Around Azeroth: Leveling fishing
Says Les of this shot:
Despite the changes made to fishing recently, the simple truth remains that it takes an inordinate amount of time to level up that skill as the two fishermen in this screen shot illustrate.
Over at WoW Insider, we're in complete agreement with Les. Any profession that leaves you in that state needs some work.

Wrong! Dead wrong. I put off fishing for the longest time. I was lvl 25 up to 3 weeks ago. Now I am lvl 375. Since the last patch its so much easier, you are guaranteed a bite every cast. Boring to lvl it might be but its still easy. You just need to be doing something else. Time flies if you're on vent bs'ing with people or watching tv while lvling fishing. I would lvl fishing over smithing/engineering any day.
0-75 SW
75-140 Red Ridge
140-225 Booty Bay
225-300 Tanaris/Feralas
Oh and use the best lures/pole you can find at all times. If fish are constantly getting away then go somewhere easier

Finally, a shot that ISN'T a sunset/sunrise.

What?
That's unpossible.
They should be super fat from eating all the trash fish they catch.
Haha.

You can fish where you want. I lvld it up while browsing regular fora, waiting for party members or in AV.
Be more flexible, it's easy to do something else while fishing. I love it for getting consumables at 70.

Actually, imho (that the humble opinion of a 375 fisher), last patch made it worse for two reasons.
When you dont get a fish even tho something bites, no error message, no nothing...
If it bites at the last second, you have to preventivly click... before it bites... thats dumb.. because once the timer is over, you cant click the bobber anymore..
There was an article over at El's extreme anglin' about that a while ago.
And by the way #3, you can fish anywhere... its the number of fish not their "skill". The formula looks something like this :
(current unmodified fishing level - 75) / 25 = total # of fish required to level.

You can level to 375 in Stormwind. It doesn't go any faster or slower in different zones, but I guess it makes it more interesting. It takes far too long to gain skill and if they made it so that you gained skill faster in tougher areas, it would go a long way in making things more interesting. There's just no incentive to leaving SW Canals, with the bank, AH, and mailbox 10 seconds away.

@5 I agree with you completely. That last second bite that you, inevitably, almost always miss kinda makes the changes not much of a change. Yeah, 20 seconds instead of 30 is damned nice, but that last second bite is just annoying as fuck.

I don't know. Coming from someone who has leveled Blacksmithing and Enchanting, it's hard to complain about a profession that you can level for next to no cost. Professions should be hard to level. That's why they have value.
UncleVinny Aug 10th 2007 3:30PM
Yes, there's a good reason to get out of Stormwind to level up your fishing: you'll catch fish that are actually valuable.
I went from about 180 to 300 fishing in the Wailing Caverns... caught lots of the Deviate fish that you can make plenty of money selling. Then I switched to Zangarmarsh and Terrokar to get to 375... even if you don't want to use the +stats food yourself, you can sell it to someone who does. I would have gone crazy standing in the SW canals all that time...!

@6
Yeah... you could do that but once you're above 300 and got a few +fishing items and those lovely +100 fishing thingies that I can't remember the name of... just hang out there and catch the trout, bluefish, and mudfish. The food that can be made from them is amazing.
+23 spell damage, +20 spirit from the bluefish.
+20 agility and spirit from the mudfish.
Oh, well, not so much the trout. I confused the enormous from the regular barbed. Still, if your fishing isn't maxed at 70, run around Nagrand.

I fished to about 300 in Orgrimmar with Murky. Whenever I was waiting for my friends to log in, or I was too drunk to tank successfully, I would fish. And no, I was never too drunk to fish.
Once I was able to start catching the 'good' outland fish I never looked back. It was just as tedious to fish up my food buffs as it was to run around picking flowers.. and less monsters to get in the way.
doobtray Aug 10th 2007 4:20PM
Fishing is boring.
RogueJedi86 Aug 10th 2007 5:44PM
Fishing Motes of Water from the Pure Water pools in the rivers of Nagrand are good money-making, and not many people bother leveling fishing, so it's free money for me. Good reason to level it up.
Now if only they'd bring those fabled Bloated Fish that had greens inside them.
