PTR VOIP on PPC is GTG
Just a note for you running WoW on the older Macs out there-- PowerPC Macs were the last to run WoW's built in voice chat system on the PTR, and as of build 7125 (the latest, I believe), voice chat now works. If you're running one of those fancy shmancy new MacBook Pros with the Intel processors, you don't care, and if you're running WoW in Windows, well I'm sorry (did I mention that I'm also writing for our blogosphere cousin TUAW now?). But for those of you running PowerPC Macs, feel free to load up the PTR and do some voice chatting.
Was the headline too confusing? "Public Test Realm Voice-over-Internet-Protocol on PowerPC is good to go."

LOL, Who cares? only about 5% of people who use computers are on the Mac platform. so TOPS thats 5% of the 9 million people playing. hmm seems this news article is catering to the minority. Thats 450,000Mac users to 8,550,000 PCs. That is 1 Macintosh for every 19 PCs. That is a lot of people reading this and saying: "So what?"
MrAwesome Aug 18th 2007 1:33PM
@Koll - that's not really how statistics work...at all, but i see your point

True, Mac holds a ~7% market share. But as someone who has been selling and working on computers (both Mac and PC) let me be the first to say that of the 93% share that PC's have ~30-35% of that are most likely business pc's and ~15-25% of what remains can't run WoW at all. Nix out the small % of macs that can't run WoW or are for business use and you could be looking at a possible 10% mac to 90% pc ratio that are even posiblity's to run WoW.
Sides, all this article is really hinting at is that the Voip is on one platform, time will only tell when we (LINUX USERS), other mac users, and you Pc users will see it.

And?
theres still more % of people that play on a mac than those that were able to get to nax,so is nax a waste too?
MrAwesome Aug 19th 2007 1:18AM
haha well the majority of players never see naxx, so yeah theres a pretty widespread belief that it was a waste. that goes back to the whole casual vs. hardcore content debate

Huh? Read the article again:
"...PowerPC Macs were the LAST to run WoW's built in voice chat system on the PTR..." (emphasis mine)
The article's not saying that VoIP only works on PowerPC Macs - it's saying that since VoIP now works on PowerPC Macs, all of the platforms that Blizzard actively supports can use VoIP through WoW.
Besides, if you're using Linux to play WoW, you should be able to write your own sound drivers and VoIP software, right? ;)

95% of all statistics are really only about 50% accurate.

@ 1: "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics."
Anyway, great news!! I just tried it out, and it works (almost) flawlessly.

I feel sorry for all you non-mac users you all seem so angry

@1:
Macs dominate the college world, and they have something like 35% U.S. notebook market share. Worldwide, they have a 15% install base.
Why do Windows users always desperately point out how small they think Mac market share is? Envy over the better hardware and software? Britney Spears also sells more CDs than Mozart. Enjoy Vista...

This Mac-PC argument needs to end. Don't make us bring out the trump card that is Maddox.
