WoW Moviewatch: Paladin vs. Gnomergan
Yes, we've seen Paladins soloing higher level content (Scarlet Monastery comes immediately to mind) in the past. However, this single player Gnomergan run was done by a Paladin at level 60 rather than level 70 -- making this just as impressive an achievement. Plus, I disliked Gnomergan quite well enough the first time through -- and to go back at high levels and try to solo the place?

Paladins have soloed Blood Furnace before, and hunters/warlocks soloed Heroic Slave Pens- level 60 or not soloing Gnomeregan is hardly an impressive achievement.

Lawl I thought it was funny as hell. He did a nice job with editing and music (Spiderman ftw?) Seeing the entire instance die at once was priceless.

I used to run lowbies through Gnomeregan all the time at 60 on my priest. Keeping a L25 alive in there is the hardest part of the whole run. So some plate-wearing noob doing it alone isn't impressive - it's sad that he thinks it's impressive.

Very refreshing to see a WoW video without the obligatory generic nu-metal or hiphop soundtrack. :)

I used to farm Thermaplugg for engineering patterns on my 60 shaman back when my guild was still doing MC. Never got the one I was going for (Flame Deflector) but it was easy. Anyone can solo Gnomeregan at 60.
However, doing it the way that paladin did it is...unique. Can someone run us through what he/she did there? What spells/abilities/techniques were employed?

There's a difference between soloing a lowbie instance and soloing an entire lowbie instance at the same time.
If you watch the health bar, the pally almost dies twice from all the damage she takes. I'd like to see another class try to pull this off.
Shadeed Jul 30th 2007 2:12AM
@ 1 AND 2,
Whats impressive about it is she takes the whole instance in 1 pull. Show me other classes doing that
Connrad Jul 29th 2007 4:06PM
Yeah, it may have been a lowbie instance, but training that many mobs down to a certain room, then waiting for them and killing them all, was kind of cool.
EdgEy Jul 29th 2007 2:20PM
Half of the posters here are retarded. Wow people can solo instances? No shit.
This guy aggros EVERY MOB and kills them all at once.
The_FreeMan Jul 29th 2007 1:58PM
hes using the aura, cant remember the name where when you block they take dmg, thus he runs on his side to begin blocking and take them out, he might be using consecration also
Annoula Jul 29th 2007 2:14PM
The amazing thing about it is he pulls the entire instance. Have you pulled everything to Baron and solo'd him there?
Come to think of it, I should start employing this strategy when I run lowbies through deadmines.

Really a pity people don't watch the movie before spewing negativity, I would like to see any other class that can aoe an entire instance at once. And even this paladin dropped health below 20% several times.
Dabura Jul 30th 2007 1:53PM
If its a solo then why at the start does he receive a PW:S?

@6:
Protection-spec paladins have three damage-shield spells that go off when you get hit or block and two abilities that greatly increase your block chance. He probably had a shield spike as well for even more damage while blocking.
On top of that, a paladin has seals and judgements that let him regen health, mana or both by attacking enemies, and another proc effect that doubles attack speed for up to 8 seconds whenever he gets hit.
Put all that together and you have paladin AoE combat - the more mobs you're fighting at once, the better it works (since the vast majority of your damage is reflective).
Grimm Jul 29th 2007 3:28PM
Here's a list of abilities used for pally AoE (not sure if he actually used all of them or not):
Retribution Aura - does holy damage to attackers.
Blessing of Sanctuary - reduces damage taken, does holy damage to attackers.
Holy Shield - increases block chance by 30% while active, does holy damage to attackers if you block.
Shield spike - blacksmithing item attached to a shield, does physical damage to attackers on block. His shield may have had some sort of innate damage proc as well.
Redoubt - 10% proc on getting hit in melee that increases block chance by 30%.
Seal of Light - a self-buff with a healing proc triggered by hitting an enemy. A lesser version can be applied to the mob as a debuff, giving health back to anyone who hits it in melee.
Seal of Wisdom - like Seal of Light, but it returns mana instead of health.
Reckoning - 10% chance on getting hit to double your attack speed for the lesser of 4 swings or 8 seconds. This will increase the health and mana gained from your seals.
Divine Shield - the bubble.
Lay on Hands - last-ditch, instant-cast heal on an hour cooldown that costs all the mana you currently have and heals the target for an amount equal to the caster's max health (and gives him some mana to boot). Popping LoH on yourself when your health and mana are low can mean a full heal that actually *gives* you mana.
And I think that's about all that's really relevant to the video.

Uhhh... at 59 I soloed Gnomer for the Gnome Rep as a Draenei Shaman. It's not even close to hard. I died once - when I was MASSIVELY stupid, and ghost-wolf-ran through the corridor leading up to one of the mid-bosses (the one that drops the key), and brought with me a wave of at least 40 or so of the leper gnomes behind me - I was able to kill the boss, but a lack of CC got me. I just ahnked back once the enemies cleared out.
Cyndane Jul 29th 2007 3:55PM

Lepers killed you. This guy pulled half the instance. (elites, 30+)
Oldbear Jul 29th 2007 4:19PM
I solo'ed it with my lvl60 Huntard... But I didn't make a cool video of it...
Elizabeth Harper Jul 29th 2007 4:23PM
Actually, if I saw a video of someone soloing a 45m Baron run, I'd quite likely post it -- whether it's been done before or not, I haven't seen any videos of it. (So long as it wasn't actually 45m long...)
And for those of you wanting to know more on how a Paladin manages this particular brand of awesomeness, check out Elizabeth Wachowski's writeup on their protection spec: http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/07/03/the-light-and-how-to-swing-it-the-sadists-guide-to-palaoeadins/
Matt Jul 29th 2007 4:56PM
um... I soloed SM lib at level 43 on my paladin. I really don't see how this is impressive at all...
