34 realms down for 48 hours

Well, this is going to upset some people. Not me, you understand, because I'm not on one of the affected realms, but...well, let me just give you the news straight from Blizzard's Breaking News box:Beginning Monday, August 13 at 11:55 PM PDT we will be performing maintenance on the following realms. This maintenance will be conducted as a means to optimize our World of Warcraft infrastructure for teh associated realms, and is expected to last approximately 48 hours. Please note that during this time, some services such as the Armory or Paid Character Transfers may be unavailable. Your patience and understanding are appreciated.
Aggramar, Argent Dawn, Arthas, Azgalor, Bleeding Hollow, Bloodhoof, Burning Blade, Burning Legion, Durotan, Earthen Ring, Elune, Eonar, Eredar, Gilneas, Gorefiend, Kargath, Laughing Skull, Lihgning's Blade, Llane, Lothar, Madoran, Magtheridon, Malygos, Mannoroth, Medivh, Shadowmoon, Shattered Hand, Skullcrusher, Stormrage, Thunderhorn, Thunderlord, Trollbane, Warsong, Zul'jin
Yikes! That's a lot of realms to bring down for two days. For those of you on the affected servers, you have my condolences. I guess it's time to go out, do some shopping, clean the kitchen, watch TV...or just play an alt on another server. I hope players with characters on those servers will get playtime credits.

That sucks, but I suggest that people roll up a toon (yes, I said toon) on a different server and explore another faction or starting area. Roll up an Orc and do the Lazy Peon quest if you haven't done that before.

My main's a Horde on Azgalor, so it looks like it'll be time to work on my very much neglected Alliance characters on Azshara.

Sad thing is, I'm on Earthen Ring and haven't played all week cause I was doing errands and cleaning house. Oh the irony :D

There's only 34 realms on that list, not 42.

Wow! That's what happens when I assume the word count of a list will correspond to the number of realms on it. Curse you, two-word realm names!

I bet they're installing some new equipment to handle the upcoming voice chat feature. I get the feeling that this is just the first wave.
Have they mentioned anything about compensating people for the time lost? I'm assuming that they'll at least give people an extra 48 hours.

I certainly hope we get a little compensation. I can live without WoW for a few days (though I would have preferred the days after I got Metroid Prime 3), but almost all of my characters are on the affected realms. Then again, they could claim that since only some of the servers are going down, you're not being prevented from playing the game, just some of your characters in the game....
But I still would like a little compensation. Just to be nice, Blizzard.

Where does it say the realms will be down for 48 hours? Even your own quote says "during this time, some services such as the Armory or Paid Character Transfers may be unavailable. Your patience and understanding are appreciated."
No mention is made of a total black out for two days, just some services may not be available.

Hm...I guess I just assumed that "undergoing maintenance" meant "down". Perhaps I jumped the gun; we'll see.

I'm on Argent Dawn, and I'm not too worried even if we're down for two days. We're never on the list for this kind of thing, so I guess it's about time.

I guess it's time to replace skullcrusher's hampsters running the hard drive again. sigh. This will really put a kink in our raiding week...we had some big plans for the upcoming week.

Wouldnt it be nice to have the articles around here actually have something along the lines of [US] or [EU] when it comes to realms ;) its kinda annoying to try and figure out if its US or EU realms.

Everytime my realm is down for longer than the normal downtime or for longer downtime I notice my account is extended by a day or so. Dunno if it just happens that month the bill date is off or something.
In the past six months I have recieved atleast 4 days for extended downtime. so those of you on these realms I feel for ya, lets hope blizz does the right thing. Speaking of which if you guys create new alts on other servers lets not be a bunch of goobers and spam stuff over and over.

The servers will NOT be taken down for this maintenance. Read their notice, it does not say that the realms will be down. Don't panic!
