Are you tired of reskinned items yet?

Reading this post from the general forums, I was reminded of my own experiences in trying to collect the reskinned version of Wrath for both my human and my tauren. Personally, I have always been among the minority that loved Wrath as a set for its looks... I mean, come on, that looks pretty badass on a tauren. While I personally enjoyed being able to go back and get the looks of a set I didn't manage to complete (damn you, Nefarian, why wouldn't you drop that breastplate) I can understand people wanting to get away from some sets... there are how many shoulders out there now that look like Dragonstalker, again?
What sets are you glad to see back? What sets should they have retired the graphics forever? (I know a lot of you will say Wrath. You're mean.) Would anyone want to see a high-end blue or purple level 70 reskin of Dreadnaught or Plagueheart? It does make me wonder what, exactly, they'll have the bosses in a re-tuned Naxxramas in the expansion.
Are you tired of the old skins or happy to see old friends?

Each time I see any of the Nightslayer set (especially those shoulders) I lose a bit more of my will to live.
Blizzard do need to stop using the Bloodfang helm, I've seen at least three lvl70 items using the same model (one from SMW, one from Maulgar, one from heroic badges).

I wouldn't mind seeing Naxx as separated into wings, being 5mannable and the old T3 sets dropping in there as a new blue dungeon set. All around some of those sets and items were the best designed so far in my opinion.

Naxx 2.0 needs to drop sets that look identical to the tier 3 sets but instead of being all dark and black, I'd really like to see some BRIGHT armor. Something white/blue/steel and shiny.
We're in the arctic north, I want some frost armor that actually looks like it's encased in cold.

One word: Arcanist.
I was so tired of seeing those damn shoulders before patch 2.1 changed a lot of their graphics.
Jewbacca Aug 20th 2007 10:36AM
I'd like to echo what #4 said: Arcanist. It's almost sadistic that Blizzard decided to skin the Shadowweave with Arcanist. I never could get Chromag to drop the T2 shoulders, and eventually grinded my way to the Grand Marshal shoulders just so I could stop staring at the pink and purple styrofoam.

There is far too many version of recolored Arcanist Set around. The developper must love it because there is 5 robe from lvl 61-70 that is a Blue Arcanist robe, and as much(or more) for the shoulders (Shoulders from Aran changed graphic from Blue Arcanist to Recolored Dungeon Set 3 Warlocks, I guess it is some kind of amelioration.)
I still wonder where I can find recycled T0,5 (Dungeon Set 2, even if they're not really great looking for most of them, I can take the risk over another blue Arcanist), recolored Dreadmist and recolored Felheart(I know there is the helm from Horde chainquest with Thrall at Nagrand) or even Plagueheart(I saw the helm for a chain quest, yet nothing else) on Outland! I liked these sets. I know they can't make unique models for every items of Outland, but there is an infinite pool of items from lvl 40-60 that Blizzard didn't even touch or recolor (Most of the T3 can be rarely seen even in Heroic items, but they already started to put Recolored T5 in SerpentShrine Cavern/BT/etc.)
There is a ton of green items from lvl 58-69 that are green but use models from level 20 items, I can understand the need to make green look less good looking then blue (some of the first blue you can find in instance are T2 recolored) but it's not changing at all over leveling (Lvl 70 green are still lvl 20 items. I guess Wrath of the Lich King Green items will use the palet of items lvl 30-40!
Reskinned items are not bad, but only use 3-4 recolored sets again and again is terribly boring. Recolored Faith for a change ? Dead to Arcanist set !

