WoW comic podcast with Chris Metzen from Comicon
The weekend before BlizzCon, Chris Metzen (Blizzard's Vice President of Creative Development), Jim Lee and DC Comics were at Comicon discussing the new World of Warcraft Comic Book.Blizzplanet has an excellent synopsis of the panel, but DC Comics has the hourlong podcast available as well in case you want to hear about lore and the comic book straight from Chris Metzen's mouth.
Pictured here is Valeera Sanguinar, a Blood Elf Rogue Action Figure that is not available until October 24th. She is a character that is introduced in the comic book along with the other Action Figures: Thargas Anvilmar, Rehgar Earthfury and Meryl Felstorm.
The thing I find most interesting is that the comic book is a way that Blizzard is introducing new lore to be added to the game in future patches/expansions.
Chris Metzen is highly entertaining and passionate about the wonderful lore he has created. I highly recommend giving the podcast a listen, if you have the chance.
Thank you Dark Yoshi and Onnix for the tip!

I just wish they could use the game to actually tell the story and introduce new lore rather than a comic book. sure it would be difficult and require a lot of programming but isn't that why we all pay a monthly fee.
Personally, I'm waiting for a real world changing event like the fall of Stormwind or something that changes the game forever.

Or the Gnomes getting their own home city...
I like the idea of "excess" lore going to novels and comics, but changing the game world to reflect the lore is what I'm hoping for.

@2 Is that what those little creatures running around are? Gnomes. That's funny.

I am always amazed when someone's last name describes their profession. That was great thinking on the parts of their ancestors.
I wish my last name had been Thunderfists rather than Fishmarketer.

They new do use the game itself to introduce new lore and characters. Look at the Gruul and his sons for example? There is some very cool lore involved with all of those characters (and the Blade's Edge area as whole) in my opinion. And, unless the Gronn are actually from the pages of a Warcraft book, they are unique to WoW.
As far as permanently changing things in WoW, that's a bit harder to do as the content needs to remain in place for everyone to see. Blizzard has made some efforts to change things. Rexxar and Lord Kazzak have headed to Outland. And, we've been told that the Kirin Tor are going to uproot Dalaran and move it to Northrend in the next expansion. I think the best way to make it feel as thought players have an actual effect on the world it implement more global events prior to content patches--similar to the AQ war efforts or the scourge attacks prior to Naxx.
That being said, I think it's a good idea to do something new with comic book. It will provide yet another resource to look to when designing more new content.
