Will Diablo 3 be announced at GC 2007?

GC is a kind of European E3/PAX that is located in Leipzig, Germany. It is a trade fair for the Video Game Industry as well as a hands-on exhibition for the game playing public. All of the major players will be there including Microsoft, EA, Nintendo, etc.
Today (August 22) at 10:30am Leipzig time, the day before the Games Conference opens to the general public, Blizzard is holding a press conference. The topic? "Presentation / Demo new games". Are they going to be giving new info about StarCraft II and Wrath of the Lich King? Probably. Are they going to finally announce the project that their third development team is working on? There is a lot of speculation that yes they are and it is Diablo III.
Right now, Diablo.com redirects to the Blizzard.com home page. Diablo3.eu was getting a forbidden error but is now directing to the UK Diablo II expansion site. Worldofwarcraft.com/wrath also was showing a forbidden error up to being announced at BlizzCon.
I'm pretty excited at the prospect as that was my biggest disappointment at BlizzCon. Do you think they will announce a new game at GC? If so, what do you think it will be? Or am I just being unrealistically optimistic yet again? I guess we'll find out soon.
Update: So far, nothing new has been announced at GC.

Diablo 3 is probably the only game that can make me stop playing WoW .. jeez Blizzard owns gamers these days.

I gotta say im hopeing for D3.. I was also a little disapointed that there wasent at least a teaser about the "Team 3" game at Blizzcon, so i hope its what they are going to announce this time.. even if it isent D3 im pretty sure im going to be excited to see what Blizz got cooking!

A Diablo 3 announcement at a German tradeshow would be a slap in the face to every Blizzard fan who traveled to Blizzcon just mere weeks ago.

I don't think Blizzard would announce such a great thing at GC instead of Blizzcon, still I don't mind if they do, because Diablo 3 would be great news no matter where they announce it :D

Hey, Europeans need love too, and seeing as how we are the best at WoW I don't see why we shouldn't get an exclusive too.
Hmm, WotLK, SC2 and possibly Diablo3, I'm going to have to quit my job.
Eztonic Aug 22nd 2007 3:55AM
@3: Americans got WOTLK at Blizzcon, and as there or more European WoW players then US players, and who pay even more to play WoW as well, it would be very nice of Blizzard to give us some love as well.

@5, "Europeans are the best at WoW"
That statement only proves one of two things;
either you're the most arrogant and assanine...
or
you have even more free time to waste than Americans.
I'm not sure which is harder to believe.

Understand the concept of a "tongue in cheek" comment?

Announcing D3 would be redundant because it would basically be WoW but with more blood. Sure, it's a good series, but you have to be realistic. They're just talking about the new games that they've announced, I doubt they would be adding on to the workload they have already. But here's hoping that it isn't Diablo.
Alegis Aug 22nd 2007 4:44AM
Nope. They'd have done this at Blizzcon.
Blizzard insider revealed you'd get to play SC II and WoW: Wrath of the Lich King.
Don't expect Diablo.

Well, the presse release is quite clear that the games to be demoed are Stracraft2 and WotLK.

Diablo 3 at Leipzig would be a brilliant thing to occur. Not only would it give a massive proportion of Blizzards fan base that were kicked in the teeth at BlizzCon something to cheer about but it would also give D2 fans faith that Blizzard aren't going to stick with WoW as their only staple RPG.
As far as I am concerned, it would be a disappointment and a possibly a mistake (corporate wise) for Blizzard not to reassure fans that Diablo 3 is on its way especially with the old D2 team working to take those fans from Blizzard.

Today (August 22) at 10:30am was like 3 hours ago.

Blizzard has registered new domain names :
http://www.diablo3.de/
http://www.diablo3.fr/
http://www.diablo3.es/
http://www.diablo3.com.au/
Oh and it has been WAY over 3hours, it is 4pm +3GMT so like over 3 hours have gone by at least!! :) But I am sure that Blizz just wanted to make sure that the game was ready before announcing it. Information should be flooding soon, check the EU sites!!

@16, "Good at raiding""Good at WoW".
"Good at raiding"="Good at EverQuest".
Omnimax Aug 22nd 2007 9:05AM
Hmmm, it didn't take my "not equal" sign between "good at raiding" and "good at WoW", thus rendering the comment opaque at best.
Doug DeJulio Aug 22nd 2007 11:06AM
D3 would not be "WoW with more blood".
What are some deep, fundamental features of Diablo that WoW lacks?
1) No class is required for anything at all. If you and all your buddies like playing Assassins, you can have an all-Assassin party with no downside. Pick a character because you LIKE that character, not for balance or because it's required or anything.
2) All content scales to any permitted number of players. They're built and tuned for single-player, but their numbers ratchet up to match however many people you bring. No fixed group sizes at all. Play with people because you LIKE to play with them, and play with any number of people you WANT to, up to the group cap.
That is a deep and fundamental difference between Diablo and many MMOs. If they can bring *some* MMO-like features to the Diablo franchise without compromising those two basic things, they may have the casual gamer's dream.
And if there's some plan where *I* can subscribe to both for, say, $23 a month, instead of each at $15, I Will Be There.