Bloodfang Hood reskins need to stop....now.
Cremean Aug 20th 2007 10:52AM
I'm tired of seeing the Shaman T2 helm OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.
CVJ Aug 20th 2007 11:01AM
What I think we are seeing is the result of the limitations of the graphics engine. WoW has a cartoony look and not a ton of detail pixel wise so skinning seems to be the extent of what they can do. Then they have to save the "original" looking armor for the tier sets.
Ghen Aug 20th 2007 11:20AM
Warlock tier 3 is one I'm glad doesn't exist anywhere. Thats quite possibly the ugliest (good) set in the game

Priest sets
T0, T0.5, T1, Whitemend + Primal Mooncloth
or
Devout, Virtuous, Prophecy, Whitemend Wisdom + Primal Mooncloth
or
Light Purple/Purple, pale Yellow/Yellow, Red/Grey, Purple/Grey
I've now had every one of those peices... and Every one of the bunny ears still clips my hair.
vlad Aug 20th 2007 1:09PM
for the price you pay and the t5-t6 quality of the primal mooncloth/whitemend sets they should actually be nicer looking than the chunky recolored t1 set. hell, even a recolored t2-t3 clone would be better.
but who cares, all classes look the same now anyway. not a whole lot of distinction anymore

Well, if you want disappointment, talk to WoW players.
Personally, I dig the reskins, and the potential for building sets that you don't need to raid for. My guild is full of people currently working on our Lookalikes. We've even followed the custom laid forth by "Envy" and "Typhoon", and started naming them.
I'm working on collecting blue Stormrage from Heroics now, and we've taken to calling it "Nighthaven". An alchemist frost mage is working on the violet Frostfire set to cover his Spellstrikes, and to match his fire mage peers, it's the "Spellfrost" set. And our guild rogue is in love with the yellow and black Nightslayer, and is 4/6 "Goldmember" now.
Of course our paladins are scrambling for purple Judgement, but the jury's out on what to call it. I'm voting "Penance", after the helm.
Urthona Aug 20th 2007 1:30PM
Obv, I mean Netherwind, and not Frostfire.

@8: Hear hear!
I'd definitely like to see recolorings of the Tier 3 sets, especially Earthshatter. It would look pretty cool with a green tint (like the fire in Shadowmoon) and only 3 or 4 people on each server ever got to see it the first time around.
Another one that's used too often is the Elements (shaman tier 0) helm: a wolf's head. It's all over the place. I saw a gnome with one on the other day. Looked like a frickin' shaman bobble-head doll.

I dislike reskinning. Sure, maybe a couple pieces, just for lol-sake. But right now, my hunter is 64, and still in t1 (damn you 5-piece BM buff!), which if anyone remembers the giant pillars of silver that the shoulders are, you now see slightly more gold versions on every shaman who wants to melee (which seems to be the VAST majority of them). Dragonstalker helm, that's been used how many times now? Even the ugly fish-looking shoulders are reused. Albeit, the casters do have more "reused" graphics than my two high level characters, but it'd still be nice to discover NEW graphics. Is one good thing about all of the EverQuest expansions. They'd introduce new skins for the new armor.
I'd love to see t3 skins again, though. As has been said, not many people got to collect the whole set.

Are the same glove graphic as Plagueheart, kind of funny to see them on a frost mage.

dreadnaught may have been the best looking armor in the game, if it wasn't for the lock tier 5 of course.
no idea why they didn't save that for bc.
Gazmik Fizzwidget Aug 20th 2007 8:16PM
I don't get why everyone's suddenly been complaining about recolored class-set graphics since BC went live. It used to be that almost anything that wasn't a class set -- even highly desirable raid gear -- used models/skins from the same pool as did random gray, white, and green gear all the way back to the starting zones: cheap-looking dinky round wooden shields, simple small shoulders, etc.
Isn't it an improvement that we're seeing some of the more distinctive and impressive looking armor designs get reused a couple times instead of the junky looking ones reused a bazillion times?
Fuzzgully Aug 21st 2007 3:40PM
This is one of WoW's failures imo. A huge part of any game is the customization and uniqueness of equipment and your character. It's not very cool or original to repaint old models. I can udnerstand greens, but I was severely dissappointed with alot of weapons like FeledgedB-axe/Frostbite (wicked model though). I wonder quite a bit what the problem is. Is it lack of creativity, or are they too busy to program tham all in? Because I sit and doodle pretty damn wicked swords and armor in school all day. I wish they'd hire me. :P Either way, I hope they jump on this in the future.
