GameStop offering WotLK pre-orders
No, Blizzard hasn't announced a release date or price yet, but Gamestop is already happy to take your money in exchange for a future copy of Wrath of the Lich King. And looking at the pre-order page text, I'm thinking there just might be some World of Warcraft fans with a sense of humor working on Gamestop's web page:
Official price and release date have NOT been announced by Blizzard. In this case, the price and release date were determined by the GameStop e-commerce staff, (comprised of overpowered warlocks), using a combination of 6 and 20-sided die.
Important: If the price decreases between the time you place your order and the release date, you will receive the lower price. Woot! If the price increases you will be given the option to either pay the higher price or cancel your order. However, if the price increases by more than $1,000, many of us here at the corporate office plan to retire and purchase a small Caribbean island. You are welcome to visit us at any time. Please bring pizza, chocolate and cold beverages.
Note: We vehemently oppose "ninja looting" therefore your credit card will NOT be charged until your order is processed for shipping. Pre-order now. Power to the players.
They're estimating a cost of $39.99 at a release date of 11/3/08. The price seems likely, since that's what The Burning Crusade sold for, but the release date is anyone's guess. And I don't know about you, but I'm waiting for news on a collector's edition before I do any pre-ordering!

Pfft. Don't bother to pre-order it. They just want to scare you into thinking that you won't be able to find it so they can be the ones to make money off you. In fact, you'll probably even be able to find it cheaper.
Don't bother to pre-order the Collector's Edition either. Yup, always plenty of those. I wouldn't try to misdirect you so I can be sure to get one myself. Honest. :O

Ooh maybe they'll give us a pet snowflake for the collector's edition!

Never hurts to pre-order, regardless of the availability.
I used to work at EBGames (Same thing as Gamestop) and in the past they would still price match for a pre-order. Also, if a CE is annouced after you pre-order, they will contact you asking if you're wanting to upgrade and pay the difference.

Does anyone remember that there were TONS of Burning Crusade copies available (CE or other) the day of release? Why order now? I walked into a store at Noon on release day and got one easily.
Not to mention that this thing probably isn't coming out til Xmas '08 at the earliest.

@2
I'm kinda hoping for a pet penguin in the Collector's Edition. I know there has been posts requesting them on the forums, but we shall see.

"Not to mention that this thing probably isn't coming out til Xmas '08 at the earliest."
I keep seeing people post stuff like this. "It'll be a year at least!" Where are you getting this info? There's precedent for a quick launch. TBC was announced at Blizzcon last year and launched the following January. Blizzard has said that they'd like to launch one expansion a year. I think Q1 '08 would be a pretty safe guess for WOTLK.

@6, there was no Blizzcon "last year" it was 2 years ago. Burning Crusade came out 16 months after it was shown at Blizzcon.

@6 no actually your wrong tbc was announced at blizzcon 05 it came out feb 07 thats a long time for a damn expansion. so most likely that is right if not off by a year.

I'd highly suggest *not* pre-ordering and just heading down to your local Frys (if you've got one). I went the day after the opening party that Blizzard threw at my local Frys (Anaheim) and found that they had well over 500 copies of the collector's edition of The Burning Crusade. Literally. They had about four pallets stacked a few feet high and a couple of feed wide. It was ridiculous. A checker told me that the party didn't receive as much attendance as they were hoping for. Granted it was pretty damn cold (for Southern California) the night before.
Oh, and get the collector's edition, of course. I missed the very first one but was very pleased with the content in The Burning Crusade.

Dumbass GameStop!!!
I went in there on the release date of TBC only to have some goth chic tell me; "You should have preordered!!!" in a stuck up, holier-than-thou voice. I wished her luck in the brief moment that she felt smarter than someone, and drove block to Circut City and got my 3 copies off the rack where 50 more copies waited for the rest of you that were too stupid to pre-order at GAYmeStop.
Bobo Aug 8th 2007 8:26AM
The whole point of GAYmeStop's pre-orders is that they will only order the exact quantity that is pre-ordered. Walk-in customers are NOT welcome untill the next shipments come in.
Sounds selfish to me. I haven't been back since they turned my TBC giddiness back on me and will avoid them in the future.
This isn't my blog obviously, but if they wanna pay you for our time, then more power to ya!
