Guildwatch: An honest mistake

To get your own guild news here (or share with us some juicy drama that you've heard about), send a tip to wowguildwatch@gmail.com-- every time you drop a tip to us, a level 40 gets their mount. To read this week's GW, click the link below.
DRAMA
- This week, on WoW High School... some dude asks some girl out (via in game chat-- ouch), gets refused, and everyone knows about it within seconds.
- The Flying Jackasses on Bonechewer just had a nice battle for control of the guild-- according to our anonymous tipster, Banattee and Cheyy had a nice argument over whether the guild should go more hardcore or stay casual, and Cheyy (the GM) won-- Banattee got banned. A few people left with him, including (we're told) all of the folks who could have run Karazhan. So now the guild really is casual.
- Here's the other side of the Shadow Command story from last week: apparently it wasn't just that those five people couldn't raid at the right time-- they also were belligerent towards the officer who went with them on the run, and our tipster says they probably should have just been /gkicked. Oh, and the part about them beating Shadow Command's progression? Apparently Shadow Command has already cleared Mag and Gruul, so that's just plain not true. The More You Know.
- One more about Shadow Command-- another tipster says they actually kicked one of the members for last week's Guildwatch, and those guys have now formed Negative Utopia (also on Thunderhorn-H, or Thorn as we like to call it), Something tells me you'll all be happier in separate guilds.
- This one's wacky: The End on Duskwood had a tank trying out with the guild, and things aren't going well-- he's cussing out the healers when he dies and generally being a jerk. On top of that, he has connection issues happening, so when he drops out in the middle of the Shade fight, the guild decides to kick him and get a Warlock in with them. Only when he logs back in, he's out of the group, but still in the instance somehow, and the Warlock can't get in until he leaves. While the group is headed to clean up the Maiden (who they'd left behind), this tank, named Methal by the way, starts breaking shackles on trash, and yells that he won't leave unless they take him to Nightbane so he can get the chest piece. Um, yeah. Eventually, they purposely wiped the raid (including Methal), and when the punk released, the Warlock ran in. Crazy.
- Everyone makes mistakes, you know? Andy (who plays a Rogue in DarkStorm on Al'Akir EU) did-- he was on a trial run with his guild through Tempest Keep, and they finally made it to Kael'thas. He, of course, was wide-eyed with amazement, having never been there before. And when the time came to loot, he was told to go get his quest item, the Vial of Eternity. Except he clicks the wrong thing-- and loots a Verdant Sphere instead. Things, as you might imagine, did not go well after that. Fortunately, it really was an honest mistake, and a GM ticket later, things got straightened out, and Andy is apparently still invited on the guild runs. Good times.
- Good idea: Have a roleplaying wedding. Bad idea: Have it on a PvP server... Even worse idea: ...in Stranglethorn Vale.
- Forum transfer drama! Azjol Nerub vs. Alexstrazsa.
- Clowns on Fire on Stormrage-A killed off Morogrim Tidewalker right before the downtime came down.. Grats!
- Ghost on Ner'zhul killed off Void Reaver. Nice jorb, as Coach Z would say.
- The Attuned on EU Earthen Ring have finished off Shade and Prince in Karazhan, and they want Netherspite to know that dragon steaks are needed for the BBQ next week. They're also trying to fill out a second raid group-- need all classes but Hunters and Warlocks.
- Tribe (who didn't share a server with us, but maybe they'll put it in the comments) downed both Mag and Kazzak this week after "spending months and months in Karazhan." That is a good feeling.
- Disputed on Norgannon-H went to Gruul's Lair for their first time, and not only dropped HKM, but got Gruul to 50% as well. Very niice, as Borat would say.
- WMC on Bronze Dragonflight EU killed The Lurker Below on their 5th and final try of the evening. That's always super fun.
- Dark Fist on Argent Dawn-A killed Magtheridon! My blood is my own! (as Mag would say)
- Hells Angus (server?) has dropped the Prince, and put Netherspite on notice.
- Thrall's Warlords and Extra Hordenary (winner of this week's Best Guild Name award!) on Uldaman-H have crushed the Curator. Shade of Aran is next.
- Valhalla on Stormreaver-H sent The Lurker back down Below. Apparently Morogrim heard about it, and he's already applied for a transfer to the Black Temple just to get away from them. No dice, Tidewalker-- you'll go down like the rest!
- Hostile Nation on Zuluhed-A dropped Netherspite and Nightbane. Woot! HKM's on notice, and all of his adds, too!
- Megaforce Squadron on Dragonmaw is recruiting for fun and good times. They're a super small guild (9 people at the moment), but if you're looking for a place to enjoy the game with good people, look up Gorkom.
- Totems of War on Medivh-H (who have a pretty sweet website) are seeking players of all classes to get a good Gruul's run together.
- Crude Crusaders on EU Aszune-H is looking for a Holy Paladin to help them out with Lady Vashj.
- Noble Force of Valhalla on Korialstrasz are seeking a couple DPS and Healers to help out in Karazhan-- they're already doing pretty well in there, but they could use some help, and they're willing to gear and key you up. What a deal!
- Hikari no Senshi on Lothar is looking for 6-7 players, including a tank and a Priest or Shadow Priest to fill out a 25 man group.
- Durandal (hey, Marathon fans!) on Dalaran is looking for a few good folks for Karazhan and beyond. See Ripshank in game.
- The Elitists on Alleria are recruiting all classes of dedicated players to help out with their 4 day a week raid schedule. So far they're past Void Reaver and working on SSC and TK.
- La Familia on Kilrogg-A has finished off Karazhan, and is looking for a few more to fill out a 25 man group. Leave the Rhok'delar-- take the cannoli.
- The Royal Knights on Bonechewer-A are recruiting Hunters and Mages.

