I tend to use Flasks for first time encounters, as you know there are going to wipes for certain.

I'm a rogue, with alchemy/herbalism. So usually I make my own Flask of Relentless Assault. Persists through 2 hours even with death, as stated above. That fel lotus is hard to come by, but just from everyday farming since I hit outland I always have 20 in my bank. If you're not herbalism you'll either have to someone make the flask or buy one off the AH of course.

For regular farming of raid bosses I will use elixir of major agility exclusively as they're cheaper to make, and less of a risk of taking since farming means rarely ever wiping.
