MMO Art expanding, artists wanted

Our good friends at MMO Art are growing, and if you're an artist that's interested in working on commissions of MMO characters, they might be looking for you. They're working on a site called MMO Art Studio, which will consist of a stable of artists selected by Jomaro Kindred (glad to hear he's back) to work professional commissions under the MMO Art banner.To submit, they're looking for a couple of examples of your work, sent in via the web form. We've linked to their gallery before, but you can see examples of exactly what they're looking for over there. And even if you aren't an artist, their work is worth a look, and they've got some new art up as well. Unfortunately, most of it is City of Heroes-- WoW is woefully underrepresented, which I guess means that WoW players aren't commissioning portraits that much.
But it's still great art, and the Studio site offers a pretty unique opportunity to get paid professionally for something you might already be doing for free.

The lack of WoW and prevalence of CoH/CoV artwork on sites like this is largely due to the fact that your characters in CoH/CoV are very much uniquely your's. There's just such a massive amount of customizations that can be done to your character that the combinations are virtually infinite.
By contrast, everyone in WoW looks largely the same. We all grind for and lust after the same gear which makes us look even more alike. Sure, you could commission a nice portrait of yourself, but you could also sell it to the other 50,000 people who look just like you do! :)

One of my first experiences in WoW was the 'huh' moment of running around in starting area with 6 other Tauren who looked JUST LIKE ME....
It was one of my major critiques at the time - WoW art was too standardized and too cartoony.
Now, I don't see it. I've been playing for almost three years. I now see games like guild wars and CoH/CoV as too 'anime'

Gill did a sketch drawing of my hunter for his 1yr anniversary contest. turned out sweet! the man has got some awesome skills!

They need to fix the gallery images, under Pricelist, as none of them work at the moment.
