Reader WoWspace of the Week: Taeo
Here's the details on this week's Reader WoWspace, straight from the gnome...err... man himself!
First off, I play on the Spinebreaker US realm. [As mentioned] My main is a 70 Gnome Mage named Taeo although lately I have been gearing up my 70 Human Warrior alt, Tyven. Both characters are members of the guild <Epiphany>. I've taken a bit of a break from raiding but they are working their way through SSC and TK.
The dominating feature of my WoWspace is of course the displays. The main screen on the left is actually a 37" Westinghouse 1080p HDTV. It has multiple inputs so I can switch between my PC, Xbox 360, PS2, Wii, or laptop at a touch of the remote. The "wing" on top of it is actually the Wii sensor bar. WoW is absolutely beautiful on it and at a resolution of 1920x1080 it stays sharp even at this size. (Having seen the screen shots, I think we can definitely all agree with that!)
The smaller monitor on the right is a 20" Dell widescreen running at 1680x1050 resolution. WoW has a handy feature that allows you to run WoW maximized in a Window. This allows me to simply drag my mouse over to the second monitor with ease. I normally have a few browser windows, iTunes, Ventrilo, and instant messenger going at all times on it.
My PC is a custom build of my own. For people who like specs, I am currently running an Athlon 64 3500+ at 2.5ghz with 2GB memory and an nVidia 7800GTX video card. The PC and game systems are all hooked up to a Logitech 5.1 surround sound system rated at 500 watts RMS. The headset is a cheapo from Radio Shack since all I use is the mic.
The keyboard is a Logitech G15 and yes, that is an LCD screen attached to it. It shows stats and tells you when you receive tells in WoW. In other words, save yourself some cash and get a G11 without the LCD if you like the keyboard! The left hand side of the keyboard has 18 programmable keys. Very useful for WoW macros. The mouse is a Logitech G5. It has some neat features for twitchy games but it is a bit overkill for WoW. It feels good in your hand though!
Taeo also went on to tell me that while it looks like there's a great deal of money invested here, that most of the components of his WoWspace were purchased through eBay. Thus he was able to build a wonderful gaming space for not too terribly much money. I have to admit, I'm a fan of the space, with a special warm spot in my heart for the computer in his setup. I've always been of the mind that your machine can be equally as nice an item as the rest of your gaming space with all the extra goodies and cases out there for computers these days! For those out there who'd like to share your Reader WoWspace with the rest of us, be sure to send us an email! Please include a few pictures with a bit about your system(s), you and your characters, and any other information you'd like to add about the things that make your WoWspace into something uniquely and totally yours!

I love the setup, it's pretty close to the one I dream of having... :) Great to have something like this to shoot for. But I have to say, the part that sets it over the top is the Garfield lamp. Was that an eBay purchase as well?

Thats almost exactly what I have!
42 Westinghouse (couldnt find the 37 locally)
19 Viewsonic
360/Wii

i currently use a 24" acer monitor paired with a 19" viewsonic at resolutions 1920x1200 and 1280x1024. WoW is so much better on the big screens. hopefully in the coming year ill build my gaming machine cause the pc i currently use is mostly for videos and music.
specs are
Pentium D 950 at 3.4ghz
2gb of DDR2800
XFX nVidia 7950gt
and 1.6 terabytes of hdd space

Thats an Attic room. Guy still lives in Mommy's house and spending all the extra money on all this hardware. You can tell the guy doesn't own the house or rents, cause the furniture is the typical low budget flat table.
Get out of the house and girlfriend already.

Amazing Taeo. Just as cool as your UI

37" HDTV
Xbox 360
PS2
Wii
Logitech 5.1 surround
IS a great deal of money to play video games.
I have a G15 and have never figured out how to put WoW stuff on the keyboard screen. How is that done? Yea...the G keys are great especially the ability to assign profiles to them for different classes.

@4.gamerjunkie
I can't imagine any other reason you'd feel the need to post a comment like that other than jealousy.
You're right about just one thing. I do still live at home. However, when you consider that my home is 10 minutes from my university it hardly seems to make sense to spend all that money to move out.

Taeo: Sweet setup man - ignore the fool.
I like the idea of using the Max windowed mode. When I go back to school and have some more choice over how my system is setup, I will be using a similar setup with my HDTV. Hopefully, I can give ya a little run for your money. ;-)
Still, extremely nice setup.

gamerjunkie just got pwned
Who cares where he lives, or how much money he spended on it ? If he has the money, he can spend it in whatever he likes. Hes not showing where he lives, just his WoW Space =D

i bow before what is TAEO
Jenasha Aug 5th 2007 11:44PM
Wow! I have to admit, Taeo has quite the game space! I wish I had a screen that big!
Looking at the stuff thats just in those pictures, I'd imagine he spent some SERIOUS cash on those goodies. I'm insanely jealous now.
bill gates Aug 5th 2007 11:48PM
forget the computer, its all about the Garfield lamp
Argall Aug 6th 2007 12:18AM
Awesome setup, I love the TV.
Tianshi Aug 6th 2007 12:47AM
Taeo you suck. You just plain suck.
Ha ha ha okay I'm just kidding, I'm just kidding. Seriously your setup looks fantastic. I also took a look at your UI setup and I really like it. I actually had a similar concept while designing my UI but unfortunately since I'm running a 20" the design could never really take off. I can see how your UI is viable though with that nice HDTV.
All in all: I wish *I* had an HDTV to play WoW on.../cry.
Good stuff Taeo!
Taeo Aug 6th 2007 2:13AM
Lol. Thanks for all the comments guys. If you want something like it tho all you gotta do is keep your eyes out for deals.
37" HDTV - Ebay - $600
20" Dell - Dell Website sale + coupon - $200
G15 Keyboard - Best Buy - coupon + open box - $30
GeForce 7800GTX - from a friend WoW friend - $80
XBox 360 - from a WoW friend $120
The Logitech 5.1 speakers were a steal. I had received a cheaper set of Logitech 5.1 speakers as a gift. After a year one of the channels went bad. I called to have it replaced and apparently they didn't make the same set of speakers anymore. To compensate me they just sent me a pair of Z5500's. Basically the best speakers they make.
Keep your eyes peeled and be patient!
And yes, I know the Garfield lamp is pro ;-)
Kimkong Aug 6th 2007 5:36AM
Really awesome! The kind of Wowspace I'd like to have when I'll move out from my Mommy's house ! Except the Garfield lamp... ^^ And I am a fan of Logitech, I love the design of their products and their modularity, and above all, they come from my country ;-)
Yeah GamerJunkie, I also live in Mommy's house, it's terrible, isn't it ? And it's an attic room ! And I have a boyfriend (yeah, I don't know how it's possible, I must have met him on a chat for lonely wow geeks), who also live by his Mommy's... How is it possible ? Of course, it's because we just play wow and spend all money in this, don't we ? Our parents should buy us a house even if they'll starve and if it takes two hours to go to the university, or better, we should drop it to take a McJob, so we can move out from our parent's house and buy an outrageously expensive table for our Wowspace !!! Yeah, THAT would be cool...

I like it. I have a 32" HDTV LCD that I am planning to use as my main gaming screen once I get an additional NV7600GS to run in SLI mode.
Well done!
Zugzugz Aug 8th 2007 4:41AM
Hey Taeo, this is Zugzugz also from Spinebreaker. I have to say I am really a fan of your setup and would really like to do something like it, mainly the huge screen, mine is a 1600x1200 resolution but nowhere near as large in physical size as yours. I am also using the same speakers as you and love them! Great stuff!
