Breakfast Topic: Capturing your character's essence with art
It might sound a little like an essay exam question from an Art History class, but Inaraserra wrote in asking about how you would represent your character (or class) in pictorial form. If you could sit down with an artist and have them draw one picture --regardless of scene-- that would include everything that it means to you to play that character, what would you select? I know it's a little tricky for my main character, but I always imagined my warlock standing in the brightly lit sun cuddling an imp minion trying desperately to claw his way out of her loving arms. For me it's a sort of metaphor about the juxtaposition of her physical features (being a blond, vapid-looking human) with her dark demon-loving ways.Filed under: Breakfast Topics

I... wouldn't. I think that's getting a little too involved with my online game.

My priests come from the school of "I will strike down with great vengeance and furious anger those who threaten to destroy my party members," so, really - replace Travolta with a female Troll, make SLJ a grizzled white guy, and put 'em both in horribly mis-matched cloth armor, and you've got it.
"Say 'GggGLllLlRrggRlll' again, Murlockf*cker!"

I'd never thought about it, however.
I imagine my human rogue as wandering through a busy marketplace, dressed as a member of the minor nobility while cutting the purse-strings of some wealthy merchant.
I imagine my undead priest as slumped over the broken altar of a ruined church, holding a shattered memento of his former life.
My draenei hunter would be clad in browns and greens, with his faithful cat beside him, bow lined up to take out a distant enemy.
My undead mage would be in the middle of a battlefield, in the clutches of deep maniacal laughter as he incinerates those around him.
I think that'll do.

Okay to explain this the way I imagine my Warlock is very detailed so here goes....
See Dementors sucking life out of Harry Potter...okay THAT took forever, but yeah, I imagine my Warlock sucking the life out of anything and everything like when the dementors have Harry on his back, in both HP 3&4 movies...Yeah, I like that...

I didn't pay someone to do fanart... I am a fanartist. 'Nuff said.

I assume my tauren druid would be in like a forest, and the light would be hitting him but his shadow would be in the form of a cat or bear
Tsudao Jul 30th 2007 9:21AM
Nice topic. I would draw my hunter like so: Pet pouncing to a humanoid, my hunter standing with bow ready, arrow head starting to glow, and another creature just behind me in a freeze trap (in some humorous pose)

I would picture my female Orc warlock in the middle of Shadowmoon Valley, with the lightning and green lava, etc. 'Cept that she is sitting on the ground, happy as could be, creating little green firey balls, which my Felhunter is playing with. Think a kitten playing with a piece of string, or something like this: http://www.blizzard.com/inblizz/fanart/images/screens/ss473.jpg
See, I don't see my Felhunter as a demonic beast that sucks magic out of living things. I see it as a red puppy with claws, that happens to have a diet of magic.

Sweet! Thanks for posting it Amanda!! Myself and Tsudao (#7) kinda got into a discussion about it one day, and ever since then, I'd wanted to see what everyone else thought about their character, because everyone thinks about their class in a different way.
I spent all my lower levels questing as Tsudao's second pet.. so I guess I still see Inaraserra (paladin) as this small girl with a big hammer running into battle alongside Tsudao's cat. :)

My warlock would be a solid black canvas...because of course I'm a Grue at heart. :)
Rakan Jul 30th 2007 10:06AM
My hunter, well, that would have to be in a huge battle ground, and you see him shadowmelded in a tree or gloom, picking out his target, with one of his pets beside him waiting...prolly the Scorpid, all hunkered down trying to hide with him in the shadows...
My nelf priest, prolly mind controling something and making it dance...
and well, for my belf pally...that would be fighting 4-5 mobs at once, giggling all the way to thier doom

i kinda picture my dwarf warrior standing on a pile of corpses bloodstained looking down in amazement that his healer kept him up.
Nafaras Jul 30th 2007 10:55AM
As for my character...
I see an undead warrior near the fallen bell Lordaeron with shield dropped to the ground. With both hands gripped around her one hander shattering the weapon against the bell.

Mine would have to be a 3 frame picture. Character: Tauren Druid.
Setting would be somewhere like Felwood, or anywhere the legion has left their defiling mark and the Cenarion Druids are attempting to cleanse. First Frame would have my tauren with his hulking frame desperately trying to mend a plagued fawn back to health, his massive totem resting against a tree, all while an oncoming demon is stuck entangled in place by my Druid's roots. Second fram would be the fawn cured and fleeing with my druid expressing a sigh of relief. Final Frame would have my druid engaging the demon in bear form as he slashes across his chest digging deep into his mid body.
There ya go, got my druid using a spell from all 3 trees heh :)

Well, I am an artist so I should try and draw mine but I tend to take months on these types of things so the written version:
My Troll Rogue would be clamoring on the back of a giant Orc with one dagger buried in its' shoulder and the other raised high while the Orc raised it's beefy arms reaching for the Rogue. Perhaps the Rogue would be halfway in stealth as if it was his first strike.
Woah, now I HAVE to draw that!

Easy:
As a ghost since I spend a fair amount of time in that form! :)

A bit off-topic but can't help but to plug my realm, Quel'Thalas (EU).
We've got artist with skillz, who has been nice enough to offer to draw Quel'Thalasian characters by request.
Antileah rules ;-)

Being an artist myself I like to make things cartoony, sequential artist hehe. Anyways that said, for me Burgy I'm going to be working on a peace that involves him surrounded by undead minions and staring into the picture with no fear, no concern for his life. He just is ready to fight till the death.
Fuzzymuffin on the other hand, my horde warrior, would be in some battle throwing his two blades around as if they were twenty. Decimating all that comes before him. I got the sketches somewhat ready but t-shirt designs are in the way to get them done atm.

Hmmm this are all neat ideas too, I may just take a few as some influence for some later stuff. =D

I could see my night elf druid sitting in swift flight form on the branch of one of the tree in skettis, peering down at the ruins far below...
