Kalgan on class balance in 2.2 and 2.3
There is a huge thread rolling on the forums that starts off with a reference to Tom "Kalgan" Chilton talking about PvP at BlizzCon. There, he said that Warlocks (and other classes) weren't necessarily balanced for 1v1 PvP-- instead, the classes are balanced for arenas (moreso 5v5 than 2v2 and 3v3, but those as well). This, of course, brought a chorus of anger from players-- considering that lots of World PvP is actually 1v1, why should any classes get a break that way?Kalgan, in return, basically says it's one or the other-- there is no way developers can get everything balanced all the way across the board, so they tend to balance as much as possible, which leaves some places where classes are more powerful than others. A little bit of OP, in other words, is acceptable, as long as the other classes have their place to shine as well. I found this to happen at BlizzCon as well-- when the designers explain their position to you, it seems completely reasonable. But when you go back in game, and a Warlock deathcoils you into oblivion, all the nonsense about balance and 1v1 vs. other situations goes right out the window, and you just want them to fix the game again.
At any rate, big changes are coming, says Kalgan, both in 2.2 and 2.3, in terms of class balance (specifically the DoT/Resilience change and the Mace spec nerf). As Boubouille says, it's looking more and more like 2.3 will be a "big" patch, with lots and lots of changes and revisions for each class in the works.

warlocks easily killed? I think you forgot about the amount of CC advantages warlocks have over melee classes, both affliction and demonology warlocks. Give a warlock 400 resi in top bracket arena 2v2 or 3v3 and its not even a contest.

@19, HERE HERE!!
I can generalize about my hunter taking clothies out in a flash, in fact I look for them in BG's (rogues too, nice challange most of the time). But, there are always going to be those who really know how to play their toon and rip you a new one no matter how well you play yours. No one is unstopable 100% of the time.
I hate it when I take out a Lock only to die seconds later because the dots are still sucking the life out of me! But hey, I know the risks when I target them in the first place.

"An interesting suggestion I saw on the wow forums a while ago was to give us plate armor and take away Fear. That would buff us against rogues, buff and nerf us against warriors, hunters and pally's, and nerf us against all the other classes. Of course, it's too radical a change, will never happen, but I would love to test that out on the PTR or something."
Can you say death knight?

I wonder why the myth still prevails that WoW is a PvE game with a PvP feature slapped on the side.
Look at the abilities. Most are totally focused around PvP. The beast within. Why would a hunter need immunity to movement impairing effects? It's obviously meant for PvP to help them kite. Unstable Affliction. I can't think of a raid boss that uses cleanse. Can anybody else? Obviously an ability made to counter pally cleanse spam. Water elemenal? Why would mages need a ranged frost nova for a boss fight? Shadow step. Who uses shadow step in a raid? Second Wind. What PvE warrior in their right mind would go 25+ points into the arms tree just to get second wind? Cyclone. What good is cyclone as a PvE CC? Obviously designed as a PvP CC. Why are half the servers PvP servers? Why are all the good servers also PvP servers? Why do 90% of class nerfs and buffs come from PvP balancing? Why do arena teams get invited to Blizzcon and raid guilds aren't? The list goes on.
This game has always between a 50/50 mixture of PvE and PvP.
