flying mount. one suggestion:
don't quest in nagrand, BEM, netherstorm or SMV until you hit 70. nagrand is somewhat optional (it's about 700g worth of quests), but the other 3 zones are well in excess of 1000g each.
Juliah Jul 29th 2007 3:19PM
I agree with #6 and #9. Given that you can't use the mount anywhere but the Outland, the price is too high. It's also extremely difficult for the casual gamer to attain, thus exacerbating the haves/have-nots divide between the hardcore raiders and regular folks.
Baluki Jul 29th 2007 3:25PM
I wouldn't mind a decrease in the price. 5000g is pretty steep, even if you're good at making money. Everyone knows that they need to grind to make up that much money, but the question is really whether or not 5000g requires you to grind TOO much. I think 4000g would be far more reasonable. After a certain point, you're just asking people to do more of what they don't like to do.
Forstias Jul 29th 2007 3:35PM
I dont realy mind the cost actualy. I got mine very fast, I already got like 3k from questing to 70 and I made the next 2 in 1 week during my vacation. That was some insane grinding but the reward was so good :)
Asspigeon Jul 29th 2007 3:43PM
Nobody NEEDS an epic flying mount. As a luxury item, it is priced correctly. I went into Outland with 1200g and I made 5000g shortly after hitting 70 with ease (2 gathering professions).
ErsatzPotato Jul 29th 2007 3:51PM
It's fine. Optional item with great utility. Should be expensive.
"hardcore raiders and regular folks"
Hardcore raiders are likely to not have one and even be broke all the time.
Mats had it right, so right I'm repeating his list:
"Do quests (this one is SOO important)
Don't buy stuff of the AH.
Pick up everything
Vendor all gray items"
I'd add: Don't PVP.
Don't agree with "Sell all green items on the AH" The listing prices on outlands greens tend to be very high and the margins small. Most are more valuable disenchanted. Make friends with a disenchanter instead of learning it yourself!
If you have an expensive crafting profession to level up make a choice: max leatherworking or get the mount. Some professions are money holes.

I had about 2700g when I switched to tailoring and spent about 300 of that getting to about 350 when motes slowed me down. I only farm them and it's damn boring. We are raiding Kara and between supplies, repair, etc for that and buying Netherweave, my gold supply has remaind at about 2400g. So I don't see an epic flyer in the near future.
Since I only fly my private aero griff inter zone and fly commercial intra zone I really don't care if I get one soon. Considering all those people that bought their epic at the current price, I say leave it as it is to be fair.
