Breakfast Topic: Which faction is more mature?

In the age-old debate on which faction holds supremacy over the other, this topic arose on the WoW Ladies forum: which faction is the most mature, Horde or Alliance? Now, it seems to me that it's hard to pin this one down, seeing as how the population of servers varies greatly. And we're not even talking about the age level of players.
It seems more interesting to me to discuss the maturity levels of WoW players on both sides of the game. In my personal experience, I haven't seen much in the way that would indicate a winner on either side, but I also play mostly Alliance on a PvE server. Yes I've seen my share of idiots, I've grouped with them, heck I've even been them on occasion. My horde experience mostly comes from playing in our blog guild, but the It Came from the Blog members seem to be a cut above the rest, so I am not sure I can count them as a slice of the general Horde population. In your experience, have you found Horde players or Alliance players to be more mature?

I played both for an extensive amount of time and I can honestly say both sides are mostly immature, but the mature people on horde side seem nicer, not necessarily more mature. /shrug

I've never played alliance past level 2, but from the amount of times I've been ganked by alliance while questing on an alt I'd say they have a fair share of immature people. Still, Horde will always be known for Barrens chat.

I've played both sides pretty extensively, but my experience is still anecdotal. I can't comment on the relative maturity of the two factions, but I seem to run into more children playing Alliance and more adults playing Horde.
I know that in my Alliance guild the median age is somewhere around 19-21, and we're considered to be an older, more mature guild on our RP server.
In my Horde guild, the median age is around 27-30, and we're pretty average for a casual raiding guild on a PvE server.
That having been said, the maturity levels are about dead even between the two guilds, but that may be reflection of me and the people I choose to associate with as opposed to a reflection of the actual maturity levels between the two factions.

How is this even a question? The Alliance doesn't have "Elwynn Forrest Chat".
...really? people still tell Chuck Norris jokes, huh?
In fact, my realm is the home of DangerDave, a level 70 shadow priest who spends his days ganking lowbies in Darkshire and STV. Probably just when he's taking a break from working on his Doctorate.

Any claim that Horde are more mature went out the window when 2 million Blood Elves suddenly appeared.

i hate to be negeative but give me a break.
what good do you think starting this "discussion" up will possibly do? or how does this article inform us as WoW players?
later. I'm off to a new site that actually has content.

Horde.
Except for those Blood(y) Elves.

native: you've got to understand that while WOW may be big, there is only a finite amount of possible topics and this site has been around for enough time it has to recycle them every 18 months or so. Check the archives if you don't believe me

@5: No, the Alliance has tram-cybering and naked Night Elves dancing on mailboxes in Goldshire.
I mean, have you listened to Elwynn chat lately? It might as well be Barrens chat.

Well I'm on a PvP server, so to me, getting ganked multiple times daily some weeks makes me feel like alliance is really hurting for maturity.
But I'm sure horde side does it too, I just can't hear about it from the alliance.
And yes, horde does have 'Barren Chat' but... that's more of what's expected from those players now. I think 90% of people who participate in it are just having some fun. Think 'Gorehowl' from demonsoul.

how about this?
who cares
Mainstay Aug 15th 2007 8:33AM
Well, I've played both sides, quite a bit. Horde tends to be more friendly and more sociable, but I think the average maturity level is about the same.
Soroka Aug 15th 2007 8:38AM
Horde. Because at least we admit to having trolls. ;)

I can only go from experience on the two servers I've played on, and I had a much harder time on Alliance. Invariably on the Alliance side I'd be at the whims of players who aren't in control of their own lives. This made life a pain.
I'd also find if a PUG did happen to form, it rarely *ever* finished the instance for one reason or another - it was like people intended it to fail or expected it to fall apart before the end.
When on the Horde side you had the odd bad group, but you also had a great chance to be involved in a PUG that might as well have been a guild group as everyone was that professional.
As I say, only two servers though.

Getting ganked several times a day would indicate to me that Horde is most immature.
Oh, right, every hordie's saying the same thing about Alliance.
There is no winner here. Both factions lose.
marius.rubin Aug 15th 2007 10:48AM
I play alliance and horde about the same amount. I find that alliance spend more time ganking lowbies near instance entrances.

Soroka has my vote for Winner of This Thread :)
As mentioned, all responses here will be anecdotal and prove nothing. Unless some Blizzard employee hops on with a giant pile of statistics saying "Side X has 30% more naughty words in general chat when all servers are averaged together, but Side Y is 12% more likely to camp a gray player." Which, now that I think of it, would be pretty cool facts to know!
I play Horde on Firetree, where there are three or four entire guilds of Alliance who must really have no responsibilities - given all the free time they have to gank 62s and grossly outnumbered 70s between plastering their miserable toons with epics. For what it's worth (not much).

If you are seeking maturity, you are looking at the wrong place.
With a few exceptions, World of Warcraft is a "I'm a jerk" game. The exceptions, however, make it worth.
Just remember that even CMs and developers could use some maturity sometimes.
Just take a look at any Blizzcon photo gallery. See. Haha. Very mature people, huh?
Christian Stricker Aug 15th 2007 9:13AM
What a pointless article. "Yeah I know which one, I've spoken to each and every player of both sides on all realms, and my conclusion is x is more mature than x."
Keylight Aug 15th 2007 9:48AM
I would say both sides seem pretty even in game for maturity, however, reading our Ream (Dethecus) forums on the WoW website, there is no question that Horde is the most immature. Just check our forums or the constant trolling of our realm Wowwiki page.