That is some crazy drama. Gratz on all the downs and its good to see that a GM ticket can/will save some reputations from time to time.

"Fortunately, it really was an honest mistake, and a GM ticket later, things got straightened out, "
When a guildie accidentally looted my shoulders, we both submitted GM tickets to get that sorted and the GM repeatedly told me that they could do nothing about it. He linked to their page showing what they could do, and I quoted back at him where it said he could fix it. He ended up cutting the conversation short and left.
Glad it worked out better for these guys, but I wish that GMs were more consistent.
TotalBiscuit Aug 21st 2007 11:10PM
@3 Agreed, there's some wierd stuff as regards to that. I too had my shoulders accidently assigned to the wrong guy, after he thought they were the pants token and bid on them (I raid backup, so I don't have loot rights over full-time raiders). The GM sorted it out for us no problem at all, the shoulders were in my mailbox within hours.
Consistency would indeed be nice.
TB.

@3 Sounds like a mission for the Report GM Behavior email address.
@4 Hey it's TB! Go make a new episode of Titan, will you? Pure awesomeness.
Trollyboy Aug 22nd 2007 12:40AM
Yeah, happened in my guild the other night, two T4 pieces dropped on mag (as usual) and the rogue bid on the wrong one and won it.
There was a bit of ooooh hey waitaminnitwhathefuuu? from everyone when the lootmaster realised he'd just awarded the wrong T4.
Put in a ticket, talked to a GM, and got it sent to the right person =)

What? No reporting about ICFtB's recent guild drama with a certain "melee mage"?

Yeh,
got a WoW crash this weekend during the fight on the last boss in Mech.. Then *my* Shoulderpads of Assassination dropped.. Cause of the crash, I was either removed from the loot table and couldn't roll on it OR timed out on my roll.. So they went to a pally mate of mine.. Files a GM ticket and then accidentally filed another one..
Spoke to the GM for quite a while, but he couldn't help me.. Turned into quite a discussion, but there was absolutely nothing that could be done :(
Went offline for a bit and when I came back I found an ingame email from Blizz in my inbox: telling me to file a new ticket with specific info from the event and telling me to file it together with the recipient.. Did that, and about45 minutes later received another Blizz mail *with* my shoulders!
So consistnecy would be really nice, on the other hand: if you don't get your way, just file a new ticket ^^
Ps. Pureheart: thanks again for your help and being so honest!!

