Turn crossrealm BGs back off?
Perhaps people are just feeling nostalgic, but last week people were asking for 40 man raids again, and now they're asking for non-crossrealm battlegrounds. Are you serious? Did you all even play before 1.12, when Blizzard gave us the ability to join up to battlegrounds that were populated with people from other servers? We're talking waits into the hours, and some Alliance never even got to play (then again, that part wasn't so bad). No, X-realm battlegrounds were a hit back then, and they still are great today.
Now maybe you're asking for a better way to play with people you know-- that's definitely a valid concern, and Blizzard is actually working on it: they all but confirmed guild vs. guild battlegrounds at BlizzCon. Building better and easier ways to play with your friends is always a good idea.
But limiting the battleground population again? Bad idea. I'm starting to agree with the commenters in the 40 man raid post: people just don't know what they want.

I can understand where these people are coming from. It was fun back in the day to be able to pick out all the skilled players in any given battle ground, to the point of people shouting "kill ____!". Single realm bg's just provided a much more tight knit community.
That said, these people also apparently haven't given thought to the disadvantages. Otherwise they would realize how incredibly moronic their request is :-P

My server's queue times actually went up after crossrealm battlegrounds were introduced.

Let me guess: people who love non-crossrealm battlegrounds all play on unbalanced servers where their side is in the minority.
Taeo Aug 21st 2007 5:37PM
Freehugs'(#1) would be a case that Coherent(#2) is referring to.
I also was in the minority on my server so my queues were nearly instant. However the Horde had queues of 30 mins to an hour for WSG/AB.

@#3 "Otherwise they would realize how incredibly moronic their request is :-P"
couldn't have said it better myself.

Hey, I've got an idea. Let's get rid of all the major improvements that Blizz has made to the game since it was released.
In fact, let's revert to a beta state. I want my Lightning Shock back.

6: I like it. If my Paladin had a combat rez I would be very happy.
These people jsut didn't play before cross server BGs. They've heard how "wonderful" it was, and now they want it. Someone probably said...
"Oh, those were the days. You and your pals could all get together and fight people you've seen on the battlefield, and just have a great time. Now you're forced to fight a bunch of strangers."
Or, we could tell them the reality...
"Single realm BGs sucked. Queue times could be HOURS. Sometimes you'd get in, and then the match would end for not enough players. If you were Ally on a Horde dominant server, you were screwed. Now queue times are only minutes, you fight a variety of people, and can see friends as well as new faces."
I remember the forum explosion when they were announced.... :D

Crossrealm = fighting against people with Black Temple weapons... boring
a good thing is the waiting time, but battleground pvp is so senseless and boring... only quantity matters in bgs now... this is annoying for anyone who loved the classic WoW...

This is a classic case of customer stupidity. Plain and simple, customers are notorious for not having a single bleeding clue about what they really want.
Yes, there are a few cases where folks with formerly short queues saw an increase. However, I'd bet on the other side of that realm, they went from queues in the 3-5 hour range drop into the 30 minute range. In blizzard's eyes, that's a huge improvement. Shoot, even I'd be fine with that, even if I saw higher queue times as a result.

I think anyone advocating going back to the 'one guild on the server dominates everything, good luck winning if you're not in that guild' game is moroinic at best, and a newbie who hasn't played them at worst. Or they were in that guild and now they're upset they have real competition.
x-realm makes it all a lot better and faster to get in some BG's. I think when they segregate PUG vs Guild BG's, that'll make for a good thing as well.
I'd like to see them open up the BG's to all realms at all times though, but I know that's probably technologically impossible.

One example
Since the crossrealms opening alterac valley is unplayable.
Overequipped players are rushing down to general. this is not pvp. players dont touch another, they riding as fast as possible.
Why the npc doesnt scale in armor or damage with the gear of the players?

"Crossrealm = fighting against people with Black Temple weapons... boring"
That's the problem. That is exactly where your thinking stops. "THIS BAD! ONLY WAY MAKE BETTER IS GO BACK!"
Follow through with your thinking, it's really not that hard. Do you really think the playing field will suddenly be perfectly balanced if crossrealm was turned off? Is that seriously what you think?

If it didn't affect BG wait time, I'd go back to single realm BGs. I liked being able to identify the people I played with and against, which is a lot harder in the era of x-realm BGs.
Still, I recognize the necessity/benefits of x-realming the BGs, even though I can't recall the queue waits being all that different than they are today.

All real PvPers would enjoy going back to before xserver, and we would like AV to be erased from existence.
DontLetsStart Aug 21st 2007 7:43PM
IMO they should do cross realm PvE instances as well as battlegrounds. Would help fix the problem of spending hours in LFG.

#8 & #12
i'd want to go up against players with better gear while i could...
maybe that's just me; seems the more i get myself handed to me in pvp, the better i become though...kind of like learning how to 'deal with the unexpected'?

"Do you really think the playing field will suddenly be perfectly balanced if crossrealm was turned off? Is that seriously what you think?"
I dont talk about a perfect balanced battleground. But if you compare only one serverside vs the other serverside it will be a better balance.
e.g. I am playing on a RP-PvP-Server. In our realmpool we have servers who have several BT/Mt Hyjal-raiding guilds. Our best raiding guilds are happy with slaying vashj and kaelthas.
PvP should be a fair competition. Is Crossrealm PvP fair when you are playing from a "weak" server?
Zghuk Aug 21st 2007 8:24PM
ps:
crossrealms would be cool if they had comparable selection of servers in a realmpool. But in Europe we have pvp, rp, pve, rp-pvp and younger and older realms wild mixed.
that's the problem!

People! You don't get it. There were NO BG'S AT ALL before the change over. You had to wait 3-5 hours to get into AV and then the game ended for not having enough players. This kept going until no one ever played... Seriously. Quit over-thinking. If you want them to adjust what server is in what battlegroup, that is a 100% valid complaint. Otherwise, you simply do not know what you are talking about.
CrpyTech Aug 21st 2007 10:05PM
Since I have to play during off peak hours I still have some wait issues. But I remember on a pve server people signing on opposite faction alt's to beg players to sign up for BGs. I know I don't want to see that again.
I'm horde on a pvp server now and AV is still my favorite BG. When Blizz brings the nerf bat to the afkers horde will own there also.
