Reader UI of the Week: Justo
This week's Reader UI of the Week submission is from Justo, level 70 Dwarven Hunter from the guild <Lux Aeterna> on the Aerie Peak PVE server. As he told me in his note to me (short and sweet, but full of the important information) he likes to call this setup "controlled clutter" because he just likes to have lots of information on-screen at all times.
For those who are curious to see this UI in action, as well as Justo's listing of the mods he uses and what their different purposes are, check out the run-down he sent me after the jump!
While I love having lots of information myself, I have to admit, having that much on screen for me would probably be overload. There again, my main is a Rogue, so I don't have to juggle nearly as much as a good Hunter most likely does. (Between pets, traps, kiting, etc.) Of course, I have to admit, I'm digging the idea of the Bank Items mod, and may very well have to run off and check that one out for myself.
If you'd like to show off your UI, feel free to send it in with either a long description, or a short and sweet breakdown of mods and a quick note about you and why you designed your UI like you did. I look forward to hearing from you!

My UI is set up at a 1680x1050 resolution on a 20 inch wide-screen LCD Sceptre monitor. The theme for my UI is what I like to call "controlled clutter." I like simplicity, but at the same time I LOVE information and availability. This UI allows [me to have] everything I have hot keyed and/or clickable to be out in the open. [That way] It is available for quick use while still leaving plenty of screen room to see everything.
My list of add-ons
- AG Unitframes - Very nice looking unit frame add-on. I like its designability and I LOVE the 3-D portraits.
- Bongos2 - This allows for the movement and creation of all your bars. You can create pretty much as many bars as you want, in any length that you want. You can also scale the bars to make them as big or small as you want.
- Item rack - This mod lets you switch between gear sets with the click of whatever hot key you assign it.
- Fubar - Yeah, I have like 9 thousand plug-ins for Fubar so I'm not gonna name them all. Lots of little tidbits of information there.
- Tracker dial - As a hunter this mod is gold. Just mouse over the tracking icon on the mini-map and it shows everything you are capable of tracking. After you select something, it hides itself again.
- CT Raid Assist - I only use it for main tank windows in raids.
- Deadly Boss Mods - A really good boss mod, but I only use it for the BG timer bars that it has.
- Big Wigs Boss Mods - Yet another boss mods that I personally like better than Deadly. This is my main boss mod.
- Atlas/Atlasloot enhanced - This is an absolute no-brainer. Wanna know what boss drops what loot? Click and explore....
- CT Mod - Just an assortment of most of the mods CT offers on their main site. Too many to name.
- Omnicc - The best cool-down counter I have ever seen. It shows numerical cool-downs on any bar you have. When something cools down, it flashes brightly so you are sure to not miss it.
- Improved Error Frame - This mod shows any error messages you get in a clickable mini-map button instead of blowing up your screen in the middle of something important.
- Answering machine plus - When you go /afk this records any whispers and auction house messages you received.
- Auctioneer - I only use it for the tool tip pricing, but this allows you to post on the AH a little easier.
- Bank Items - This mod shows your bank and equipped items on any character you have on any realm, FROM any character on any realm. Ever been on an alt and someone asked if you had something they needed on your main? No more switching over to find out.
- Advanced Trade-skill Window - Allows you to customize what you can make with your professions. I have all mine alphabetized.
- Hunter range - Shows how far away from your target you are.
- Improved Buff Timers - Shows minutes and seconds on the blizzard default buff icons.
- KHunterTimers - Timer bars for everything hunter.
- Rating Buster - This mod compares stats and percentages form linked/viewed items with what you currently have equipped. VERY helpful in gear selection.
- Sct/Sctd - Scrolling combat text and scrolling combat text damage. Puts all damage and combat info above your head.
- KTM Threatmeter - Shows a bar graph of threat levels. No more "wtf Justo you pulled aggro, GAWD!" :)
- Meuhmeuh Feign Death Resist Bell - This mod plays an obnoxious bell sound when your FD gets resisted. Patch 2.0 broke it and the developer never fixed it, so i took it upon myself back then to fix it and post it up on Curse.

I've never really liked those mods that have everything cluttered in the server.

OMG Justo!!! LOL who woud have thought you'd be on here. This is Diz, i was in Infamous for awhile with you, I saw that you transferred not to long ago man, when Leviathan broke up. Nice UI btw, just though this was a HUGE coincidence.