Yeah, I (mage) won high roll on my guilds very first purple drop in Kara. We had a Druid Tank from another guild along to teach us the fights, and he came in second on the roll. It was a ring with what seemed like insanely high +dmg. I was gonna be bad ass.
I waited to make sure everyone was in agreement on the rolls and grabbed my ring. Just afterwards someone bothered to read the whole description. It was insanely high +Nature Dmg. The druid tank hated me for weeks even tho I paid him off to the tune of 400g. We made up later tho, after we both ended up in a more experienced raiding guild.
The GM told me screw off tho. He said no bound item transfers were allowed at all, ever.
Morrigän Aug 22nd 2007 6:47AM
I wonder if that nice warrior from Kara will ever get into another guild...
yotix Aug 22nd 2007 7:38AM
Erm. How many guilds are there?
There's 8 mio WoW accounts, I guess 50% are in a guild.
4 mio players in guilds. How many? With an average of, say, 50 accounts per guild, that would make EIGHTY THOUSAND GUILDS.
... which, to me, means this column is somewhat pointless: It will always only manage to write about less than .01% of all the guilds around - and it will always only be of interest to a tiny portion of your readers, who'll most of the time be from those 79.950 guilds you've never heard from.
Chris Anthony Aug 22nd 2007 8:07AM
@12: Sorry, I'm a solipsist. Only one *real* person plays WoW, and that's me; and I like reading Guildwatch, so it's never going away.
(See - the rest of us can pull justifications for getting what we want out of our asses too. You don't have to read the posts you don't like, so how is it possibly a good use of your time to troll about them in the comments?)
Jibreille Aug 22nd 2007 9:03AM
@12 Maybe, but the juicy bits of drama are enjoyable by everyone, even if you don't know the guild involved, and it can always be a lesson/warning for our own guild...

What bloody servers are you all on that GMs actually fix honest loot mistakes. Because the GMs on Alleria-US NEVER EVER do that. Never. Ever.
This is the most frustrating thing about WoW - how the GMs on some servers actually believe in, you know, customer service. Yet others, such as on Alleria-US, do not.
RizziNUp Aug 22nd 2007 10:48AM
Venop here from Gorefiend-A.
In Karazhan, we downed Nightbane and the rogue chestpiece drops. Awesome for our awesome rogue Phyntos, but I made a true honest mistake.
See, there were two Phyn's in the raid. Phyndel (Gnome Mage) and Phyntos. Same number of letters, close enough, same first 4 letters, EVEN CLOSER!
Long story short, I gave it to Phyndel by accident, and like 6 of us reported GM tickets. All 6 GM's told us there was absolutely nothing they could do about it. I begged, pleaded, told them it as an honest looting mistake that happened because of the similarity of their names. All they told me was to make sure to double check the pop up confirmation.
From that day forth, I triple check all the popups, but it does get me upset that some people do get help from GM's, while they seem to waste their time and my time (which could have fixed the situation). Consistency would be great....
Digimath Aug 22nd 2007 11:15AM
Dude, you might want to get your info straight. Shadow Command has not cleared Karazhan and they haven't ever touched Gruul or Magtheridon. Just thought you might want to fix that or something since I had nothing better to do at work right now.
AndyF Aug 22nd 2007 11:19AM
Hey all,
It was indeed my epic failure :o
At the time, both myself and the player who was going to get the item made a GM ticket. On the way to Hyjal, mine changed to 'will be serviced shortly' and after a minute, the ticket notice disappeared .. meanwhile, the other player got his GM ticket answered, but was told that the player who made the mistake will need to resubmit a ticket, which I did.
This got answered during the trash waves of Hyjal, which was a fun moment to start a conversation. I explained how it was all my fault and not a master loot issue, and the GM said it will need to be escalated.
This got responded to about 15 minutes later from who I guess was a more senior GM. He confirmed some details, and then told me that re-issuing the item would use my one-time restore ability. Seeing as this was a bit of an important affair, I accepted, and after myself and the other played logged out and back in, the item had switched to him (he got it in the in-game mail).
So a big thanks to the EU GM's who sorted this out, I'm glad they could do something about it :)
