Breakfast Topic: What do you want your character to look like?
You're likely already aware that one of the great new features to be unveiled in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion is the ability to change your character's hairstyle. A number of players (including myself) have actually stopped playing certain characters just because our original appearance choices didn't turn out as good in play as they seemed in the character creation screen. Some (including myself) have spent a long time thinking about what a new character should look like and trying out many variations, playing for a bit, deleting them and trying again until you get something you know you can live with for the rest of your character's life.Soon, however, our characers' hairspray will no longer be stone-stiff, and a new era of creative exploration will open up to Azerothians. Existing characters with ugly hair may get a second chance at coolness -- but as many already satisfied players know, your characters' good looks often come from a desire to make them fit, as closely as possible, some image we already have in our mind.
So tell us of your dream for your character, how you envision him or her when you close your eyes. Do you want your Death Knight to look like Darth Vader, or -- heaven forbid -- Chuck Norris? If you like, you could link to a picture you like, or even draw your creative vision for us!
My own most vivid character visualization was for a night elf rogue I had in mind. I wanted her to have the look of an angel who used to live among the stars in the sky, but had somehow gotten lost on earth and forgotten her way home. In hindsight, I was probably very inspired by my favorite Neil Gaiman novel, Stardust, in which a star actually does fall to the earth... and breaks her leg.

the default body of characters are fine, nice and all.
but my real wish would be the possibility to change height, weight and body feature of the character, to have diversity.
a thin warlock, a hunchback warrior, a tiny fat shy mage and so on.
I understand it's a huge and complex work and tremendous for artists and developpers with all cloths, swords, shields and so on and the animation which need to be fine whatever the choices of the player.
but it's my real wish :)

I want mine to look like Chuck Norris.

My rogue looks like me IRL (at least, his face does) so I probably wouldn't change too much.
Heraclea Aug 23rd 2007 10:05AM
Heraclea should be buffer, and have wider shoulders than the default human female. Actually, a version of the orc female body type, with human features and hair, and better posture, would be ideal for her.
I hope they add a couple of hairstyles when this feature goes live also.

They really should include more options then just changing hair.
I would like to see dwarves get a tattoo option to look like the Wildhammer dwarves. That is all I want for my main.
In general, I would like to see eye color be a choice (and separate from facial selection). Piercings for all races and genders would be a nice option. Some sort of weight and height adjustments would be nice as well.

Wow I HAVE to agree with #25. A tattoo option would make our characters alot more unique. Think of it, each race has their own 'style' of tattoos, much like different nationality irl. My orc warrior would look like some middle aged UFC fighter =D

I agree - nothing should block tabard. I hate it SO much when I try on some cool tabard on my warlock and it looks like he cut the lower part of it, because there just isn't a way he could stick it somewhere to his robe >_>
And second thing I really dislike is having my head shaved when wearing certain helmets. It looks gay. Very.

I'm pleased with my looks. Maybe I'd bring up the changes just to see what they'd look like with different hair, but I'm happy with the look.
Though I REALLY hope this will encourage people who made "cute" pink and green haired gnomes to rethink their choices.

It would certainly help if human males looked less constipated...

I would like it if WoW had the same character builder as CoH/CoV. Height, weight, build, etc. Could be too much for the engine, bt it would be nice to create a toon that really does look different. There are too few cookie cutter options, and the best looking ones have been done to death.

There must be a lot of people out there that hide their helm graphics to be wanting hairstyles to be a feature of change.

Darth Vader Death Knights would be cool.
Of course if I get one, I want an especially unique mount.

Agree. #29! I'd love to see that sort of diversity in WoW.

Hopefully, Blizz will see it clear to give gnomes, with the "no beard or moustache" option, SOME... FREAKIN'... EYEBROWS... >_

I'm happy to have the hair color/style changes - for my first human toon I picked hair that looked good from the front, never realizing how much I'd grow to hate the "little old lady bun" from the back.
what I WOULD love to see, though, are:
1. a "face close up" on the character creation screen (either that, or some numeric reference that lets you know which "face" you have selected since so many can look so alike) ... then i wouldn't wind up deleting and redoing.
2. And - very wishful thinking - but can we get rid of the "heaving bosom" (aka, "I just ran up 30 flights of stairs") effect on Drae and BE males? It really doesn't make them look more realistic or manly: it mostly makes them look as though they should be peering through a knothole into the girls locker room.
