The voices of Azeroth
Last week we looked at who made the soundtrack of Azeroth (and I heard-- and saw-- those very people at the Video Games Live BlizzCon concert), and this week, olanthe on WoW Ladies wants to know who's behind the other, very memorable part of WoW's audio: the voices.Unfortunately, just like the music, Blizzard doesn't actually credit the talent part by part, so while it's easy to find a list of who's voiced something in game (the IMDB entry is probably the most comprehensive, as it contains all the names from the booklets to both shipping WoW and Burning Crusade), finding out who's done what is a little harder. Tony Jay did the intros for all the races, and Cam Clarke has been pegged as the male Blood Elf (among others, including Nexus-Prince Shaffar and Medivh). Voice actress Erin Fitzgerald has done quite a few voices in Burning Crusade, including Dorothy and the Wicked Witch, as well as Sarannis and the Essence of Desire in the Black Temple. Kath Soucie, another well known voice actress, has also done voices in BC, as has Michael Dorn (yes, Worf).
But most surprising on the list is probably the sheer number of Blizzard employees-- some, like Samwise Didier, Chris Metzen and Mike Morhaime, are well known, but others, like Tracy Bush, Derek Duke, and Glen Stafford, are usually working on the music of Azeroth. And even others-- Michele Arko, and I'm sure a few other names that I just don't recognize, work in completely different departments of Blizzard, from QA to Administration. So it seems like they invite a lot of their local employees to come in and record voices for their games, and not until recently, with the Burning Crusade, have they turned more often to more high profile actors.
Unfortunately, that doesn't exactly answer the question of who the female Night Elf is. But especially for the shipping game, odds are that it's someone who works at Blizzard, not a professional voice actor.
Update: You guys are the best. A reader of ours is friends with the Night Elf voice, so here she is: Debi Mae West. And yes, her goods really are of the highest quality. Apparently, she was also Meryl in Metal Gear Solid.

I know more than one person(myself included) have wondered if the person narrating as Arthas in the WotLK trailer is popular anime voice actor Crispin Freeman. It has a bit of his voice, but being that WotLK is unreleased, we can only guess if it's him.
Crispin Freeman:

If not him, then who was Arthas?

Arthas was voiced by Justin Gross http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1225431/ in WC3 and WC3X. But that's not to say that someone else didn't do the voice in the cinematic.
Arthas' voice is also used in Naxxramas, but I have no idea who that was either. It seems kinda odd to pay someone to come in and record 3 or 4 lines of dialog, so maybe it was another employee.

I just want to know who did the Gnome Female Train.

I never got into Naxx, and I barely remember WC3, so I can't say if his WotLK voice sounds like it did in previous games. Any clues?
I know at least a few anime-related VAs did some work in Warcraft 3 and WoW. Michael McConnohie did Uther & Kel'Thuzad in WC3, and Kel'Thuzad in WoW, so maybe others did.
Really though, it'd be nice to be able to have names for the roles of the voice actors. Blizzard must be the only company still not listing specific roles for their voice acting credits.

Wow. I remember thinking "Man that guy sounds like Worf... can't be!". Yay for Michael Dorn. :)

One thing I heard on the Geeks On podcast was that one of the hosts, Matthew Yang King, did the voice of Illidan for WC3/FT, but due to being union couldn't do Illidan again for BC.

I still find it a bit of a shame that Medivh had his Voice Actor changed from WC3 to WoW, in WC3 he was voiced by Michael Bell, now it's Cam Clarke(trying to sound like Bell).

When my friend and I first started playing, we would run around the human areas saying "Thank you, Worf" to the deep-voiced NPCs. We thought we were joking. Too funny, and very cool.

IMDB.com does have a full cast list, but only the actors names are listed.
Still, it'd give you some names to start checking out..

I met Spike Spencer (a well-known voice actor) last November before TBC came out, and he told us he did a few voices for TBC. Since it was before TBC came out I can't remember exactly which voices he said he was, although I'm pretty sure he's the voice of the shredder boss in Steamvaults and another boss somewhere else. He also said he did a blood elf voice, but it might just be one of the random NPC voices.
I'm about 99% sure he did the shredder boss in steamvaults because he did it for us :P

I don't know about Wow but some other games just go through central casting. I have a friend who is in her 50's and has a wonderful deep gravely voice and she does some voice acting for the Elder Scrolls Series.

Doesn't come as a surprise to me that Blizzard is also falling to the low of using in-house employees to do pathetic voice work. A good example is the Void Reaver in The Eye. His voice has been processed to sound as a robot, but I can spot a bad voice actor there. If it's indeed a real professional, then he really ought to improve a lot. Another equally bad voice actor is the one that voiced the shouting Doomwalker in Netherwing Ledge.

They really oughta hire quality anime voice actors for this. They do dozens of video games in addition to anime and normal cartoons. Since a lot of anime are fantasy-type situations, the voice actors tend to fit well into those sorts of roles, even in WoW. Which Blizz did when they used Michael McConnohie to voice Uther and Kel'thuzad in WC/WoW.
