Of collector's editions and unique pets
While we haven't received any confirmation that there will be a Wrath of the Lich King collector's edition, but since there was a collector's edition for both the original game and the first expansion, it's a reasonable guess to think Wrath of the Lich King will have one as well. And when it comes to collector's editions, over at WoW Insider, we ask the important questions: what will the unique, collector's edition pet be? Purchasers of the original collector's edition received their choice of a mini-Diablo, a Panda cub, or a Zergling, while purchasers of the Burning Crusade collectors edition received a Netherwhelp. So what companion will we have to keep us company as we venture through Northrend? If it's a Penguin I feel that alone would be worth the extra cost of a collector's edition box.
But what about you? Do you care about collector's editions or the novelties they include -- like unique pets?

The most important thing in the collector's edition is that game on dvd-rom so it's easier to install. The whelp and diablo just take up bank space.

If you can get one early on it may be worth it, depending on what other content there is (A full soundtrack etc.) for the pet alone, I'm happy with my Mechanical Squirrel.
If I remember correctly though, a lot of website had the BC Collectors addition going for THOUSANDS of dollars because it was in such huge demand.

Since The Burning Crusade is noticeably devoid of the beloved Murloc, I find it only fitting that Blizzard bring back MURKY! Give us a choice between Murky or a penguin.
The penguin idea is waaay cool...

A murloc baby dressed up as Arthas on a lil' baby undead horsey, and the murloc's white wig falls off from time to time.

I REALLY want a pet penguin. That would be sweet.
But the best part of the CE to me is the art book and making-of DVD. I'm still really disappointed that I was unable to procure a copy of the BC CE (due to lack of funds) so I hope I'll have cash to spare for the WLK CE when it comes out.

If they give us a penguin then I want a working World of Warcraft version for LINUX. Come on Blizzard, help us ditch Windows PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! http://www.linux.org/info/logos.html

I can't spend extra money on stuff like that. I just can't justify it to myself.
For the same reason, i won't be buying cards just for the hope of finding some in-game vanity item card. I have nobody to play with and no desire to do so anyway.
I'm probably willing to spend long hours doing complex tasks to obtain vanity items, but things that require luck or merchandise to obtain will never be mine. :(

My Netherwhelp has never been out since the first day I took a look at him. Boring.
The original CE panda, however, is still cool. I also like the miniature beholder from the recent Children's Week in Outland quests, because it has similar dozing off behavior. Peanut and Mr. Wiggles get a lot of comments as well.
I'd one of the skunks I've seen running around, espcially if it had an occasional "stinky" debuff (buff?) if you entered combat with it out, scaring it into spraying.

I kind of feel that the collector edition pet premise, goes hand-in-hand with the previous Wowinsider story, "Late to the Party."
I have played since weeks after the game was released, and I've never had a chance to get a special pet (I'd kill for a baby panda,) unless I spent a few hundred bucks on ebay. I tried to get collector's edition TBC (even thought the pet was weak) and missed out because the wow site was hosed, and it was sold out within an hour or two of being advertised on the wow main page..
I'm not really averse to having special pets not everyone can have, but half of the unique pets I never even knew existed till after the fact, or were for things which I'd literally need to be spamming the "buy" button hours ahead of time, and be extraordinarily lucky, to obtain.

Animated Hand and Arm. Like Thing, from Addams Family, only with a much creepier disposition.
Nelf druid has a sprite darter hatchling.
Draenei paladin has a talasite owl.
Human warrior has a crimson whelpling.
Gnome rogue has a mechanical squirrel.
Troll priest has a tree frog.
Belf mage has a mana wyrmling.
Orc warlock has a worg pup.
Tauren shaman has a brown rabbit.
I'd love to get my death knight something truly strange, and not necessarily "cute", but with character nonetheless.
Chances are there'll be a azure whelpling. Whoopee :/

I got the TBC collector's edition partially for the Netherwhelp (my favorite of the non-combat pets, yes even Murky) but more because I couldn't wait for TBC to finally come out, and I wanted to commemorate the occasion. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Wrath, but nowhere near as much as I was hoping for TBC.
If there's something I really want in that box and I happen to be able to snag one without going too far out of my way, I'd consider it, but I don't expect to be that interested.

I honestly do not like the little pets at all. Whenever I get one I vendor it right away. I also don't like it when I'm in an instance and someone has one out - they are just annoying to me. Regular hunter or warlock pets don't bother me except that one warlock pet who keeps slapping her ass over and over, that gets really old.

Ho My! I want a penguin :)
and yes, I love Albie (european baby murloc) and the netherwelp.
a little fun in a world of war :)
Stoneblade Aug 16th 2007 10:10PM
Personaly, I'd always hoped they'd eventually incorporate one or more of the following... a Puppy, one of those small, egg-stealing Dinosaurs,a Frilled Lizard,a Skeletal Dog, a Maggot, and, of course,
"Floppy," the Fish. :)

For those still looking, Fry's has stacks of TBC Collector's Editions for like $50.
Gimme ma Penguin!

I think a little pet Illidan that screams "you are not enough!" in a high-pitched helium-like voice would be rather awesome for the CE of the next expansion.
