As a prot warrior myself, I disagree with the "don't tell them your spec" comment. Thats the very first thing I tell them when I'm off-spec. They almost never ask me to stick around once they learn I'm arms/fury, even more rarely ask enough questions to figure out that I can tank heroics off-spec. Let the pug shoot themselves in the foot, just go do your thing.