I do wish you would highlight single addons instead of packs. Yes it is wonderful you have all these cool addons, most of which you highlighted before. Highlighting a specific addon has a great deal more value.

I've tried using aguf before, but I've always had problems so I just stick with x-perl, but I am wondering is there a pre-cursor that you have to have to use aguf or can I just DL the file itself?
Because I looked for some ace2 stuff but couldn't find the foundation for aguf.

@5 Wowinsider already has a topic for seperate addons.
The best part is that it's once a week. And addons are close to a couple of million.
I wish there was a site for addon reviews...
There is one for UI reviews (commented and judged by only one person... but still) but it still doesn't have seperate addons :/

I think your UI would be a lot less cluttered if you used UI scaling.
I mean, the screen is in a pretty big resolution, yet it feels like a 1024x768 screen because of no UI scaling IMO.

Have you tried Autobar for consumables? You can make it always stick out so you see everything you have.. But it automatically adds and deletes what you obtain/use so you don't have slots with 0's

Please stop using KTM and use Omen, your lack of multi-mob threat distinction disturbs me.

i would like to add some alternatives i found useful:
But first: the best Addon i use is the WUU - http://wuu.vagabonds.info/
WUU is a program to keep your mods updated with the most popular mod sites. You can search for new versions of all your addons and update them all with 1 click... No surfing 3 different modsites, manually download unpack and copy+paste them
all from files.wowace , i replaced the addons mentioned here with these:
agunitframes > pitbull (only for grp and arena, for all players in pve raid i use Grid
bongos2/3 > bartender
CT Raidassist > Ora2 for Maintankwindow
CTMod : try searching on ace for same function adds but better performance
BankItems : ArkInventory (like all ressourcehungry sometimes but as a warrior i can sort all items automatically how i define it AND look at my other characters items
KTM : Omen

This Add-on pack pack / UI is so 2006. I mean AGUF? Who uses this these days. I bet this guy spends like a day or two downloading all the addon updates.
Although the value of his add-on package is the bottom part that list all the hunter add-ons he uses.

Not sure what confuses me more, that he is using serpent sting instead of scorpid, or the fact that he has growl on autocast.
And it seems his MT doesn't have ktm.
Right.
jlkennedy Aug 21st 2007 9:02AM
Telling people to use omen is all fine and good, but many/most guilds still use KTM, and it's usually not an individual decision.
Aggr0 Aug 21st 2007 9:27AM
I like the UI. I like u it seems like to have everything i need or could use visable.
I would scale it all down a bit to give yourself more viewing room. and there are a few addons that can clean up some of the clutter and still allow everything available to click on. (autobar is a big one)
But hey if you like it cool...
its funny how people even here like to put people down cause they dont do it like they do it.

@12 "Not sure what confuses me more, that he is using serpent sting instead of scorpid, or the fact that he has growl on autocast.

everyone in that guild has ktm. Leo was starting a whirlwind which means basically a 100% agro dump with short burst of unavoidable agro gains from the raid. that guild also was big on personal DPS. they wanted me to put out damage, not tank avoidance. and yes, my pets grow WAS on autocast........so he could hold my demon still if/when one popped on me. he stands off to the side where leo cant WW him until i get a demon when i send him in on it.

i just picked up autobar so ill try that out, thanks. i have my ui scale the size it is because i just like everything able to be seen well. on my old computer i had the same UI, scale and everything, on a 17 inch monitor O_o. this is like 900 times the viewing space i had before lol.

@Dizeaze

> many/most guilds still use KTM, and it's usually not an individual decision.
Omen can publish to and receive from KTM. Unfortunately the publish to option isn't checked by default, but once you check it so that the KTM people get what they need from you, you can see their agragate threat like you had KTM, and you start wishing they had Omen installed so that you could get mob specific threat from them instead.
Basically Omen can function as a lightweight, less resource intensive KTM client but it also gets better the more people have it.

JUSTO, We miss you man, Holla when u get on, Collidus is ur boy, if u want i can help you build up ur alt, but yea its sad that Leviathan Broke up, now Infamous, Sunder, and Authority is Top Raiding.
Taeo Aug 21st 2007 5:20PM
I apologize for being negative but I wouldn't call it very controlled at all. UI elements are all over the screen.
